I was using Dawn at first and nothing was happening. I found your video and promptly purchased some castile soap. It appeared like nothing was happening, and I was about to purchase some neem oil, when I decided to look closer at my pepper plant. They were all dried up on the leaves/flowers so it definitely does work. Thank you very much for your wonderful video!

Neem oil smells wonderful _to me_ 😁
I use it weekly - 1 Tablespoon to 1 Gallon with about 1.5 Teaspoons of Castille liquid. My tip to anyone reading: spray EVERYTHING including surrounding weeds, volunteers and flower leaves... if you don't pests and diseases will cause enough problems in the surroundings to affect your "maintained" plants.

Great video Tony!! There are two types of soaps, “detergents”, which encapsulate dirt/grime to remove it and “surfactants”, which break down cell walls. We want the latter to fight these little devils. Like you said Castile soap made from olive oil and lye solution is a great surfactant, all natural and possibly humanity’s greatest achievement…

Another thumbs up for organic neem oil....had aphids on cucumbers and it wiped them out in a few days.I did just one drop of detergent to help it emulsify better. If it seems thick in the bottle, the temperature may be low so hold the bottle under a warm tap (it is also decent insect repellent for gardeners) 👍

I use castille soap too and my dozen or so tomato plants are looking good as well as the veggies in a large raised bed, built on a large pallet about 3 and a half feet off the ground so the wild rabbits can't reach it, and corn salad(the veggie) growing rampant all over! A family friend told me how to prepare the leaves, which I have done. Wash the leaves, place in blender with water, then pour in big containers ( I recycled two laundry detergent bottles, gave them a good clean first) add water and leave to soak, as I used some, I added back water, I also dilute it as the smell, it is very strong. I had leaf boers (learned about those from watching YT) have sprayed all over the leaves and I have seen less activity, also saw the ants with aphids under a plant leaf, once I sprayed the activity was reduced. Staying away from pesticides. Also keep a book to keep records.of when I spray the garden.

    Good advice Tony.
The reason not to apply soap solution during the day (via a sprayer) is that the water evaporates too quickly so the solution loses its effectiveness. Spraying during the day causing foliar damage is one of the 5 common gardening urban myths.
I love SB Plant Invigorator and I use neem oil too. Made a mistake and bought a 5L of neem oil but it was semi-solid so I have to microwave it before mixing in the sprayer.

I'm an absolute beginner to gardening but am determined to take it up.
I have had a real problem on my yellow zucchini with some sort of disease I guess? It's turned some of my leaves on the plant a white/brown filmy dead looking dry dead leaf. I have no idea what is wrong as I'm just starting and would be very grateful for any advice before I use one of these methods and it's not the right thing, before I do something wrong. Do I need to throw out the soil if my plant gets a disease?
Also if I use these methods like the soap and oil, what do I do when I want to eat it? Will the soap or oil have an impact on eating it? Or is there a special way to wash the plants??

I've sometimes used Savon Noire, Black Soap for aphids on roses. I'm reluctant to use it very often as I don't know if it, or any of the other remedies you mention are harmful to the beneficial insects, such as the ladybirds and lacewings. Any thoughts on this aspect? I have noticed this year that there have been much greater numbers of greenfly from early season, but a corresponding high number of ladybird and their larvae. I'm hoping nature does the job for me.

White fly can be partially. Eradicated by using fly papers...sticky papers that glue the flutes to the paper spiral! Not a total solution but a pretty passive one that helps!

Hi not being rude or trying to cause problems but I have stopped using the fly papers especially the the yellow ones a lot of people use in their greenhouses The reason being is they also kill a lot of good insects like bees ect It never seems logical to me to encourage bees and other helpful insects to pollinate our crops only to kill them with these fly strips ect Pete

Hi Toni, I find you have a good materials in your episods and I have some questions for an expert like you if you can help as I ask many other from the states and I got only few answers.
Q1: Can you share your experience and/or solutions with ROOT APHIDS ?
Q2: What do u think of Benificial Nematodes?
Hope I gave you new topic for upcoming episodes.
    Thanks and regards

Ramy check out my slug videos I use nematodes in them and swear by them.root aphids are a pain, anything infested like pots and things should be destroyed. avoid bringing in shop bought compost.and use the SB plant invigorator or neem in this video and this should deal with them

@@simplifygardening Thanks for your fast respond and YES, I watched your slug video ,got your point.
What is the SB plant ?
I got root aphids in my worm pin. Do you recomend neem oil or neem cake to deal with them??
What do u think about Diatomaceous earth ?? Or/and crushed Lime Dolomite?? Do you think it could kill/control them in my worm pin?
Keeping into consideration I am not really infested with them maybe coz I am spraying them every week once with Neem oil but I wanna get rid of them

I use the water hose & sprayer, hand picking, neem oil, soaps, beneficial nematodes & DE in my garden & all containers and pots. I also companion plant very densely with perenial/bi-annual herbs = lots of herbs and edible flowers, everywhere! I keep the garden floor clean, remove all plant matter & dont stack things up anywhere where bugs can hide. I also rake very aggressively and intentionally disturb the garden floor 3 or 4 times a year to expose critters and spray the floor with neem oil and the base and sides of all my raised beds and pots! The herbs and flowers I eat and they attract beneficial bugs and keep them in my garden and they do their job of pretty much eliminating the majority of pests before they damage anything! Another benefit of the flowers and herbs in the garden is the beauty, color, texture and amazing aroma they add, it's a winning combination! I've read alot of testimonials where people say companion planting isnt effective, I disagree! There is absolutely no fault, when introducing food, in the way of herbs and flowers for beneficial insects! These statements are false! Happy Gardening
