- Hi Flower Friends! It's Nicole from Flower Hill Farm- today my son Axel and I are hanging out and planting several hundred liatris bulbs. This might be my favorite video because it's just me and my boy chatting about nothing- a real day for us. This is life!
The bulbs were sourced from dutchbulbs.com

OMG Axel is so stinkin' cute! And he has his mom's goofy sense of humor - lucky kid...
I agree! I think this is my favorite video!! These moments with your children are PRICELESS and will won't be forgotten! ❤️❤️
I planted 75 tulip bulbs last fall. After they bloomed and died back somewhat, I needed to dig them up so I could move them. I never expected them to divide so aggressively. I now have over 400 bulbs to plant this fall. Many won't bloom next spring, of course, but I'm going to have to expand my beds, which gives me an excuse to dig up more of the lawn.
Such a sweet video. Took me back to when my boys were little. Now they're grown with their own families. Enjoy those moments with your son, you'll blink your eyes and they'll be grown.
Omg you and your sons relationship is so beautiful. You guys just tickled my ❤️
😊 thank you
Such a good helper.
Awesome , love love the little helper and you two … I cried bc my kids are teens now and they are drifting away … Enjoy these moments ,they may not last loo long 🤗
I am so happy for you Nicole. You will do great things I can already see it🥰
Thank you so much!!
He’s a good boy for helping you 🪴.He is funny too😂
Maybe you could think about planting your liatris final succession planting in bulb bins - that way they'd be easy to lift and you could store them so you'd always have a succession.
Hair hat 🤣🤣🤣 love!
Your son is so cute and sweet😊
I enjoyed this video with your son. He seems to be enjoying life like you do. You guys are amazing gardeners! I love your channel. I’m learning so much! I’m so grateful!
Fire ants are the spawn of Satan. Can’t hate them enough. LOL I loved watching you with your son. He is adorable. 😍
This was the cutest video! I'm so glad you left your conversations in and didn't fast-forward through it all. He has such a great sense of humor! Excited for his talent show 😂!
Thank you so much!!
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️!!! That kid cracks me up!
I wish I could get my grandsons to help in my garden
What a great helper 😉
Thank you
Love this! You and your son are so sweet together!
That was cute
Omg Axel is so much like you 😂😂😂👍 looks like you and jokes like you 😍
When you asked him if he wanted to hang out with you he took it literally. This video was alot of fun, truly enjoyed it! Thanks to you both.
Also, I just loved your conversation with your son! So wonderful. Time with children in the garden is always time well spent.
So sweet!! : )
I truly enjoy your time with your son together, I am sure each moment is treasured now and forever.
Loved the video 😇😇😇😇😇😇
I love your channel so much💗 And your son is adorable~ I wish I'd raised my son in the dirt like you are!!!🌱🌱🌱
Special 1:1 time with your boy!! Cherish those times! So sweet to eaves drop in on your conversations. Love your channel! I’m learning so much!!!! ❤️
Loved your video and the interaction between you and your son. I just got a box of 30 Liatris to plant. We will see how it goes. 😄
Your personality is soo infectious! ....my son is grown now, but loved helping me garden, dig, PLAY,lol....we rode dirt bikes together too!!!..... never regret playing w/ him.... & this week he became aDad to a beautiful baby Boy!!!! 😎........
That is awesome! Congrats!
the ending when he flops out hahahaha
Things I love about this video: a rolling camera capturing some moments that slip by too fast; a boy and his mom, digging in the dirt; seeing you give him your ear, and some shoulder to shoulder time. There are more things I love too, like seeing your ground is not perfect, and I can feel good knowing you garden like I do. I love all your videos about the pretty flowers and how awesome you are doing. I could go on and on, but, I have a 5 year old son whom I enjoy having with me during my tasks, just to hear him talk. So, this video was just a feel good video! ☺️ Thanks for the Momma moments too!
I have already planted my Liathris.
( but off course not as many as you have planted.)
I ve read, if the drainage is good (gravel, sand inderneath the foot of the scorn) ( wet winters ...cause rotting) and if it not too cold they might survive and become bigger and better ...
I hope for you that you will have an abundance of flowers to harvest.
All the best.
The place where you have planted the tulips ...planti g marygold is very good for the soil and for the new bulbs that you might plant there in fall.
Greetings
Marcus
TOOOOO cute!! Made my day!
Cherish those special moments with your son, love the video.
My Liatris is already sprouting this year 😳. I only have a small number. So I collected seeds last. They have spent time in the freezer, then planted in a tray and held in the refrigerator for 2 weeks. Now they are out and on the heat mat. I hope it works because there are over 100 seeds in there! I can't wait to see how yours do from this planting.
