The price alone is a big difference. The catch basket on the 51 is so more like we are used to seeing in North America. The 43 basket I have as an owner told Allett that they should offer a catch basket similar to the 51 as an accessory as this model has not changed in 6 years of production and it is outdated for our market since you know we have had these mesh catch baskets for years on gas mowers. They said it would take away from 51 sales which is silly.
Video is nicely done Clint!
Thanks brother. It was a fun one to make. I'm loving this machine!
I'm just about sold on this. I'm in my second season with my ryobi mower and hand tools. This is a great collaboration between Eco and allett. I'm getting one with 2 batteries.
Mention Clint and my channel when you speak to Roland or whoever through allett. They should give you a discount. If not message me here or on Instagram and i can help you out.
Great review! That Stirling is a sweet machine!
I wanted to come bring it to your house!
Finally! Great video
Hahah finally is right. Sorry it took so long! It won't happened again!
That 51 is one badass piece of engineering.....
Super nice machine Clint - very thoroughly done sir. 👍 Hard not to like the Sterling it’s a well designed feature packed unit!
J-man, it really is a nice machine. Every thing about it. It is pricey but all of these types of machines, especially battery powered are in a higher bracket. It is what it is unfortunately
Great to see British mowers being used in America 🇬🇧
It is a nice machine thats for sure!
Great review Clint. The Stirling 51 is definitely a better mower. I have already invested so much money on equipment and new landscaping that I am going to stick with what I have. My small channel doesn't generate any money and I will make it work lol. 😂 Striperman finds a way to still have a nice lawn. 😁
Honestly Keith, the liberty is an amazing machine and is perfect for my lawn. But I was able to sell a few things and save up to get this. There is no reason my tiny lawn needs this powerful of a machine!
The quick change cartridge on the Stirling is a game changer.
The liberty or petrol Kingston quick change is a pain removing that side panel, yeah I know first world problems, but being able to change the blade to scarifier in a second with no tools, it's perfect 👌
Oh and the metric system is all over the world but you Americans with your inches blows my mind, did you know only 3 countries use it officially, United States, Liberia, and Myanmar, it's kinda funny lol
I think its so much harder to understand although im hopeless with fractions, but I love it when Americans talk in 5ths and 8ths like it's nothing.
Blows my mind ....
Its funny how your taught as child impacts your way of thinking, don't you think...
Regards Marty...
Your comment is priceless my friends. These Americans and their fractions! I hear ya on the side panel. It's a pain but not really. But man are these things expensive. I feel though if you are going to get into this game of Reel mowing at this level you have to be willing to spend a little money.
Great review. I put my order in last week. Can’t wait for it to arrive. My neighbors have already been asking to purchase my JD and Swardman. That helped my justify the cost.
Heck ya! You are going to love it. What was wrong with the swardman?
@@TheNeighborDominator Nothing, just wanted to step up my game
Great one bud!! It is just too much of a price difference for the features. This one at 3k would be the best selling mower ever!
Ya I hear ya. But the cost of everything is up and also the competition is up there in that price range too. Swardmans, toros, etc that give a really nice cut and have cartridge features. If it was a McClain or Tru cut it would be cheaper but doesn't have the features. Plus those are not cheap either. Reel mowing just isn't cheap in general!
Thank for the very useful information. Do you have a suggestion for a very good thatcher?
I ordered one yesterday and all the reasons you outlined were a factor in making my purchase. I’m coming from a Kensington 20H but battery power is def the way of the future. That and the asymmetric layout of the Honda engine causing uneven cuts and the better build quality of the Stirling make me pull the plug.
Same with the setup on the liberty. It was an uneven cut for my bumpy lawn. I'm loving my Stirling-51!
great job
Thank you sir! I appreciate it!
Thanks for a great review! I own both mowers. The Liberty is a very good machine but the Sterling is a much high level machine. Clint nailed with this comparison. The Sterling beats the Liberty in every category. I have the Sterling 51. For me it was worth the extra cost. I already had the ego batteries that came with the blower , trimmer and edger. The thing I like about Allett is they listen to their customers. They
made all the changes to make the Sterling a fantastic mower.
You couldn't of said it any better brother. Allett listened and provided. It is definitely worth the money especially if you are an Allett fan!
@@stevea3200 I know the auto correct on my phone makes it switch to sterling. Had to reset that!
Sick!!! I’m super jealous 😅
It is an amazing machine. If you were in the area I'd say come on by and give it a go!
I mean 20 bucks is 20 bucks. Lmao 🤣
damn i want one so bad lol. you should do a giveaway specifically for people in the Grand Rapids area LOL. Great review my man
If my channel wasn't so dinky I would do a giveaway for the Liberty-43! One day!
