Back in the day, at least 51% of us had no clue just how huge his contribution to Zeppelin was.
You are awesome what great talent and genius you have I want people to hear and see you more. You are really blended with Jimmy's guitar. Love it. Lynne
WRONG! Because you didn't doesn't mean the rest of us didn't... 🥱🥱
When plant and page played in 90s I think it was I wouldn’t go because I was so mad Jones wasn’t asked. When I look back I wish I went anyway. :/
Nothing makes me happier than seeing a true professional having a great time doing what he does best.
Zeppelin would not have been Zeppelin if not for Jonesy, amazing musician.
+Kent Mains Shit this sounds awesome! So glad I came across it. Yep, it's the quiet achievers who you have to look out for.
Zep's "secret" weapon
Led Zeppelin literally had the best at every position
JPJ never did get the recognition he deserved. Just my opinion.
True Zep fans know JPJ & bonham were the true talents ... Possibly the greatest rhythm section in rock-n-roll history . These two were never sloppy & were tight as a drum.
Greg Denis They were great but Ginger Baker & Jack Bruce were the greatest rhythm section in rock-n-roll history.
JPJ is still in great shape, and still plays a mean slide.
I will never *not* be left utterly awestruck anytime I watch him play.
When The Levee Breaks, is one of the greatest Rock songs ever recorded.
This is the kind of jam that stays on repeat.
Oh boy! JPJ playing lead slide guitar and sounding amazing? Am I dreaming?
Now we know why the Page/Plant Reunion in the 90s didn't sound that great.
Wow, he makes it look so easy, playing hard rock, blusy tone out of that steel string with perfection. What a gift to mankind, John Paul Jones.
The GOAT for multi-instrument arrangement and talent. He makes the likes of Beethoven and Mozart seem like idiots.
He broke the levee once again!!!! SUPER!
It must be so intimidating play bass on a Zep song with the man wrote the bassline watching your every move
Kinda like when the roots were playing drums on the tonight show when phil collins performed in the air
But just imagine having someone like JPJ as your idol and mentor ...
the guy wouldn't even be up there if JPJ didn't have absolute confidence in him. All these dudes are great musicians, I love the drummer.
And this is why guitars are the greatest invention ever....ever! The quiet one rips it up. Thanks.
Yeah he is. Maybe the fans didn't but his band mates gave him the respect. He brought such an amazing sound that complimented and contrasted the heavy blues sound that Jimmy brought in much of their rock. His influence in later albums is undeniable.
John Paul Jones is frighteningly good on that Steel Guitar!!
Wake me up and let me know when someone invents THE instrument JPJ cannot master!
***** Well in that case........... you my friend Roy are going to be sleeping for the rest of your life.
+Roy Bishop agreed....i saw him when he opened for King Crimson in Columbus @ 2004...amazing
PS both JPJ and Crimson kicked ass
This is a REAL musician, kids. Long live JPJ!
I worship this man. The consummate musician. Skill, passion, musicianship. So much talent. Nobody seems to have this anymore.
Listen to Clutch. I honestly believe they're the modern incarnation of Zeppelin.
This is SO not true. Check out Robert Fripp, or ANYBODY that's been associated with King Crimson. KC has always had the most competent, technical, musicians. Virtuosos all. And Yes or Genesis as well. Way beyond Zep's skill level.
@@jonathanedwards8696 hahaha i love Crimson, but it's a different kind of band, not as nearly as influential in music history as Zepp. I don't know why u got so triggered, but you got so carried away by your own entitled opinion that didn't even notice the ANYMORE at the end of the original comment. Go back to your cave.
JPJ. A class act that did so much for Zeppelin. Great to see his talent (he can play ANYTHING) shown off here and guess what? He is enjoying himself. So many musicians seem to make it look like torture to be playin'. Good on you John!!!
Thankful I'm alive the same time that JPJ is...what an otherworldly musician.
dude is looking good for late 60s early 70s.
dont think jonesy ever got the true recognition for what he put in zeppelin did he ? he was the quiet one
the more i see of him, the more i'm convinced he was the star of that band. talent in fucking spades and a genuinely funny, humble man when interviewed - unlike the other two "stars" who often sound like wankers.
