    Thank you, Dr. Barnard! I am a 61 year old post menopausal woman, originally from Detroit but having lived in Yokohama ( Japan) for the last 36 years. I eat a basic Japanese diet & did NOT have severe menopausal symptoms; only mild hot flashes. No moodiness. NOTHING. I eat a lot of soy every day: tofu, miso soup, natto any kind of dry /fresh soy beans & a lot of seaweed products. I feel GREAT!!!!!💖💚💛💜💙🐧

      @@catherinegoodman7735 fermented tofu is called "natto" here & natto looks like small brown beans. It is a soy product. And any kind of tofu is ok. I don't eat "fried" tofu b/c it is fried in vegetable oil ( look at the ingreients ) any kind of seaweed---the green stuff, purple looking stuff, white stuff is GREAT for one. Japanese are well known for eating a lot of different kinds of vegetables. we also eat the Korean pickles called "kimuchi" here.

    Dr. Barnard should be interviewed on The Today Show and Good Morning America regularly to inform the public of these fact based benefits of low fat whole food plant based dining! He is a national treasure who mainstream media should cover much more! Thanks 🙏 Google for bringing Dr. Barnard to Google Talks! As a person with North Dakota roots as well, it’s fun to see more fellow North Dakota folks in this presentation.

    I recently coined this phrase:
    There is a BIG difference between icecream and rice steamed!
    I turned vegan from vegetarian in Oct, 2021 after hearing doctor John McDougall's talk on utube
    I feel great after cutting out dairy and using less oil in my cooking.
    Your recommendations are so similar to John's.
    Kudos to you and to the other doctors spreading this vital message: Have a carb-based vegan diet

    • @colinmaharaj
      @colinmaharaj 2 роки тому

      Makes sense, remember you CANT under any circumstances reduce cholesterol, since ALL hormones starts with cholesterol. And there is no evidence that cholesterol clogs arteries. Oh, by the way LDL is not cholesterol, its a package that transports chemicals that do not mix in the blood, including cholesterol. The thing is LDL comes in different sizes, and if the LDL is tiny (carb based diet) it will stick in unhealed arteries, if the LDL is large (fats in the diet) it will not. Not confusing at all.

    • @monicasong427
      @monicasong427 2 роки тому +1

      @@colinmaharaj Consistent evidence from a variety of sources unequivocally establishes that bad LDL cholesterol causes atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, strokes, and heart attacks-our leading cause of death. This evidence base includes hundreds of studies involving millions of people. Cholesterol is the cause of atherosclerosis, the hardening of the arteries.
      Source: Low- density lipoprotein cause atherosclerotic cardiovascular
      disease. Evidence from genetic, epidemiologic, and clinical studies. A consensus statement from the European Atherosclerosis Society Consensus Panel.

    • @colinmaharaj
      @colinmaharaj 2 роки тому

      @@monicasong427 Once again, no one talks about different size LDL particles. The science has been updated decades ago. Lookup large buoyant LDL and small dense LDL, or look up density of LDL particles in the blood. LDL size determines its ability to clog, the smaller the LDL size particle, the greater chance of clogging. The larger, the less chance of clogging. The body makes small dense LDL from carbohydrates in the diet and large buoyant LDL from animal fats in the diets.
      Finally LDL is not a type of cholesterol, it's a type of protein called a lipoprotein. Cholesterol is a molecule not a particle, thus 'bad cholesterol' or 'good cholesterol' are non sensible wording. It's like saying good water and bad water. Water is a molecule, and cholesterol is a molecule. So no such thing as good or bad cholesterol. And the is no biological definition of bad or good, so stop using those words.

    • @monicasong427
      @monicasong427 2 роки тому +1

      @@colinmaharaj One had mentioned that "you can't under any circumstances reduce cholesterol, since all hormones start with cholesterol"---however, we can start by not consuming other animals since only animals produce hormones.
      It is important to understand that it is the livers of animals that make cholesterol. Thereby, cholesterol only comes from an animal.
      Lastly, light large buoyant LDL still significantly increases our risk of dying from our #1 killer. As the latest review on the subject concluded, LDL cholesterol has been clearly established as a causal agent in atherosclerosis, regardless of size.
      Study for reference: Dietary cholesterol from eggs increases the ratio of total cholesterol to high- density lipoprotein cholesterol in humans: a meta- analysis.

      I have MS and follow a programme, OMS, which includes a diet that is very low in sat fat. One of the things they advised us to restrict is avocados, because, for a vegetable, it is high in sat fat. They advised us that we could eat them , but that we should keep it down to about two a week.
      Oh yes, if you’re interested in lowering your sat fat you should probably avoid coconut products, as they are very high in sat fat. (Coconut water and sugar are fine.)

My dilemma however is I want to keep my fat at 20 and carbs no more than 100 - but in doing that I am at that level before dinner with 500 or more calories left for my day. What do I eat? If I may, I would highly recommend going to Barnard medical center even via telemedicine to speak with Dr. Neal Barnard and thousands of physicians and dieticians who actually study evidence based nutrition and medicine.
      Meanwhile, please make sure one is actually at an unhealthy weight by checking ones BMI. Additionally, please make sure one is getting adequate daily calories. Lastly, try to incorporate more nuts, seeds, legumes, and whole grains into one diet. Except for wheat, barley, and rye since it was shared that one has gluten sensitivity.