Sterling is the way to go. Allett has taken lawn cutting to a new level. With the other machines out there they are the real deal, especially with the interchangeable cartridges.
They are definitely badass. It is pricey but you can eliminate a lot of Machines out of the garage. The cut is really nice too. I want to get a swardman though to use and compare the two. I have had the gm1000 but as far as a middle of the road battery reel I am curious🤔
A fantastic mower
It really is. It's almost not even a residential mower!
Awesome Review bro! About to pick up a Sterling myself in a couple weeks. Who sharpens your Blades?
Use TND99 or mention my Channel and it will get you 100$ off! Not much but it's something 🤷♀️ I have a little shop that back lapps for me and I have my local golf course sharpen my blades
20" width----what is ur widest reel "the model" (????) i love the interchangable cartridges😎
I have a swardman that is 22 inches in width as well. This is the Stirling 51 and is only 20
Is the drive either all on or can you feather the speed, the Swardman being belt driven I could slowly engage the drive when starting and slowing down.
Great Video I assume you sold the Toro Greensmaster 😁
No, you can adjust the speed and kind of feather it with the speed adjuster knob. You can't ease off the button that makes it go but it is very easy to go slow and speed up around objects (my telephone pole and flower bed). And yes, I unfortunately had to part with my gm1000. She was a beauty!
I was shocked to see the price in the us. NO WAY!!! I’ll keep my swardman
It is a pricey maxhine that is for sure
Great review! What is your grass blend?
I have 100% perennial rye and am now overseeding with kbg. I am not a fan of having it all one type. Kbg is still my favorite!
@@TheNeighborDominator That's what I was thinking. I have a rye/KBG blend and was wondering if a reel mower was worth the price. By the looks of your lawn I might take the plunge.
Great review and demo video. I have an old McLane mower and looking to upgrade to an electric style reel mower. At least once a year I come across a rock while mowing my lawn and it really ruins my day. I then have to take the mower to the shop to have the bed knife and reel sharpened. How do you go about sharpening the Stirling? Does it get sharpened like any other reel mower blade?
I have had my Liberty back lapped and a couple times. I also had ot professionally sharpened by a golf course. Allett said that most places that service John deer reels service alletts
Where are you located? I'm selling my Liberty 43!
I'm in SE California
Awesome. Can I get one am in Kenya.
I don't see why not. You would have to contact Allett from their website. Before they had dealers in the states they sent me a Liberty-43 from across the pond. Hit them up!
I want one just need to sell my arse under the bridge to pay for it lol
Hahaha they are badass. Just a joy to use
Six grand?!?! Not a chance in hell. Thanks for the review though.
Its more than that now. I know. Its a really nice mower and is probably a hell of a lot cheaper in the uk. I think its 7k with no battery!
Allett they certainly are the Rolls Royce of mowers
They are. It comes with a cost though! What are you using?
@The Neighbor Dominator a mini bosch Cooper which has a roller on the back lol
Where are u able to get the Allet reeels sharpened ?? Do they need sent to Allett ?
I had my local golf course do it for me. They did my Liberty but otherwise I have a guy that back laps the reel on the regular at this small lawnmower shop.
I want this so bad (especially since I currently use Ego).. but between the price and $400 for shipping I'm not sure if it will ever happen :( I figured they would have at least included shipping in that price tag :/
That is a big reason why I wanted it because I do have ego products. Only if it ran on toro batteries it would have been better!🤣 it is an expensive piece of machinery but man is it smooth.
@@TheNeighborDominator More than likely I'll get it.. going to try out my manual Fiskars first to see how I like reel mowing. I recently did a lawn reno and it is no where near perfect, but at what mowing height do you need to start worrying about how leveled your lawn is? I plan to keep my kbg around 1.5 or 2".. so not too short.
Is there a store in the USA to go look at them? Buyer beware?
I cannot be certain. I know there were dealers in N.C. not sure if there was a show room. Rumor has it they are opening a facility in texas. But that is all rumored. I wish I was a bigger help🥺
Hi, did you have any Problems with the Allett Stirling ? thanks for your Answer Kenneth from Germany
There was a support issue when i got it but they fixed it. Otherwise nothing out of the ordinary. Do you have one and have problems?
@@TheNeighborDominator ok thank you for your answer
I currently has the 43. I have an issue also with the grove it leaves in the grass and have to double cut to make even. Any suggestions on fixing that?? I don’t remember this happening when I fist bought?
