I am Japanese. Many Japanese people do not assert themselves and take a public stance. Many people do not make critical comments in public. That's not the person's true feelings. These are both strengths and weaknesses of the Japanese people. In the video,Some of these people may not have expressed their true feelings.
The guys of the "Samurai Spirit" did, right? Good on them for their honesty. Really appreciated it. Also, Mr Sho. Very much on point. Thank you for your comment.
@user-ef6ur7wi1u: I've heard recent criticism about her in Japan. Are the critics predominantly older and middle-aged individuals? Particularly, do the elderly not like change?
@amisvega9756 yes. they are honest. That is the true opinion of most Japanese people. When it comes to issues related to racial discrimination, people tend to take a public stance without expressing their true feelings.

It’s quite telling how those interviewed were “okay” with a European born, Ukrainian with “bright, clear” skin, but hafu Japanese often catch hell, are ostracized, and criticized for their looks. Having lived in Japan 🇯🇵, I know the face people present in public, often isn’t the same one you see in private. I think that was true in these interviews.
@@matangox She is now, but she mentioned in interviews as well as other half Japanese, the difficulties she faced growing up. Even now, there are still some who see her as a gaijin.
I think everybody is missing the point. Mr. Sho is right. This competition is only about the LOOKS and nothing else, so if you have to represent an X country to a beauty competition, then you should come from the specific X country for example if you want to represent Japan as Miss queen or whatever then you should be japanese because you are promoting the japanese looks to the world.
You contradict yourself, if it's about looks then nationality and having ethnic blood is irrelevant, as you said its about looks. If it really is just about looks or how attractive someone is, than it should be awarded to the most attractive person living in the country, regardless of their race or genetics. Make up your mind and stick to one thing, its really simple.
@@caldale4941that aspect is usually skewed. Most Japanese people find a more European look more attractive than their own. Which is fine, but can become self demoralizing. It’s almost like most of them despise “looking” Japanese. I can’t blame them though. The European “look” was and still is seen as the most beautiful appearance around the world.
This girl said she felt totally Japanese because she was raised in Japan. I saw her on the Japanese news when she won the title. Interestingly, her Japanese father was not even mentioned. She gave her interview with her Ukrainian mother and Ukrainian grandmother present. They showed her child photos where she wore Ukrainian costume, not a kimono. They put an emphasis on her family spreading Ukraininan culture in Nagoya, and it was shown as something really good by the Japanese media. It a perfect story for a beauty peageant - "Japanese in heart, not by race", but it kinda didn't really work out this time...
@@travis1271 beauty paegeants are basically about that, so that's the part where I don't really care. Other contestants might have also had administrative resources, but we don't know for sure :)
Quick update on her. She was exposed for having an affair with the doctor who is married and have children. At first she denied the accusation but eventually gave up her title and disappeared from spotlight.
@@tora201jp yeah, so of course she was going to win. Honestly, it's just disgusting. I saw the pageant all the other girls they're definitely outshined her.
@@tora201jp And also worth mentioning the fact that she already had a personal dealing with so-called “talent agent” before entering the pageant. We would assume that the agent had a shady business with pageant and the whole thing was rigged! She was going to enjoy the media exposure after winning the title but she was exposed. Miss Japan was about to get political, because talk about the coincidence! Naturalized Japanese born Ukrainian winning Miss Japan is nothing but political!
Exactly this was purely political. Reminds me of those little towns all over the place that have their main streets adorned with Ukrainian flags and signs saying: wishing for peace in Ukraine. Well I went with some Russian exchange students to one of those towns and they were pretty shocked to be honest. And Japanese universities promoting internationalisation by giving full scholarships to Ukrainian blue eye and high nose students while cutting ties with Russian universities half way through their programs. All disgusting.
Shouldn't the pageant organizer to be blame? Like why they don't put up a requirement for the participants to be full Japanese or half-Japanese not just Japanese nationality.
