Hi.. Can I ask you question? I want to know your gopro resolution in this video and you facing any freezing with your g6 gimbal when stop recording button is press using g6 gimbal itself to end video? My g6 plus with gopro hero 7 will freeze when pressing the gimbal to stop recording. Start recording OK. Mostly happened with resolution higher than 1080p

This video is the best I've seen yet about the neighborhood. I'm the record guy on Astor Place for 20 years. I was working that day. That is my silver van and my record table on the sidewalk that are visible in the beginning of the video between about :35 and 1:20. Whoopty-do.

Used to work in a "head" shop after school in the mid-60's. It was in a basement storefront on St Mark's near 1st Ave. The East Village was at the time transitioning from a Polish working class neighborhood to one filled with the "true" hippies fleeing from the commercialization of the Village around Washington Square. Me and my mates used to hang at a Polish restaurant on Avenue A. Fun times.

Mistie Richardson - hey mistie- I knew a mistie in Richardson tx in the 80’s. Sister of Shane.
You know, I live on st marks. Outside of town we have country. not even 2 hours away with farms and everything- skiing too. Some really good.
But wherever you choose to live in life things are expensive- pay is commensurate with where you are. Pretty much.
Back to what we have here:
We have deep flowing rivers to canoe upon. And canoe camping trails to enjoy.
We have crystal clear lakes in less than 6 hours away (ADK) with moons and bright stars and a pretty and clean warm ocean in the summer with cool beach culture. It is actually the best region I’ve ever inhabited. And I’ve lived all over.
      Montana was nice though... sigh.

There's Joey Ramone's old place..." It was, and probably still is a place where lots of musicians lived/ hung out. Cheap rent and lots of clubs.

I lived here in the 70s. I lived in the building that the Gem Spa is located in. Everything is different. There are no shops that were there in the 70s except the Gem Spa. I find it sad that it has been taken over by a lot of chains but I guess that is the way most cities have gone now.

Great writers and more have read there, lectured, etc. Keep on walking!

This brings back memories. When I lived in Westchester three of my friends lived in the East Village. At the time it was still called "The Bowery" and was the least expensive area to live in Manhattan. I used to take the #6 train from GTC to Astor Place. A whole "nother" world. It was a lot "sleazier" in the late 70's - early 80's. We used to meet at McSorleys and stop at Ray's Pizza. There was also a bar (no sign) called the "no-name" bar where you sometimes find members of popular "bands" hanging out. It was a popular haunt for the Keith Richards and the Stones along with the Clash and The Ramones. I think it was on a corner on 1st ave. I doubt the bar is still there. It reflecting glass all around it, so the patrons could see out but you couldn't see in. Maybe it was "Bar" or "Sunny Bar".

In 1993 i was hosting my business partners in NYC. We ran across a dive bar (can't remember the name) on 1st Ave around 9th Street - near Coyote Ugly. We had such a great time we "lived" there the entire weekend. Roach races down the bar. Nightly blues band wailing their axes about 5 feet away. Priceless. About 4 years ago two of us went down to try and find the bar and relive great times. We walked in to a bunch of hipsters (ironic beards and no socks) playing trivia games. Turned right around and vacated immediately. Ah well.......

Walked by Theater 80 St Marks and did not show the plates of the silent movie stars. There is a reason a shop is named after Led Zed's Physical Graffiti is because a building on the street was used as the cover photo for the album. I was lucky enough to live in the neighborhood for over 10 years until the rents went through the roof.

@@nofood1 i know you can film people im just wondering the actual law because ppl make videos all the time where people say STOP RECORDING ME but they obviously dont have to.. isnt there a law against using the footage for a profit? isnt that why youtubers always need consent?? thanks for replyin

4:05 That has got to be one of the coolest interactions with the camera by a passer by in all of your videos AK. She doesn't make a big deal of it, she doesn't ignore you and she doesn't ham it up either but comes up with something better than a wave or cliche finger contortions. Excellent. :D

I could have gone to Cooper Union back in ‘97, only thing that held me back was my grades, they only took A students, I still kick my ass about that sometimes, PSA, stay in school kids, don’t let your dreams die

Don't know why, maybe it is because there was a very short but very real connection with the @4:03 girl that makes her the best part.

Is there any particular reason that most of the buildings have down stair entrances there?

    • @alexalex13131
      @alexalex13131 5 років тому

I'm guessing but perhaps because rents are cheaper in the basements.

    • @BradThePitts

The downstairs entrances in these row homes were half-level basement apartments for the servants. Almost all of these buildings were originally single family private residences. Many have been split up into apartments. These basement apartments are marketed as "Garden Apartments" and might be MORE expensive than a higher floor because you will probably get a little bit of backyard space. An amazing luxury in Manhattan!
