funny thing is it had taken over twenty years to implement Palpatine new order into full fruition, and only 6 years for it to begin unraveling.
Well including his time as a senator it took 40 years to completely dissolve the senate. And if we want to speculate we can even go further than that and say that the Sith had been planning this for a while, possibly hundreds of years.
It began to unravel the moment the Death Star was destroyed. He was banking on the ability to destroy planets in the blink of an eye to be able to terrify planets into remaining loyal, as well as proving his willingness to deploy it against ANY planet regardless of its strategic and material value to the Empire.
After the destruction of the Death Star, the destruction of Alderaan was no longer an example of the Empire's resolve and a warning to those who would rebel against it, it was now the prime example of the Empires atrocities and a rallying cry to all those who could stand against it. He struck it down, and it became as powerful as he had imagined... but he never imagined that this power would be taken from and used against him so quickly.

Comrade2261 You know the Empire is completely corrupted and Palpatine participated in the corruption of the Senate to make himself powerful without the resistance of the senators, the only non-corrupted senators were the ones like Amidala, Organa etc who confronted Palpatine and his regime. In fact, the Empire is founded on the corruption of the Senate and Republic.

It took Emperor Palpatine about 19 years to dissolve the Senate. The original Kenner action figure (Return of the Jedi series) referred to him as ‘Senator Palpatine’ which was interesting since he hadn’t been a senator in the 20 plus years that preceded Episode VI.
What if padme didn't get pregnant?
A very interesting thought. If this is going along with the idea that everything in the prequels happened the same except Padme's pregnancy , it is really hard to say. Part of the reason Anakin turned to the darkside was to keep his premonitions of Padme dying in childbirth from coming to pass. I guess the question I have for you is , would Anakin still receive premonitions of Padme dying but in different circumstances? It really hinges on this question. I feel that if the premonitions never happened, Anakin himself might have approached the situation of Sidious revealing himself differently. He wouldn't have been as desperate to gain his knowledge because he would have no reason to worry for Padme's life. However, and this is where the story in my mind could take a really dark turn. What if Anakin still had the premonitions, only this time it was with the knowledge that only Padme herself would die? I think things would play out pretty much the same as in Episode III .... only the kicker is that after Padme dies, there is no Luke and Leia. No New Hope , no nothing. Vader and Sidious are in charge after Vader was essentially tricked into destroying everything he loved to save Padme and Padme only, not Padme and her unborn children. If anything I think this would only make Vader more of a monster. The reason Vader was able to be redeemed is because
1. He knew the Emperor had lied to him when he found out Luke was alive
2. Having family, having a son meant a lot to Vader ... more than he ever would have let on.
3. Luke was a good person and Luke CAME from Anakin. When Vader found out about Luke, I think he was able to forgive himself somewhat and know that he couldn't be all evil if he was able to produce as good a person as Luke.
Dont get me wrong, there was ALWAYS good in Vader, but it took the right impetus for him to realize that. Without this impetus I believe he would have succumbed to the darkness.
The other interesting thought that Ive come to learn over years of reading the EU, is that the romance between Anakin and Padme was a thing that was somewhat planned by Palpatine. Palpatine is not only the one whom I think got Amidala involved in politics in the first place but also the person who assigned Obi Wan and Anakin to protect Padme after the attempts on her life at the beginning of Episode II. Whether or not Palpatine knew what would happen, was lucky, or only had a bit of a gut feeling is unknown to me, but it does seem to be more than coincidence. I think Palpatine KNEW that Anakin had feelings for Padme after his adventure with her as a kid in Episode I and engineered a situation in which they would have the opportunity to pursue these feelings later on. Regardless of the outcome Palpatine would have nothing to lose and when they did inevitably become a couple ... it only gave Palpatine more leverage against Anakin in the future.

Not sure if this is a topic to be discuss in a video, but can you do one on how long did Obi-wan knew padme was pregnant? Or already aware that anakin and padme were on a relationship?
I think Obi Wan knew something was going on for quite awhile. He just chose not to press any further about it and hope for the best. People forget that Obi Wan also had misgivings about the Jedi council, he just wasn't as vocal about it as Anakin (as seen in ROTS).

I'd question if this were how Emperor Palpatine technically wiped out himself, because he is the Senate, but given these reasons here, I can kinda see why that's not exactly the case. LOL

Also those Jedi wouldn't have known about Kenobi, and Yoda. Most thought that they were the last of the jedi, and were so disconnected from the other survivors that they had no choice but to go into hiding.
This has always been a source of contention in the canon. I personally think it makes more sense that a few jedi survived Order 66, by a few I mean maybe maybe 30-40 Jedi/Apprentices collectively. We must remember that the Jedi Order was a tens of thousands strong during their height. Even with the degree that Sidious and Vader eradicated the Jedi when you are dealing with numbers that big , there are going to be people that slip through the cracks. This is why the assertion that the original movies make which seem to be that Obi Wan and Yoda alone are the only 2 Jedi left by the time Episode IV rolls around just bothers me. Rome was not sacked in a day, and neither would an order that had been flourishing for a millennia. The galaxy is simply too big. This is also why Episode VII had me in a fit of rage ... the pressed the reset button so that once again their are no Jedi. The original trilogy gets a pass I guess if only because they were written so long ago. One of the things I loved about the EU is that there were Jedi who survived Order 66 , went into hiding, and eventually joined Lukes New Jedi Order following the defeat of the Empire. Alas, these stories will never come to be after Episode VII essentially changed the entire nature of the post ROTJ canon.