Adorable...memories made for you and your very creative sweet son. Thank you for all you share from North Idaho zone 6a 💚🌻🌿
Near you.. Lewis/Clark Valley zone 7b.
Today is an Awesome day! 🤗You’re Awesome Your son is Awesome Your Liatris will be Awesome & Holy Moly your Soil is Awesome!!!💚
Thank you so much!
I love this video so much!!! Mother son time is the best!!! 💙💙💙
What a sweet little dude. Makes me excited to plant/chat with my boys in a few short years. You’re a good mama.
You’re son is precious! God bless him!
One of my favorite videos yet! these are the moments we cherish for a lifetime! Thanks for sharing with all of us!
They grow in at least zone 3b. There are some in front of my aunts camp that comeback every year in northern Maine.
My kids love the same channel 😂
I cant wait for conversations like that with my son while planting :) adorable
Axel! Like a butterfly out of its chrysalis!! Thanks for this.
I love when my son helps me plant. It’s so special ♥️
is so cute that you bb is helping on the flowers planting ‼🤠‼👍🤣⚘🌻🌷🌹⚘🌷
Hair is natures hat 🧢🥰🥰🥰
❤️ I also love coyote Peterson and brave wilderness. I show his videos to my science students all the time. Enjoyed seeing you and Axel bonding in the garden.
Awe the things your learn from your sweet son!! 😂😂😂😂
I bought some Benary Giants Zinnia starts from my nursery and planted them out beginning of May and they fried. They were outside so I figured they would be acclimated. It wasn’t even that hot here yet, around 70’s during the day and upper 40’s/low 50’s at night. I’m thinking of just direct seeding them and hope for the best.
Loved this video with Axel! What a great life 💓
I freid at least ten of my teddy bear sunflower seedlings. This weather is craziness! Such a cute conversation!!
Silly conversations are the best thing with my boys... :)
So nice to see your son. He is a great kid!
He reminded me sooooooo much of my 9 yr son!
I was thinking that's perhaps Axel's age.
Oh so very precious!!❣️❣️❣️ I used to eat the white end of the grass as a kid too!!!!
Eavesdropping on your conversation with Axel reminds me of my nephew's three boys.
They used to live two blocks from me and would often stop on their evening walks. They moved about five miles from me so they're still close. They have a small pond in their back yard so I gave them my Pawley's Island rope hammock because even in my back yard I was too embarrassed when I'd bottom out.
I love when my niece-in-law posts to FB her conversations with the boys.
Today was a full day of gardening. It's starting to look really good, if I say so myself. 😆 Following Garden Answer Laura's program of zoning out my yard for a weeding schedule I decided Mondays would be for my late sister, Marcia's, garden. It looks glorious! The pink blooms of the 'Prairie Fire' crabapple (her birthday is in late May) against the "carpet" of white wind anemones is striking. Even the postal carrier stopped to admire them. He came back later with a package (not for me) and commented on my tulips that are so brilliant.
Here in 4b, we hit close to 80 degrees. We needed that rain cloud that was affecting Axel's hat hair. I chased the hose around all day and the soil was bone dry when I planted a Spanish lavender plant next to the driveway.
My peonies are getting ready to pop! Let the show begin. ('Paula Faye', 'Gay Paree', 'Do Tell' and another variety whose name escapes me. A couple unknown varieties that came with the house 30 years ago are looking better than ever. I guess our cooler than normal spring appealed to them.)
Great memories made that day 🌻❤️
What a sweet boy!
Oh Joy! You have a pretty cute helper today. He was so funny in the hammock 'peeking out'. And those "Girls" in the background are just adorable! I have 2 boys that are grown, and this took me back about 40 years. I love the small talk about ants and 'poop'. Those "girls" at the end of the video make me laugh, they are talkin. Keep bringing us those incredible videos , so many people love em. Blessings garden friend and the Axel (helper). Laurene
I planted Liatris a couple weeks ago and it's growing so fast! I'm super excited for it.
Bonding moments with boys.
Poop, and pee conversations lol I have two boys and this takes me back to this age!
omg....EVERY conversation always ended up with Poop, I raised 5 sons, so I had to laugh, all boys are the same!!!
Love liatris! They are awesome performers in my Zone 3 garden!