Thanks new to the channel
Mine didn't seem to do it when i first got it either. To help fix it i created a weight to put on top the machine opposite side of where the gears and battery are. I put it in a box that had magnets and stuck it on there when i mowed. The 43 is not balanced properly. I thought it was thatch build up, taking to much off at once. It was not the case. I wonder if you got a grooved roller if it would help. I will try to find a video from a popular channel across the pond called perfect green. He fixed it!
ua-cam.com/video/feMEfs4q3ps/v-deo.html
Look at his allett. He has a weight on the opposite side. He also ended up getting a grooved roller. I think grooved rollers are a necessity when reel mowing. He ended up putting a circular weight with a ball bearing inside the drum. He tricked his 43 out. Thanks for your subscription by the way👊🏾🙏🙏
@@TheNeighborDominator thanks will check it out. Have a great day!
One more favor do you know how much weight to use to balance out??
Thanks
How tall the machine can raise up
The grass is too low if you were going to use it for cutting to regarding hot weather
Geez. I cant find where to buy one of these? Why is that?
Where are you located?
Ummmm ok it's official I want one.....buuuut I have a push mower a zero turn and a tractor....how the hell am I going to convince the wife for a reel mower?!?!?!
I don't think that is possible sir🤣 I sold my gm1000 and have this for sale. That was the only way I was allowed to get this!
That's great and all - but I feel like you didn't mention the biggest difference - Liberty costs half as much. $5000 for a residential reel mower is kinda insane. For all their slight upgrades I feel like their pricing is just trying to get the consumer to pay for their R&D on an already niche product. They should have put more effort into keeping costs to a level with an average consumer could even consider buying one. I have the Liberty and was only able to afford one due to extra cash from ebay flipping. And I'm upper middle class. Yes there are some things on the Stirling I would like but are they worth double? And also buying a new machine when I already have one? I feel like you probably got a good deal on the Allett due to your channel and otherwise probably wouldn't have purchased one right after the 43...
Brian my man! Hope all is well. I will agree that it is definitely more pricey than the allett 43. But they are totally different machines. I feel they are more solid, faster, and an overall better machine. Is it worth the price...I could of definitely continued on happy with my Liberty and saved the money. I had reasons why I wanted this machine. 1. It cuts my mowing time down significantly. 2. I like the cartridge system better (which is expensive for both machines). 3. I had many offers on my machine so it cut the cost down significantly because of the price increase of the Liberty-43. With my videos on my tiny channel I was able to get a "discount" because people used my affiliate code to buy their Liberty-43 over the past 2 seasons. My channel is the skid mark of grass youtube! But is it worth it? Personal preference. The liberty gets the job done the same it's just slower. It was kind of like turning in a lease. That is why I pulled the trigger on this beast. I always appreciate your honest comments my friend!
Also, what is a decked out swardman? I feel these are priced comparable to what is out there for residential mowing. Reel mowing machines are not cheap. There are cheaper brands but I feel going battery, this size, the options, it's comparable to an Electra for sure
If you need anyone to buy that Liberty off ya let me know lol
Where are you located? I am selling it
@@TheNeighborDominator If your willing to ship it. I'm located near St.Louis MO
@@TheNeighborDominator how much?
@@lxiong1077 I have the unit, 2 4ah batteries, charger, 6 blade, verticutter, brush, scarifier, stand to hold everything, compatible edger/weed Wacker combo that has to go with it. Roughly 4800 in stuff for 3200. 6 blade just got sharpened too, not back lapped.
Shoot me an email if you're serious! clint.tnd@gmail.com
The all new ALLEGO. Nice machine but hard to spend that kind of $$ on a mower that is made w/ 30/40% of Parts that are from a made in China $750 ego frame and electronics . That’s the hard to swallow part for me $4700 😳🤦🏼♂️😂
It is definitely pricey but when comparing to other battery powered reel mowered I feel it is comparable. It is a solid machine. Should almost be in a different class rather than the residential. I hear complaints about other battery powered reels and this thing is easy to use, balanced, quiet. But to have the whole cartridge system you have to be a die hard. I hear ya on the price though but man is this thing awesome.
Why are you flexing? We all know McLane is the king of the hill.
No flex. McClane is next to review. Trying to find someone that has one. Do you know anyone?
@@TheNeighborDominator Well there’s that Chuck fellow down in Tennessee, some doctor guy in Georgia. I know a guy with a Cam Trimmer if you ever want to review that.
Why don't you wear a pink jumper strapped over your shoulders, and then you can say I'm going sailing with my mower? WHO IN THERE RIGHT MIND WOULD PAY $15 THOUSAND OR 20 THOUSAND FOR A LAWN MOWER, oooh I know it's a tax scam .........................................
? This mower was a fraction of that when i bought it? I sold all my other mowers and saved up youtube money? I was the first to get this thing before all the price increases.
