I got about 200 pages into Den of Vipers before having to admit defeat because it was just so cringey! They were all strutting around with constant hard-ons in front of everyone with no shame and it gave me the "ick" so much too 🤣 I also got so tired of reading how everyone "snarled" practically every time they spoke 😅
I'm reading Mercedes Lackey's Arrow's Trilogy. I'm really loving it. I would recommend it to you. Very character driven, kinda like Robin Hobb's writing. It's apart of a huuuuge series. It also has a magical school.
There are sexier historical romances out there, but medium heat tends to work as a good middle ground for the “sex sells” industry and the prudy pearl clutchers! If you want to try again, try Nicola Davidson. I’m not one for erotic myself typically, but I love her books! She writes multiple partners, queer couples, BDSM, etc. I also really like Jess Michaels...hers aren’t as “out there,” but they’re pretty hot! And there’s Scarlett Peckham’s Charlotte Street series, which is about a sex club, and those (especially book one) have BDSM.
Pretty sure Mark Lawrence was accused of some gross misconduct against women last year. Jay Kristoff has been called out for the harmful rep in Stormdancer (Asian culture appropriation) and in Nevernight (Maori peoples). Just so you're aware when you're recommending this books to people.
Did not like Den of vipers either. Not only was it problematic as f.., but it was hella boring. There was no plot whatsoever and it was all over the place. Dnf'ed it

I'm very interested in the Buffy novel. I also love Buffy but the remake of it sounds amazing. Also really interested in Rat Queens!
I hope you love Buffy if you pick it up!
I had the same issues with fighting destiny. But I kinda see the potential for it being an interesting series. I might give the next 2 books a try 😅😅
Haha it's weird how it's not great but we're still willing to continue 😂

Okay but the cover of the midnight queen is so pretty... that sucks it wasn’t good

This Is How You Win The Time War is clever but it annoys me how its supposed to be a " cool" book to read & LOVE.