The word blame (more than) implies that that there is something for someone to be blamed for. There is not. It is their pageant. What they “should do” is have whatever rules they want. If anyone wants a pageant that only accepts people of ethnic Japanese ancestry, they should organize their own.
@@ксю-ю3ж8е As far as European beauty standards go, I (as a European) would say she is merely cute. Also, she explicitly has thought about the consequences. As a foreign born Japanese citizen, raised in Japan from a very early age by a Ukrainian mother and a Japanese stepfather, she feels completely Japanese, and wanted to help change the common perception of what it means to be Japanese. She did not go into this blindly. S for blame, there is no blame, because nobody did anything wrong. The organizers did nothing wrong in setting the rules for entry, and she did nothing wrong by entering the contest. Nor did the judges do anything wrong in choosing her as the winner. Credit might be more apt than blame. It isn’t exactly Rosa Parks refusing to give up her seat in the front of the bus (google it if you don’t know the reference), but giving her a chance to compete and win is a tiny step in the right direction. As for her actually winning, unless shown convincing evidence otherwise, I will simply assume that among the finalists, she was the candidate who best met THEIR criteria for Miss Nippon.
There is a difference between being ETHNICALLY Japanese, and citizenship/appreciation. This is a beauty contest. The competitors are representing their countries and the beauty of the women there.
So if you’re African immigrant who obtained the nationality of a white country you will physically representing the country and the standarts of this peoples ?
I thought the point of Beauty Pageants is to advertise the ethnic beauty from those specific regions. Seeing as she's Ukranian, she represents Ukranian beauty, not Japanese. This is a visual competition. Of course Knowledge and History of the culture matters but this is to advertise Humans from their natural regions. This is not a time for "diversity" arguments.
No it's not. All citizens regardless of ethnicity can participate in national beauty pageants. Miss South Africa could be white ethnically or Miss UK could be Japanese ethnically.
You are right in that it is meant to represent the beauty of a certain nation, but wrong in that it has to represent an ethnic/racial group. Japan may once not long ago have been basically a homogenous nation, but it no longer is, so it is perfectly appropriate for their beauty contestant to represent that change. Human have no static and unchanging natural regions. If that were the case only Ainu women would represent Japan in these pageants.
Ok but the Ainu people are a whole culture of people in Japan. This is literally just a Ukranian woman whose ethnic group has a whole country called Ukraine. You're comparing one woman to a whole group.
The funny thing is, by Ukrainian standards, she is not pretty. Very average in fact. The beauty standart here is very different from Japan, obviously. (I am from Kharkiv, Ukraine)
The point isn’t a matter of how Japanese she is or how she grew up. The issue is a matter of how a woman who’s genetically white is supposed to be representing beauty of people who are genetically Japanese, and it’s not fair to Japanese women because they can’t be white and they lose the representation that they deserve just as much as any other woman from any other race, ethnicity, or culture. I’m not a woman, but I feel like having a white woman be the symbol of beauty for girls in Japan would be so unhealthy for little girls and make them wonder why something always looks off or “ugly” about themselves when they look in the mirror. Edit: If she were half Japanese, then it would be different because it will still represent a diversity in Japan. People who are half Japanese (yes, half black or brown skin/japanese too) are still Japanese and should be accepted as part of the country too. There may not be much diversity in Japan, but as long as they have Japanese blood in them, they should be accepted as part of the diversity even if it’s a very small minority of people.
