My son has brought over a school friend for the first time. When it was almost time to leave, she told me she was afraid and would get hit for not having gone straight home. She then poured her heart out. I called the cops, told them she wasn’t going back there. They came, made a report and left her with me. It was supposed to be for a week or so till they found fosters but it ended up being 2 years. Don’t be afraid to say no I’m not sending that child back to hell. If you can’t provide a safe haven, call everyone you know but do something. Rest in peace sweet boy 💐

I love it when people say "just keep them!" Yeah, then you go to prison for kidnapping. Don't get me wrong, you did the right thing but you were very lucky that you weren't charged. Due to low wages, people also won’t work in facilities, as they are violent places…so we don’t have beds available and those that are run at half a million dollars and up. If republicans won’t fund programs that feed and house children at risk, this will just get worse.

DCFS is horrible about taking children when it’s not warranted and leaving children with abusive caregivers. My heart hurts for these children. The dang system really could do better. Our society HAS failed this precious child! Along with many others! Believing that reunification with parents or family is NOT in the best interest of children. There needs to be a complete overhaul of services regarding children. Just because a parent fails doesn't mean the child has too. In the mean time there needs to be better vetting and a limit to how many cases a worker has to carry.

A ex friend of mine got her children back because her youngest was being molested by his foster father.

They did contact child protection but then the parents pulled the child out of school. The question should be why they were allowed to do that. It seems like a huge red flag. Maybe there are legal reasons why they couldn’t prevent it, I don’t know, but it might be something that should be looked into by the legislature to prevent this happening in the future.

That entire system has failed Gavin, not those who put money on his account and reported the situation to DCFS. When someone reports him, workers try to provide assistance, step mother refuses assistance. And DCFS is unavailable. A review and update of the system is needed to prevent this from repeating this tragedy. Very sad.

I was wondering how did the stepmother find out that he was getting his lunch paid for. When the teacher found out that he was getting food out of the garbage and knew he was hungry. That should have been the time to report to the authority. The school should have asked him what was going on at home but to do that you have to get him comfortable to tell you. Many people do not know how to talk with the children and nobody step up to let him live in their home. If someone at the school or if they had good people that they know would take the child into their home.
DCSF regulations need to be updated. There are too many children falling Through the cracks. Each state should be held accountable. If there is a shortage Start using social work majors and future teachers to at least do an internship credit for their degree Qualifications.

My friend is almost getting custody of her daughter back. They'll sleep at my house for now till she gets a better apartment. This girl is 13 and she acts younger because the aunt and grandmother spoiled her. Everytime she comes here she always does the same thing . I think she thinks I'll give in like get mother but she's in for a rude awakening. I told my friend she should go to classes to how to better parent to a teenager.

That entire system has failed Gavin, not those who put money on his account and reported the situation to DCFS. When someone reports him, workers try to provide assistance, step mother refuses assistance. And DCFS is unavailable. A review and update of the system is needed to prevent this from repeating this tragedy. Very sad.

There are too many people that will not take a child in their home but are complaining about the CPS . Personally I raised my nephew as my own child when his mother wasn't able to do so and in his teens I let him go live with his mother.

You are right. It's only going to get worse because they don't have the support by the government which is that they are cutting the budget for the agency. So more children will be abused by the parents. You'll be surprised how many relatives will not take the children in their home and if they do they will be abused or killed by the relative. And there's been cases where the adopted parents abuse or killed the children. I've been reading a lot of this is happening all across the country and many people are not willing to help a child but to complain about the CPS not doing their job.

I was wondering how did the stepmother find out that he was getting his lunch paid for.
When the teacher found out that he was getting food out of the garbage and knew he was hungry. That should have been the time to report to the authority. The school should have asked him what was going on at home but to do that you have to get him comfortable to tell you. Many people do not know how to talk with the children and nobody step up to let him live in their home.
If someone at the school or if they had good people that they know would take the child into their home.
DCSF regulations need to be updated. There are too many children falling Through the cracks. Each state should be held accountable. If there is a shortage Start using social work majors and future teachers to at least do an internship credit for their degree Qualifications.
