David W just because he got mick who seems a much better instructor than bob. I like how they hide the fact by saying they changed instructors due to "busy schedules" haha.
I Watched this November last year before I started Driving school & I am now a month in to driving all manner of Buses independently. So watching it again after I could get the emotions & stress levels they were under.
Mickey Welch is a very good instructor. He took me out a few years ago, when I went to Arriva from National Express coaches. (Good company) he had the respect to treat me like a 52 year old man and the professionalism to tell me what I need to do different. Started there, done my training day was sent to garage. On that particular Monday I had to take my wife to hospital as an emergency case as she had a fluid leak from her brain. I didn't get an ounce of sympathy from my garage manger. That finished before it started. I think it is a brutal industry considering all of the responsibilities that you have. I actually like the job though if not Arriva. Maybe I caught the on an off day, there are some good people there including Micky
The driving assessment in the van is not only to check your driving skills, it is also there to check your listening and learning skills. If you can't listen to the instructor and learn from what they say, you will never get through.
Mickey Welsh is a great instructor. Calm, assured and with a personality that can put trainees at ease, yet still getting the message across. No disrespect to Bob but I really don’t think Alvin would have got to his test and passed had he remained his instructor.
15:00, I did the same when I first experienced Air Brakes in a Fire Engine whilst on an experience day where you pay to drive busses, trucks and coaches and stuff round private yards.
When I went for my driving assessment for buses 10 years ago the company I work for had an old beat up Mercedes minibus they used for training, it was a brute to drive! Certainly showed if you were any good lol
Paulo Gianolio and honestly, law degree?? But she struggles... sooo my point is that every job is not cut out for everyone... I drive a bus here in Vegas, but didn’t finish college...there is a job for everybody, but driving a bus is waaaay different.
Hope you done it, its really not bad at all, i don't know why some companies do separate Double Decker training, apart from the height and weight there is no difference from other buses, as long as you take this into account you are sorted, good luck
@@bobwalsh3751 It really is an exilliarating experience. I passed by bus driving test about a year and four months ago. Started on the single deck buses, and now drive the double deckers. They are so much fun to drive . Once you get used to the size and dimensions of the bus, it feels like driving a car.
Been doing this over a month now in Ireland didn't have to do the white van stuff unlike uk hopped straight into a single decker biggest struggle initially then after around 2 weeks got the hang of it all and getting better. Well prepared for time I get into a double deck with the shorter wheel base hopefully
Hello, from 2020 just a quick heads up. This year is full of bullsh** and there’s a virus called COVID-19 that’s ruining everything. Brace yourselves, chaps! And about this show, I love it lol! I’m currently working on getting my CDL (commercial driver’s license) to drive 18 wheelers and I must say that driving a 35k lbs vehicle is no joke! I hope in this year 2020 these brothers and sisters are doing well in their careers!
Muy bueno la verdad hay que tener los nervios de acero y estar muy tranquilo, soy conductor cobrador de bus urbano hace nueve años en Punta del Este, Uruguay si sabre. Un abrazo desde aquí.
We bus drivers are invisible... nobody , NOBODY wants to be stuck behind a bus or truck, or anything that might hinder their ability to get to where they’re going to be five minutes late.
Do these examiners not realise that by going up the curb is showing initiative by the trainees as they are taking shortcuts which will help them keep to their schedule.
StealthElectronVIP no. She gave it up because apparently bus driving offers flexibility. Which is the BS I'm referring too. It's anything but! You're social life basically dies. The rotas are NOT family friendly at all! No way would bus driving hours be less un sociable than a lawyer. That's why bus driving has such a high turnover rate. They never stop recruiting because they lose staff as fast as they recruit. If the awful hours won't get you. The passengers will. Or other road users. Or controllers. Or management...the list of folk out to get you is endless tbh
In England, if the company passes you then you become a bus driver? There's no Commercial Driver License like here in the US where you have to pass the government test?
The company train you, The examiner is employed by the company but is a trained DVLA (the UK equivalent of the DMV you have in the US) examiner so he has to be impartial, So he cannot pass drivers because he has to be sure that person is safe.. While I was being trained a driver failed within the first 5 mins of the test because he hit a cone during the reverse maneuver which was sad because he was so nervous before the test... Bus drivers are required to have driver qualification card which is taken during training.. So this is what the driver as to do to be a qualified bus driver in the UK a medical a theory test which is a multiple choice of 100 questions which you need 92 out of 100 to pass and pass video test called the hazard perception if you fail one you have to take both again.... CPC module 2 50 questions, This goes toward to your Driver Qualification card Around 30 hours of driving the actual bus with a 15 hours progress check CPC module 4 show and tell me section.. You have go around the bus and answer a set random questions given by a instructor, You have physically walk around the bus and inside depend on what he ask you.. Then once you pass them and you pass the progress check you are then put forward for the practical test which last 90 mins, first part is taken off road in the garage where you have to reverse the bus in to marked bay at an angle without crossing a marked line and without hitting any cones and you allowed one shunt to correct yourself if needed... Once you pass that you are then taken on the road, With a 45 mins guided drive with tight turns and every day traffic and bus stop procedures and you must demonstrate clear use of the mirrors on the vehicle and a 15 min free drive, IE the examiner tells you where to go and you must follow the roads signs and he doesn't give you any direction.
what are some things i should know before the training give me some examples and some people that have experience driving ? So they can give me more info ?
Advice ? Don't be 'cocky' ( i.e.arrogant ) and don't worry about nerves - we ALL have them ! i passed my PCV first time, and can honestly say i enjoy driving bigger vehicles far more than cars - they are usually easier (in my opinion) so YOU need to enjoy what you are doing - driving should be enjoyable as well as serious. And more importantly, take pride in driving WELL !
me too, passed it first time, and surprised. @drrobotnikmeanbeanma it requires constant safe driving, and high tolerance with other motorists who are anti-bus
Misplaced Kiwi The driver has a display on his dashboard, which includes a bell symbol that lights up when a passengers presses the stop bell. He ahould have also heard the ding...
Seems lazy and clumsy for them only to provide the instructor with a handbrake. Mine had a full footbrake which allowed for gentle use of the endurance brake to demonstrate an approach to junctions and apply a slightly less sudden stop in the event of a possible collision. It oversimplifies things to put a handbrake in place of a service brake.
Good instructor that Mickey Welsh, not arrogant, and down to earth.
He is and the Indian guy as well
"only friends you got on the road out here are other bus drivers"
True. The rest are a bunch of horn-happy muppets.

Becuz thats how they pronounce it lol.
Because they're cockneys.

alvins face when he passed!!!🥺♥️
bran it was so cute I wanted to hug him
8:40 the way you can hear the other guys on the bus laughing 😂😂