I will respectfully disagree with you. In Japan, which is not an ethnically diverse country. She, a non-ethnic Japanese citizen would be considered a minority. Therefore, it seems by that logic, as it might be inferred from your comment, that only people of the majority race should be allowed to represent the country. Which I am sure that you would not agree with, as that would be discrimination openly and proudly. To say that an immigrant should not be allowed to represent or even compete with a fair change to represent the country, simple because they're not of the ethnic majority, is plainly wrong. Think of a Japanese woman not being allowed in a US beauty pageant because she is not of the ethnic majority. Or an indigenous person not being allowed because they are not of the majority, and do not share blood with majority. Does that not sound wrong to you? Does that not sound like something out of the 1950's, or the 1900's? These days, the world for the most part of not as ethnically homogeneous as Japan is. In demographic terms, non-ethnic Japanese citizens account for roughly 2.5% of the population. Those of European descent account for less 0.05% of the Japanese population. This would not be a huge issue I am sure if had she not been born in Ukraine, and ethnically Ukrainian. Regardless of the actions that she has taken that should not and do not represent Japan. As a Japanese citizen, and as a person who is was raised in Japan since she was 5 and raised by a Ukrainian mother and a Japanese Step-father. How is she not Japanese? Could we apply these sort of rules in Europe? In Australia? In The United States? There are people who have lived in Japan for generations, but because they don't look 'Japanese' are always looked upon as foreigners, and treated as such. 'Upon receiving the title, she had said in her speech: "I had not been accepted as Japanese many times, but I am filled with gratitude to have been recognized as Japanese today."' (Source BBC)
That guy is 100% correct, this competition is about LOOKS, what kind of representation of your nation would be if the person representing Japanese LOOKS is not Japanese and has no blood affiliation with the nation it represents. This is just wrong and beyond ridiculous.
yeah, bro.. I don't follow this pageantry stuff. But I'm pretty sure for the past few years in Western Europe a lot of non native women won the contests. And if we look at "national sports teams" you will find they're also comprised out of different peoples In my opinion, these beauty competitions should be representing the prettiest women from that country/ethnicity/culture. But they've seem to have stopped doing that a long time ago. Today obese trans women win these beauty contests. I'm pretty sure the latest Miss Netherlands is a trans woman (and not a good looking one either). And there is also the problem that countries are becoming increasingly diverse. Are we just going to ban people from competing that aren't full blood native? What about countries like America where there really isn't a "native" people other than the small amount of native Americans left? Should the Americans allow for only white? Or black and white? What if the black lady is from Africa? What if the white lady is a refugee from Ukraine? What about Latin Americans? What if she's Mexican but born and raised in the USA and her family has lived there for 3 generations? Some white girl recently won miss in some African country and African Americans were furious lol. But she's from that country. Should she be banned from competing? To me it's far more important that they actually try to pick the most attractive women they can find. Than have it be based on ethnicity etc. The problem more so than this is that they tend to intentionally pick women that aren't attractive .. or aren't women at all
I'm from the Netherlands and a dark skin Trans person won our Miss Netherlands competition. So you Japanese people got kinda lucky compared to us. Traditional Dutch women are tall with blonde hair and blue eyes, just for reference.
Yeah, I didn’t think she was that pretty either. She really isn’t pretty compared to the western beauty standard. I was surprised many in the video commented how pretty she was. I think Asians don’t see enough westerners to really know what really pretty is. I’m Asian but live in the states so my view will be different from those Asians that live in Asia all their lives.

I think there is a difference between 'Being Japanese (nationality)' and 'Being Japanese (racially)'. As a foreigner, i agree with a National beauty contest being for racial Japanese and not nation Japanse.
It's not like there is only one ethnicity in Japan though. What of the Ainu? Would they not be allowed due to being an extreme minority? Would it be changed based on the percentage of the main Japanese ethnic group dna someone has? To what percent?
@@ShohTann the question is posed to eventually ask what of the person born of naturalized parents, who only know japan, and Japanese? This is also japan who didn't consider people born in japan to japanese mothers as japanese in relatively recent history. Of course I am using my own morals but at least mine are under 4k km away.
@@aaronmontgomery2055 Yeah race shouldnt be an issue except this is beauty pageant where they judge and rank the physical attributes. I have nothing against her or anyone winning it, I’m actually all for it (except having an affair part).. But I totally understand why this became a topic in Japan. This is just my opinion as a Hafu who grew up in Japan for 18 years.