I hate how JPJ was overshadowed by the other band members when he had the most musical talent.
yes indeed - by all accounts a quiet man who preferred to let the peacocks (Page & Plant) hog the lime light while he quietly went about his business - bass, composition, arrangements and latterly holding the whole drug crumbling affair together - he practically wrote, recorded and arranged in thru the out door himself with plant. much, much underrated
+George Milne Yes, 100% agree. Every interview I've seen with JPJ indicates that he preferred it this way. He just stepped back and lost himself in the groove with Bonzo. Today, since he headlines his own bands, he takes the limelight, talks, and then tears it up on whatever music he is playing. He is a very humble man and I don't think he thinks he is underrated in the slightest.
@@cpad007 Not entirely true. JPJ got totally pissed off with Zeppelin and nearly left. Peter Grant talked him round by giving him more recognition in the shows with stuff like his limelight spot with No Quarter.
you don't see Paul Gilbert playing rhythm for a whole lot of people.
I saw Zepplin play in Dallas 3 different times. I always admired J.P.Jones ability to play the right bass parts. He never got too busy, he just laid down a great big fat bottom end that made Zepplin the band they were. Jones is a very accomplished musician on many instruments. Always laid back and very cool...
Phenomenal . John is a true true true musician
Crying won’t help you praying won’t do you no good
Bass players never get the recognition they deserve!!!
Those drums though, that snarrrrre
I watched and was amazed at JPJ's amazing lap steel skills. I was sitting there thinking that he easily makes up for half the things done wrong by musicians and the music industry in general. And then I realised his bass player is playing a PJ that looks like a ric and now I can't stop wanting that one goddam bass
JPJ has always been one of my favorite bassists. Seeing this gives me even more appreciation of the depth of talent he has. Killer version of this Zep classic.
This guy is a Genius ! Underated multi musician , oh boy! Love youre talent , personality, sens of humor, and humility , Mr Jones.
I'd didn't even know he played slide. I always assumed it was all Page. One of my alltime favorite bass players. Some of the most powerfull bass lines in rock history. Thanks for everything so far JPJ!
Holy crap this is just something else! Wow!
Jones was always the one keeping the band in tune and on time.
wow, this is one of the best live takes I have heard of this song. the drums are perfect. plant has done some ok covers but they are too mellow but with a band like this, he could nail it if he had to.
This man can play any instrument, and play it well I might add.
never saw him having this much fun with zeppelin
+Rzky Brl Dunno about that. Page and Jones were successful before Zep. Bonham and Plant were basically new to the scene.
just because you didnt see him having fun doesnt mean he wasnt, check out led zep san fransisco, its a snippet from a gig in 73 and you can see jpj and bonzo having a conversation in the middle of a song lol
Are you Fing kidding me? This has to be THE hardest hitting highest emotional content video ever. MANY THANKS FOR putting this up!!!
I knew you were awesomely talented JPJ but OMG that was on another plane of existence .
I've ALWAYS said this...
John Paul Jones is the MOST talented member of Led Zep...!!!
They were all extremely talented. Plus they also had incredible musical chemistry together.
+MrSoillam Well I don't agree but it's a completely legit opinion, and no doubt that JPJ is extremely talented!
+MrSoillam Robert Plant plays the guitar really well too. Not as good as Jimmy of course.
He got millions and doesn't have to deal w paparazzi as much, I'd say he blessed
AMAZING, MY CULT HERO, He normally plays Bass, and Keyboard, but have an astonishing talent for sting instruments, and here its not only His play, but His mind on focusing, on the performance, I sheed a Tear, - KR Jann, Århus - Denmark!!
The most underrated artist in history....long live to JPJ!
I saw John Paul Jones on his Zooma tour Dec 4, 2001 ! He was amazing and played "That's the Way" by himself on the mandolin and sang it. He also played "When the Levee Breaks" on that lap steel guitar as well ! He was unbelievable !
When I met him after the show - he was so gracious, nice and very personable.
The guys are getting into the trance of the groove, then they look over and say, holy shit, we're on stage with the mighty John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin! 🤩
He’s like the best wine, keeps improving with age
Him playing on the play for change track is epic
Magnificent! I've never seen JPJ enjoying himself so much!
Incredibly satisfying to see the legendary John Paul Jones out there enjoying what he was put here to do.
There is no end when it comes to John Paul Jones...the altimate musician
Bad Fuckin Ass! One of my VERY favorite Zeppelin songs. Didn't know Jonsey played steel guitar but OMG he freakin' nailed it. He deserves way more recognition than he has received. Great to see him as a lead player for a change. Looks like he was really having fun!
