I have no idea who you are but, I am so proud of you young man!
My son is just about to turn 12 and is currently enrolled in young eagles class and is studying hard to fly. The flight instructor who we signed up under told us "he's too young. Come back at 16yrs old" however my son knows what he wants and is learning as much as possible.
I'm going to show him this video tomorrow to encourage him that there are other young men out there who have drive and determination.

While your son is never too young to start flight training the instructor might be referring to the fact that in the United States one must be at least 16 years old to solo.

Great job! I soloed on my 16th birthday and will never forget it, just like I’ll never forget my first instrument approach to minimums by myself. I had 250 hours when I soloed so I felt super confident. 30 years later I realize how little I knew. Be careful! Those first 1000 hours require a lot of humility to survive.

As a 14 year old, getting a helping hand up is much better than getting a kick in the face. Instead of telling your kids "you can't", you need to start telling them "you can" and then helping them like this young lad. Now it's time to start teaching him instrument flying and aircraft math - time/speed/distance calculations, preflight planning, and takeoff and landing distance calculations for various aircraft weights and density altitudes. 🤠

My daughter soloed at 16. I swicthed her from the 150 I was renting to m PA28 4 place. A couple of flights she lost the engine on downwind and rode the stall warning all the way around and landed about 100 feet from the runway hitting a barbed wire fence which gave her a sudden stop. No injuries and a few pocks on the airframe when the arbed wire broke.

I am his age and I pulled out FAR/AIM 2024 I got for my b-day to double check, all aeronautical regulation is handled federally so states don’t matter and we can’t fly a plane until 16. There are ways you can get into the copilots seat sometimes with “young eagles” and “EAA explorer(sky boyscout)” but that isn’t an option everywhere and I am lucky I live in the city where young eagles was founded so back to sadly googling plane stuff nearby I guess.