@@ShohTann did they not agree that she was beautiful? I get the controversy, I just think the original comment and reasoning of the controversy is stupid. Even if you are fully thai, japanese, or scottish you can be vietnamese. Over 85% are kinh and yet we accept everyone. I'm white, from the UK. If a non-white woman won Miss UK (or whatever it's called) I personally wouldn't see a problem, because the UK has such a diverse population (and that's how it was since I was little). I personally see it totally differently for Asian countries like Japan, where the population is much more homogenised. I think Miss Japan should look Japanese. I also, however, agree that these contests are ridiculous and should be phased out.

The UK is historically a White European Indigenous nation, of Germanic and Celtic mix, it's not racially Black and never has been up until very recently with the UK and EU allowing mass waves of immigration, and much of that being illegal. My thing is that she has lived here almost her whole life, she had to have known that entering and winning the contest would be controversial. With that being a major point, I don't understand why she did not keep her personal life as clean as possible in the event people would disagree with the decision.
It's not even the fact that a white woman won a beauty contest, it's that she wasn't even aesthetically beautiful to begin with. Which makes her win even more fishy
I think the point of miss whatever is to pick not just a beautiful person, but also someone that represents a country. Can the Japanese public see themselves represented in a white Ukrainian immigrant who holds Japanese citizenship? Probably not. Is that right or wrong? Each person can decide for himself
Well, only 13.6% of the US would be represented by someone that's black, but I'm quite sure that only a small amount of Americans would actually be upset about a black Miss America.
This is more politically motivated. USA cant accept nowadays asian culture like Kpop and Kdrama accepted internationally. You must be saying but this is Japanese right? it doesnt matter korea, china or japan. It's all about perception to them. To them, Asian is Asian. Like how they used to portrays asian as weak and emotionless in hollywood movies in the past. They can't anymore. This is their way to influence. Japan as we know it easily pushed by USA.
@pyrylehtonen-caponigro3198 America is not a homogeneous country like Japan, so this comparison doesn't make sense. America has been multi ethnic since its conception. Black Americans have been in America for hundreds of years and are a direct influence on most American culture. A Ukrainian born woman who has been primarily brought up in Japan has every right to claim to be japanese but in the concept of a beauty pagent that's meant to display the best of your people, it makes sense that there Is contention over whether she should get the title. Imagine a Japanese born person raised in Kenya, taking the title of miss Kenya, most would see it as a misrepresentation of the country although that person has the right to claim to be Kenyan. But only in culture not ethnicity (obviously)

I'm no oil painting but would the winner be seen as conventionally beautiful in the west? I dont think she would even be entered into a miss USA, UK, Ukraine, France etc competion. She looks regularly pleasant looking. Is this in some way related to south east Asian admiration for white/light as possible skin?
@md247md You are correct, I’m American, and over here she would just be considered “average”. Not ugly, but not super pretty either. So she would be a “5 out of 10”. To answer your question, Yes, i think it has to do with the “white-worshipping” that exist in so many asian countries.
Ok, alot of japanese are pretty fair skinned naturally themselves. What does this have to do with white worshipping? Having tan skin, for many centuries has been associated with working in the fields etc. Having pale skin meant you had status & didnt have to do that kind of labor. Cultures obsessions with something, doesnt always stem from what many people think nowadays. East asians at one point were considered white by west europe, whereas eastern Europeans (like her) werent. Definitions & narratives always change.
@littlefootnanak7178 Yes, I am fully aware of the historical class structures of Asian cultures. Once upon a time, the ruling class was fair skin, so everyone wanted to be copy that. Yes, that’s the origins. But in Modern Times, because of european colonialism and imperialism, many Asian people value european features over their own. They idealize european skin, face shape, nose shape, hair and eye colors. This puts white people on a pedestal, which in terms is “white-worshipping” Just like the japanese ladies in the video said, they believe white people have been on the “top” for so long, that everyone is jealous of them and idealize their physical features.

But I can't recognize those who don't have any connection with Japanese ancestors as Japanese because Japan adopt principle of paternal blood not like birthright citizenship. For conservative perspective, we have a long history and be taught legacy from ancestors like good things and bad things. How could I see them relating to us even though those who doesn't have connection with it.