I'm in love. I was oblivious of how talented he is. The best band ever! The stars align when they came together
He was always reserved and straight laced in zep sorta in the backdrop.....its really refreshung to see him animated and really loose having a great time.....JPJ WAS AND IS MY FAVORITE UNSUNG HERO OF THAT BAND!!!
CEL MAI TARE .....OM ORCHESTRA din lume !!!!
JPJ can play ANYTHING and shine like a diamond
What an awesome groove this song possesses. I could listen to it forever. Every time that I listen to it I feel the same as when I first heard it.
JPJ is one heck of an artist! This is a great song. And this is BAD ass.... Epic!
un Mozart o un Bethoveen del siglo XX a los que nos gusta la musica , apreciamos a John Paul Jones... eres y seras muy grande
The guy is a genius.
John Paul Jones is a awesome musician! Happy Birthday Genius!
I love this...love seeing JPJ so animated. He def was the most talented and the sexiest member of Zep. This brings me so much happiness.
Obviously enjoying every second of what he was doing. What a player!!!!!
No wonder Page chose him to be in Zeppelin. A true musician. And he shows it in so many styles. Love ya JPJ.
The man is just a genius!
I love this version by JPJ, dirty, loud, low-down, kickass.
one observation i have is that jpj just looks like hes having such a good time! ie smiling!
Love the snare tone..
Mr Jones deserves a bit more credit for our beloved Zep
There is nobody that doesn't credit JPJ for Zep alongside the credits for the other 3.
like the way he puts his arm up as a signal to change to other part.
He's usually in the background historically, but I love he's front and center showing ppl what a boss he was for all these years!!
This guy plays every instrument
Wow❤it was mot all jimmy you were making as much as him. Honor to you john paul. Lynne
This is the glue that held it all together bass players the unsung heroes .im down with the underdogs not ,flash and sparkles raw talent
That's 4 huge musicians killing it and having so much fun!
Jonesy is THE wizard ... Love to see him getting the limelight.
Love Paul's face. I could also be playing this song on loop fr hours if I were with one of my heroes too ...
Mastelotto nails the menacing feel of the beat and Mike brings all the fat the song needs.
Love it.
Nice one JPJ! About time he was appreciated for his many talents.
The man who can play anything.
AMEN, Kent and others who know JPJ's talent...... he was never one to grab the limelight, but he just kept pumpin' out music in the background.
Always respected this guy for what he did and is doing
John you are having more fun playing than me hearing, AND IM HAVING A LOT OF FUN!
F__cking Brilliant…..love this guy and Paul Gilbert ain't too shabby, either.
Great musician , in my favourite's list since i heard it
Long live Jonesy! Love you...
Unlimited skill and talent. A good composer and showman!! This is magical......... I saw thing this time I had not noticed before. DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!! I just happened to be born at the right time for great music and cars.
All eyes on Jonesy. The master musician.
Dude is a musical guru
That drummer knows exactly what he is doing
John Paul Jones is so lucky to be playing with the legendary Paul Gilbert!
I used to watch Jonesy back in the day with Zep, and he seemed like he could take it or leave it, but lately he’s turned into a one man Zeppelin, he was a session musician like/with Jim so yea he is very very talented on multiple instruments.
I Love this ......one more time please boys.
Awesome in for the love of it.what a sweet blessing for us to have been given such legendary talent.its like being smart.his talents are across the full spectrum.
J.P.J. has more talent in his pinky finger that most people have in their entire body.!!!!! This is GOOD stuff!........ Rock and roll dudes............ Thanks men!!
He visto más vídeos de este buen hombre y en todos se ve que disfruta lo que hace. Humildad y maestría a toneladas. Gracias, John Paul Jones.
Way to go Jonesy. A true musical genius.
This should have millions of views
a true master of his craft mister john paul jones
What instrument can you play
JPJ: yes
LMFAO 😆😆🤣🤘🤘🍻
Pretty much right.
The man could play mandolin or keyboards and bass (well, organ bass pedals) at the same time. And then there's the triple-necked acoustic instrument that he'd trot out for Ten Years Gone, while playing organ bass pedals. And let's not forget, he conducted the orchestra on 'Everybody Hurts' for R.E.M., and I believe it was the Grammys where he conducted an orchestra live for a Foo Fighters performance.
I'm way more talented I play a variety of....air instruments example I was second from the last qualifying for air guitar contest at the local bar!!!!!!lol
@@bluorangefyre clarinet 😅