Your son is a crack up ! I vote yes! to the comedy talent show !!!! PS I have been bitten by fire ants... it's no joke, OUCH
What a handsome lad looks like His Mama 😍You can always do a comedy routine if the flowers don't work out😏 the both of you are are sweet together and hysterical!💌🌱🌷🌸🍁🌺🌼
Thanks so much
succession planting for long term can be done by planting some in shadier spot. I have garden on a slope and the bottom is shaded by trees, top is on full sun. Few meters can make a big difference.
These look great with lilies.
I had no idea about the Ednie transfer to Ball. I was waiting for their sales on dahlia tubers and it never came. Thanks for the info
I miss those conversations with my (now adult) boys! Enjoy it while it lasts.
What a sweet & cute video!! Liatris reseeds pretty prolifically and they blow around much like dandelion seeds too, so don't be surprised if you notice them coming up in other areas if you don't get them all cut back for your bouquets.
I did the same thing growing up...eating the tender bit inside the grass shoot. I remember pretending it was bamboo 😂. Your son sounds like mine. They love those gristly nature facts, lol!
The first time I planted potatoes I accidentally put them close to a fire ant nest, so when I dug them up they started stinging up my arm D: they where protected from rodent damage tho lol
So sweet having Mother - Son bonding time gardening :) He's got quite the sense of humour as well! Apple, tree?
BEAUTIFUL SOIL!!
Your son is so cute!
i have Liatis growing also ...my first year for them ....love your channel and watch you every time you post
...and here come the chickens 🐔!
I am in zone 9. Have planted liatris bulbs several times. I think they like cooler weather down south to zone 8. I didn’t bother with them this yr. & none have yet popped up from last yr. i do love that flower.
I searched everywhere around here this Spring., I’m in Canada (still zone 4b) and lockdowns are continuing forever... and can’t find any liatris ☹️ I will have to order some for next year...
I’m sure they will be beautiful.
I already started direct seeding., have lots popping up already. Sure wish I could show you pictures. I have added soooo many gardens. Not nearly as much space as you and much more compacted. But I am going for the packed full to the brim look. And The more, the merrier I will be. 😋
This will be my test year to see what works for me. Not expecting anything this year, other than to create some beautiful bouquets for myself😁, multiply my plants and collect seeds for next year from my favs.
Sending happy gardening wishes from this 🇨🇦Flower Friend. 🙏🏻
Literally just got done planting the last of my liatris, sourced from the same company! Can't wait to see how they do for you.
Thanks again
Fire ants are the worst! Ugh! We have them everywhere here. Love your sunglasses! 😎
You could bag your garden soil and SELL it! 😅
I used to love having one on one with my children. Also the link for the liatris isn’t working.
I'm a Zone 4 in Minnesota and mine come back each year 😊
I'm in Minneapolis and I don't think mine came back the next season. I probably enriched the soil too much and they rotted.
I will try again as the butterflies love them. I had to shoo them away so I could get the plants in the car.
Nicole did you name your son after the lead singer from Guns’n’Roses? You little rocker you! 😁
Not exactly after him but yes! He's the only other Axel we know! (Axl)
@@FlowerHillFarm I had an uncle Axel. Old German dude.
Deer resistant but rabbits loooove them.
What a good son helping his mama! Fire ants are bad and they burn when they bite you, thus fire ants!
I would say he earned about 30 minutes of screen time. AND, if he also cleaned his room, he could have an extra piece of gum! HA!!
His room is always clean! Now my daughter on the other hand 🙄😂
I'm in Indiana zone 6a. I planted liatris a couple weeks ago. They haven't done anything. I just bought the corms this year. I don't know what I did wrong. Should they have already came up? I love your videos.
Last year, after I planted mine in the spring, it took several weeks to even see a blade of foliage! Give it time, they are worth it! 😉
@@stephaniecooper7796 thank you
Your son watches Coyote Peterson!! I'm a fan 💗
My corn cockle seedlings are already starting to fry, and I hardened them off for over a week, ugh.
I can't risk it! It was awful last year. I hope they recover for you!
I have grown liatris this year, each one is pretty big, are you planting too close???? Or are they ok like that as I spaced mine? Only asking as fb I could save space if they are ok close together
This is how far apart we were instructed to plant them in flower farming school.
@@FlowerHillFarm great, will give it a go! Xx
@@FlowerHillFarm so interesting! I was concerned about the spacing too as my bag last year said to use much larger spacing. I planted them last year about a foot apart and this year they are huge! They readily self seed too. 😬 I’m going to have liatris everywhere as it’s already coming up.
I’m a zone 3 and Liatris grow here as a perennial.
Yes her in zone 4b, too. I think they do better if divided every couple years.
Why did you plant them so close together? Will you have to separate them later?
Three inches is standard spacing for liatris 💐