Being raised or even born in Japan doesn't mean much if you are not grown in the influence of Japan's culture and values. She might have been raised in Japan but she was raised by her Ukranian parents, no? There is a lot of influence from her family. Just like in the US. There is a lot of immigrants that come and even though they adapt to America's values and culture, many immigrant families influence their children to hold onto their heritage and homeland's culture. That's why I don't think she should have gotten the title. There must have been better suited women for this.
If you’re born and raised in a certain country you are culturally THAT country. You went through school there, you speak the language fluently, you know the customs and traditions, you speak the way they speak, you have their mannerisms etc. Maybe not racially, but you are culturally tied to that country. The country will really influence you.
I find so funny how foreigners are overreacting to this. I live in Japan and nobody really cared about her win. Like nobody cared about the win of two half Japanese in past editions of this pageant. I think that most of the Japanese citizens don't even care about the pageant itself. The only people who are shocked and saying that her win is "controversial" are foreigners and the foreign press. Japan is seen from all the world as a racist, xenophobic and extremely conservative country but in reality most of the Japanese don't care about a person that doesn't have "Japanese blood" wins a "Miss Japan" pageant.
I love how the two young guys changed their answer after hearing a quote someone else said online. With Japanese people, it's hard to find out what they really think at first. They tend to answer what they think others would like to hear. Good on the interviewer for drawing out their true thoughts.
The thing is though "Japanese" isn't really a race, with the overwhelming majority of Japanese people actually being of Chinese and Korean ancestry. There are native indigenous native cultures with distinct genetic profiles but most of these people are not deemed attractive by mainstream beauty standards. One of my classmates was of Ainu heritage and she had the classic thick wavy hair, darker skin, freckled skin and stockier curvy build of a young Ainu woman but none of these traits of hers are considered beautiful in Japan. The Japanese people go on about race but while most of them accept the indigenous heritage people's, none of these aboriginal peoples would ever be selected for a "Miss Japan" beauty contest.
Considering that Japan is a homogeneous country and considering that Japanese people have very characteristic features, I agree that the girl representing Japan should look Japanese. I'm Brazilian "hafu", my paternal grandparents were Japanese. And I think how important it would be for Japanese girls to have an Asian beauty reference.
It is interesting because I don't think most people in the US would look at that picture and say wow she is beautiful. She is certainly not ugly but I just think the reaction would be different.
Last time you guys interviewed about the half-japanese/black winner. Most people were okay with it because she is half and important thing, she grew up in Japan and has Japanese values thus she was a representative of the culture even is she looked mixed. But naturalized is tricky.....
It was fascinating to see how some older folks accepted it as part of globalization compared to younger people. There is a point to be made about the competition itself. If it is based on looks, then shouldn't the winner look Japanese? This was an interesting perspective that does make some sense.
It's hard to answer this, as a US American, cuz it's hard for me to answer objectively based on my culture. US Americans are varied and don't really have a set appearance per say. Culturally speaking, by saying that "it doesn't matter where you're born from, it's what the inside that counts", it's actually kind of an American thing to say 😂
East Asian countries are known for having a population predominantly of their respective countries. They all have at least 90% married within their ethnicity. That's what's making all of this weird. Representing an East Asian country without East Asian genes, makes no sense.
Selecting a white woman as Miss Japan is absurd and she should be embarrassed that she even had the gall to participate in the first place. The ego on that one must have been enormous.
