My great grandparents used to ride the train up to Hardy from Paragould, Arkansas over a century ago. They camped in the area where our cabin is now and owned much of the land destroyed when the 62 HWY bridge and the river road was built. I still co-own our family cabin, but d/t being disabled and disheartened by the destruction of the once pristine Spring River area I don't go home anymore. Thank you so very much for making this video. It's priceless. I wish I knew how to download it somehow to keep it in case it ever gets taken down. Shared it to my facebook page so I can show it to others and re-watch it again and again. We once had a map hanging in the cabin that showed all the historic sites and named all of the falls and areas of interest of the entire area of both the Spring and South Fork rivers. Unfortunately it was lost with many things in the 1982 flood. That flood completely covered the roof of the cabin with only the chimney partially visible. It's a blessing that it still stands! When my mother and father cared for the cabin we kept it period style and my dad did all the upkeep on it. It is now changed and not kept as a family friendly cabin as it was intended. Sadly I don't even want to see it or the changes in the cabin and Hardy area. Burdens my very soul to know home is no longer home anymore. Thank God I am going to Heaven! RIP Spring River. You live on in my heart and soul.
Many a night in the 1970's my friends and I would sneak onto this closed bridge to sit on the edge of it and just be. It was a wonderfully quiet and peaceful place to get away from everything and everyone. Oh I loved the old Alton Bridge. So sad to know that it too is gone.
My uncle and aunt retired to Mammoth Springs in the 1960's and we started going in 1967 my aunt worked at the show factory and then the state line steak house in Thayer. My uncle worked at the Ford dealer in Mammoth for a while. We started canoing the river in 1969 before there was so many drunks on the river , fond memories.
That you for sharing this wonderful piece of history. I grew up in the Mammoth Spring/Thayer area it is where I spent the first 25 years if my life. I would love to have this video for my memory book. Thank you again.
I was hatched in Little Rock . Arkansas and grew up around these small towns with my grand parents . The Johnson’s and the bakers. My Aunt Bonny Gazaway worked at chouch school most her life. I was 10 years old back in the 70’s now 60 in California- and I hate California it’s OVERATED 🤣🤣🤣

Very well done. Thanks for posting.
I know Ken and Atticus. They did such a great job. Thayer, MO and the surrounding areas are just wonderful places.
