i sat for APWD recruitment test yesterday, it had a question, "who is Volume Zero based on?" I was at a hostel designed by Charles Correa on the day of his death (J.S.Hall Hostel at Churchgate-Mumbai, J.J. waale yahin mil jaayenge. I spent 6months staying there along with them when Sir J.J. hostel at Bandra was closed due to structural damages. I appreciate the ways Charles made the hostel an interesting and functional livable quarter. the courtyard was the place where the inmates of the hostel organized functions and cricket matches. That courtyard is on the 1st floor...... Fortune Bay resort at Port Blair was my introduction to architecture, its half an hour from my home and exactly opposite to a friend's home.
This was a great documentary with wonderful cinematography. I'm an architecture enthusiast and found so many gems of wisdom and ideas that really can be employed in any field. I like his way of thinking and will be studying him more. Thank you.
His vision deeply rooted in India's tradition and architectural vernacularity, yet infused with a modern sensibility, is just MAGICAL. And now we have an idiot called Bimal Patel destroying the morphology of iconic cities like Beneras and New Delhi for his fascist master 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻 Charles Correa and Louis Kahn did architecture and Bimal Patel does construction/destruction. Period.