I remember Ariana Miyamoto(Representative from Japan of Miss Universe 2015. Her father is black American). It wasn’t controversial as much as Karolina(Miss Japan this year)’s win. Very few Japanese people opposed her win but foreigners and foreign media said that many of us did. My American acquaintance also said that Karolina’s win came from Japanese white worship. He said Japanese criticism against Ariana’s win came from that Japanese people don’t like black people. I objected it. He doesn’t look at Japanese people criticize Karolina’s win, but her win itself. And he doesn’t at Ariana’s win but does Japanese people criticize her. I said that Ariana’s win wasn’t controversial as Karolina’s and many more Japanese people criticize Karolina’s win than people did Ariana’s win, but he disagreed with me. Even now, his Japanese isn’t good…How can he tell many of us did? I think one of reasons why many more Japanese people criticize Karolina’s win than people did Ariana’s is Ariana is half Japanese. Another reason is…sorry to be rude but most Japanese people seem to think that Ariana is prettier than Karolina. There were other Japanese people when we talked about it. All of them knew about Karolina but didn’t remember Ariana. They checked Ariana and said 〝Wow, she is very pretty!〟. He looked dissatisfied…Why do many Westerners look for 〝look up to white point〟and 〝look down on black point〟from us❓ Almost all of us didn’t get Japanese nationality from our own will but Karolina did. Ariana chose Japanese nationality after her win(She was too young to do when she was crowned). No matter what their race is, I consider all people with Japanese nationality true Japanese.
True. That's the first i thought when i heard miss japan was not japanese, i compared her to Ariana. Ariana is half japanese though, and even if it was shocking at the time, people in general accepted because she's a darker japanese. Now, this case is completely different. You can't come to a country and push down every women dreams this way. In Western Eruope, they accepted everyone because they have no culture but Japan is an old country with a rich history. Some countries can't change and should not change. Now, immigration and all that, is a different subject.
@@SundaeKongoKingdom I’m sorry to make you misunderstood but I had support Karolina until she gave up her crown as well as Ariana. I just wanted to say that I hate many Westerners think that we worship white people and look down on black people……
I think your friend may have tried to make the “white worship” argument because Karolina would generally not be seen as very attractive in the west , but I’m sure you are right that the inflated public outrage is because she has no Japanese blood whatsoever
I wonder what that woman at 6:00 would say if the winner was a black Nigerian woman raised in Japan ? Just curious, not hating on anyone. Or what the Ukrainians would say if an ethnically Japanese won miss Ukraine. Personally, I think people expect a ‘Miss’ (fill in the country), to be ethically of that nation. Tradition isn’t a bad thing. Or maybe have an Ethnically Miss Japan contest (but the far left would say that’s racist).
No single person should ever represent a country in it's entirety, that is the role of the people as a whole (I know it is also merely a beauty role hahah)
Wow, I'm so surprised by how many people considered her beautiful! Especially as she does not look Japanese. She is not what I would consider beautiful, though I acknowledge that she is attractive. It is so interesting to see what other cultures consider to be beautiful/attractive.
I am Japanese. If a Japanese person were chosen as Miss Ukraine, many Ukrainians would be angry. of course. That's natural. That's not bad.Even if I lived in Ukraine, I will never run for Miss UkraineI can't, given the feelings of Ukrainians.
12:23 Im glad to see dude admitting that to him having a white person win isn’t acceptable but having a black person win would be just INSANE. I like ASIANBOSS because you guys don’t filter and let people speak.
Seriously thats so true 😂 I think they were holding back too, since culturally you just don't say your real blunt opinion in public like that. in Asia the new little mermaid being black received major backlash too.
Because Japanese itself is a race, similarly like Chinese is also a race so it is pretty hard to convince someone from Japan that a person without Japanese blood is a Japanese. It's easier for a country with mulitculture or many immigrants to accept differences. Canada, USA for example has different races to represent their country at international level on beauty pageant.
They have to be Japanese or half-Japanese to compete, because I've never seen a foreigner compete in Binibining Pilipinas, Miss Universe Philippines, etc. it's always full blood Filipino or half-Filipino.
As a Japanese person, I think it is strange for a non-Japanese person to represent Japan in the Miss Japan pageant, since everyone in this video was making comments that were out of line.
And there was a scandal that this lady was a mistress of one of the judges who has a power in the contest. It was super simple reason behind why she won lol
To me, a person who does not have Japanese blood is not Japanese and should not represent the country. She could be the most WHITE EUROPEAN look but if she is part JAPANESE, then it is fair to consider her JAPANESE and should be entitled to join the pageantry. In PHILIPPINES some of the contestants are looking PURE WESTERN WHITE, but they must be part FILIPINO to join. They look WHITE but they are part FILIPINO. This to me is fair but not this title holder of JAPAN who does not have a drop of JAPANESE blood.
