Lynchburg Blue Ridge Parkway KOA Review

- The Lynchburg Blue Ridge Parkway KOA is in a perfect location for hiking, fishing, city life, and history. The KOA is located about 15 miles from Lynchburg, VA and 1 mile from an entrance to the Blue RIdge Parkway. We spent time hiking, exploring Lynchburg, and touring Appomattox Court House National Historic Park. It is a well laid out park that gives you peace and quiet even when the park is crowded. We enjoyed it as part of our KOA campground tours of Virginia.

Interesting note from a retired history teacher: A man named Wilbur McLean owned a farm in Manassas, Virginia and tensions between the states had increased knowing that Civil War was escalating. The first battle of the Civil War in Virginia was fought on his farm property in what we now call the First Battle at Manassas or the First Battle of Bull Run. McLean was so horrified by the deaths so close to his home, he sold the property and moved his family far away to a quiet place called Appomattox Courthouse. It was so ironic that the war both started on his property and ended on his property, even though he moved about 90 miles to avoid it. His home was "borrowed" by the army to sign the surrender papers in his front parlor. His life was further ruined by the war, because the soldiers and others took pieces of his property...even the desk on which the surrender was signed... as a remembrance of the war and their historic part in the ending of the war. I have never been there, but recognized it immediately in your video. Thanks for bringing us along! Y'all are always great! Jane in SC❤️
Thanks for sharing, Jane. You should make it to the location at some point. You would really enjoy seeing the history. It is interesting because we have been to both sites and the one is Manassas does not really talk about the war beginning and ending on his property, but it is a large part of the literature at Appomattox Court House. It is really terrible that they took items from his house. In fact, what is even worse, is that the house was disassembled to be rebuilt in Washington DC, but they ended up rebuilding it in the same location as it was before they took it apart. That gentleman had some bad luck.

Thanks, Terry. All of our dogs have been rescues/adoptions. It is a tough life for them in a shelter even if it is a no kill shelter. No way for an animal to live.

I find KOA's can be a little crammed (spots are really close to each other) but this one looked sooooo much better. It's nice having that sense of separation. Great looking spot!! Welcome Toby!

We love Toby and the Arctic Fox. I imagine they are great service dogs because he seems to be loyal. He has a lot of energy though. Keeps us from sitting on out butts for too long. He was a cattle herding dog and was at the humane society for killing a goat, so lucky for us :) 2-3 years goes by fast.

We have been looking at the AF fifth wheel but are hesitant about the height. Have you had any problems with trees or branches rubbing up against your rig? Thanks for your videos!!
Not really trees, but we have had two instances of hitting low wires in campgrounds. One was caught before it hit the AC unit and the park came out with a ladder and lifted it. The other took out our antenna. These were really not because of the height of the fifth wheel. It was really due to poor maintenance in the campground. We returned to one of them and had no problems.