I’m half German/ half Russian, but to be fair , that competition was all about the look, so if it’s a miss japan, than it would understandably be a Japanese looking woman. Also that the government has to change for immigrants, definitely not, if someone consider to move to a country like Japan, that person should embrace the culture, language and the behavior of the natives, or else it will end up in conflicts, you can see that all over the western part of the globe.
So what of a half japanese person born and raised in Japan? Japanese is the only language they know and they have never left? If they take on the physical features people associate with the other parent then they are no longer right?
@@aaronmontgomery2055 they are still Japanese and since it about looks, wouldn’t even care if they would be raised in the Japanese manner, or even living in Japan.

Exactly. Since it is about the looks of Japanese people, which I will reasonably define to be the looks of any Japanese citizen, she has the right looks for the contest, since she IS a Japanese citizen, and thus looks like one.
@@fordhouse8b That's so not the case dude, by your logic they could pic any western passing citizen. The message is clear. The one with the most eurocentric looks won. They're basically telling their population they're not pretty enough to be represented by anyone who looks like them, so they rather go with someone who doesn't.
@@fordhouse8b You completely missed the point my friend. A person doesn't look like a japanese citizen through their passport lol. She doesn't have or represent the physical features of the japanese people, thus she didn't even meet the prerequisite for the contest.
@@MademoiselleRed1390 I did not say she (or any random girl with Eurocentric appearance) has the ONLY right looks for the contest. What I mean is that her looks fall within the acceptable spectrum of looks to represent the Japanese nation. Any random Japanese citizen qualifies, which means that obviously more often can not, someone with genetically Japanese looks will win, since such persons constitute the great majority of Japanese nationals, but that occasionally, someone with different looks will win. And if you bother to read up on the contest rules, they clearly specify that the contest is not only about looks. A come on, she is a cute girl, but neither she nor any of there fellow contestants were all that in my opinion, so if was only about looks, the entire slate failed. Which is not to say any of them are ugly, far from it. But the most beautiful girls in Japan? Not by a long shot.
@@MrM9819 YOU missed the point. The pageant represents Japanese nationals, as in Japanese citizens, not Japanese nationals with ‘pure’ Japanese DNA. It is right in the contest rules. 1. must be a Japanese national. 2. Must be unmarried. This is the group she must represent. She is a part of that group, so by definition, she falls within the acceptable range of looks for the purposes and goals of this contest. The rules of the game define what looks are acceptable, and the rules of the game say she is eligible to compete. What document produced by the pageant organizers are you citing that specifies that she does not meet the prerequisites for the contest? The organizers let her compete, so clearly she met whatever prerequisites they decided on, which they have the sole discretion to set.
I can't believe people are debating this. Here in the US, this would be 1,000% racism. And, yet, people love accusing _Americans_ of being racist. This is why Americans should be proud of their country. This would have never been a controversial issue if this woman had won a pageant here in the US. Imagine beauty pageants here in the US being restricted only to caucasian Americans. YIKES.
That show is a complete sham, it was not "miss Japan" like you know it. It's a show for publicity with bought/controlled jury to advance the company's interests, which were served by drawing as much attention as possible, hency why they picked her.
I agree with the half-girl in 9:30, where not only America, but many countries now have people from different races. For countries to mature, we need to treat people not because of their race, but because of their good upbringing.
Miss Nippon is NOT Miss Japan (discontinued). They're different pageants, with separate histories and sponsors. Miss Nippon is not a reputable contest, like Miss Universe or Miss World. The organization is controlled by the Wada family, which has been accused of dishonesty, nepotism and bribery.

The guy who said that was being sarcastic. He says his real opinion later on in the video.

The UK is going under a great replacement of its native people currently. However don't be mistaken to think this was always the case.
I thought there were many beautiful women like Princess Catherine living in England.
It was only recently that I learned that there are many different races living there.
But that's one of the things that makes the British royal family so important, and Maybe that's why Miss Japan should Japannase's looks.
The UK is historically a White European Indigenous nation, of Germanic and Celtic mix, it's not racially Black and never has been up until very recently with the UK and EU allowing mass waves of immigration, and much of that being illegal.
This puts white people on a pedestal, which in terms is “white-worshipping”
Just like the japanese ladies in the video said, they believe white people have been on the “top” for so long, that everyone is jealous of them and idealize their physical features.

Miss Japan should be ethnically Japanese. It is a competition purely based on looks, so the winner needs to look Japanese. Karolina is white, and doesn't look Japanese at all.
The Western-looking girl interviewed in this video is prettier than this Miss Japan winner.
She's more qualified, she's at least half Japanese.
I think some people are confusing nationality and race. They want Miss Japan to be Asian race native to Japan, not just hold japanese nationality.

Old people have a lot of influence from American post war brainwashing
It's hard to answer this, as a US American, cuz it's hard for me to answer objectively based on my culture. US Americans are varied and don't really have a set appearance per say.
He looked dissatisfied…Why do many Westerners look for 〝look up to white point〟and 〝look down on black point〟from us❓
Almost all of us didn’t get Japanese nationality from our own will but Karolina did.
I just wanted to say that I hate many Westerners think that we worship white people and look down on black people……
@@SundaeKongoKingdom Sorry to make you misunderstood but I had supported Karolina until she gave up her title as well as Ariana……
@@SundaeKongoKingdom She came to Japan when she was 5. It's her home. She's Japanese.
I agree!
I'd love to hear you say this publically about Ms. Germany, or Ms. France. You wouldn't dare.
@@Dennis-nc3vw You’re really comparing Germany and France to a country like Japan?
Different type of countries!
@@Dennis-nc3vw why ? Can they not defend themselves ?
No single person should ever represent a country in it's entirety, that is the role of the people as a whole
(I know it is also merely a beauty role hahah)
Wow, I'm so surprised by how many people considered her beautiful! Especially as she does not look Japanese. She is not what I would consider beautiful, though I acknowledge that she is attractive. It is so interesting to see what other cultures consider to be beautiful/attractive.
What's the message of this competition to the young Japanese girls? "It doesn't matter how good you look, a white girl will always win"
What do you mean by "always"? This had never happened before. So *once* out of hundreds of such contests.
このインタビュアーは「日本代表として世界的なミスコンに出場する」と言ってますが、ミス日本は世界大会の予選ではありません。
The winner goes to Miss Universe, doesn't she?

No, ”Miss Nihon” is a Japanese domestic competition.
このような「ミスなんちゃら」ってのは金持ちのオッサンがスポンサーとして関与し、若くて綺麗な女と繋がれるイベントなのでいくつもある。笑
今回の件もまさに該当するんじゃないかな。
Interesting viewpoints expressed . Thank You for the insightful video!
@@RT-qt1xh How about a quarter Japanese person that was born and raised in Japan? How far back do we have to go until they're no longer eligible to represent Japan?
@@RicochetForce doesn’t matter, it’s not only about Japan, also miss Germany or miss Russia, miss Ukraine, it should be the ethnic group, when it’s about the look. A quarter isn’t enough
@@RT-qt1xh Who are you to claim a quarter isn't enough? What if a quarter means she has the typical Japanese phenotype and the only way you'd know she was 1/4 was if she said so or via records?
1/4 is a quite arbitrary point as well. Why not exclude 1/2 Japanese people?
4:49 the most reasonable comment. "Since it's about looks..."
I love how the guy who looked like he might be a rapper at 5:10 spoke really fast like he was actually dropping bars lol
Let's say the dethroned girl is Japanese by law but she is Ukrainian by birth and blood.

Japan and US are built differently. However, because Half Japanese girl has Japanese blood in her veins, Japanese people see her as Japanese.
