great to hear they will be taking on the Drummond T9 also. That engine needs some attention and would look great to see it back in Southern Olive green. My congratulations to the 563 team and their supporters to bringing back a legend of early railways.
Not afraid to admit that when the crew of 31806 gave her a whistle as she left I did get a tad emotional 😄 Superb video or a wonderful event. What an incredible achievement, and hats off to everyone who made it possible.
.... and heartfelt thanks to the postwar Southern's team at Eastleigh, who collectively managed to not quite understand the management's intention to get this old beauty just about able to limp to Waterloo and back to the scrapheap, instead doing a top job on the chassis before they were rumbled, thus laying the groundwork for this superb restoration !!! Glorious .... simply glorious. Congratulations to the entire team, to the Swanage Railway Trust and let's not forget thanks to the NRM.
A wonderful film with a glorious engine and lovely guest speakers. Thank you also for the subtitles, without them I don’t think I could have listened to the speeches. Cheers and may God indeed bless the T3 for many years to come. Well done to everyone involved.
Well done SR for providing those Maunsell coaches in the consist - these could well be authentic as they would be old enough to have been pulled by 563 when she was in service. Always slightly disappointed if I get to ride behind a historic steam engine and then find myself in a Mark 1 coach with those ghastly fluorescent light fittings.
Absolutely - the T3s worked on the line between the wars so it could well have been an authentic recreation of a journey 80-90 years ago! And those coaches are also more comfortable than modern ones!
Wonderful presentation and filming by “The Southerner”, thanks, and congratulations to all involved at the magnificent Swanage Railway 😊 Looking forward to travelling behind 563 at the end of the month 😊
I’m so so pleased to see the T3 in service. In 2017 once the engine was transferred. I was so pleased to see the possibility that the locomotive could return to steam. Fast forward to this weekend, I sadly wasn’t able to attend due to my own Railway volunteering commitments. But I would like to say I was there in spirit. I look forward to coming back to Swanage in the new year to see & ride behind 563. A huge round of applause to the 563 Loco group, you will no doubt inspire more museum engines to return.
Thanks for a great record of the day's events. You've got better sound quality on the speeches than some people got on the platform! Anthony Coulls made a particular impression. And of course it's great to see the shots of the engine actually hauling a passenger train for the first time for 78 years (at least!). Superb lineside shots as always.
Glad you enjoyed the video, Ian! Very much luck rather the judgement with the speeches. Had a brief panic over the tightly packed platform, and actually trying to get a view of the speakers.
@@TheSouthernerYTChannel Thanks very much, it's really good to have. I have actually added it as a link on the T3 Wikipedia page. Hope that is OK with you?
What a beautiful machine, a credit to all those involved in bringing her back to steam and the period detailed costumes were impressive too right down to the two kids just "down from the chimney".
The best decision the NRM has ever made this beautiful locomotive would still be sat in the museum thankfully she been aloud to steam again pulling trains she was built to do
Would have loved if UA-cam had given me a notification for this! What an amazing locomotive! the 563 Trust is rightfully very proud! Thank you for catching the speeches as well! What a day indeed!
This is the future, not another spamcan or five. Antony Coulls made the right decision as did the rest of you, now I and everyone else can enjoy a real and true treasure from the best days of the railways in Britain, not trapped in a museum gallery and without any missing pieces namely the fire and boiling water. I am so proud of all of you and I cannot wait to see this beautiful locomotive alive and steaming in person.
Another lovely video well done great camera work as usual I am really looking forward to seeing your next video I hope you get a nice video next time also when is your next video going to be on UA-cam bye for now Philip
Admittedly a nice idea, but a quality repainting job doesn't come cheaply or quickly (and some would consider such a repaint tantamount to heresy anyway 😂)
A "QUICKY" REPAIR FOR A SHORT TERM IN SERVICE ??? Why is the cab front made of thin wood ??? As seen at 6:09 - 6:13. I suspect that this loco has been given only a short term "ticket" so may only see a season or two in use, as the boiler barrel may be near to life expiry, before it has to go back into the NRM !!!!
The cab is metal. But as per LSWR livery under Dugald Drummond as depicted here, locomotives cab interiors were painted in a grained Pine. When the overhaul of this locomotive has been so well publicised and transparent, and so publicly documented, such an unfounded claim seems particularly foolish.
The scumbling on the inside of the cab was obviously a good idea, if it's that convincing! I have to say I'm not sure that at times during the six-year, over half-a-million pound overhaul that it really felt like a 'quickie repair'. Much of the work that has been done will last a couple of boiler tickets, let alone a couple of years.
You clearly and absolutely seem to have not one clue what you are on about. The overhaul/restoration has been comprehensive and the 563 group in conjunction with the Flour Mill workshops and Herston works staff deserve the highest praise for their work. Perhaps do your research before making such unfounded and dense comments.
Lovely touch with the pressure gauges having the company’s letters on them !.The loco is the Mona Lisa on wheels !

Had a real 'Titfield Thunderbolt' feel to it. Absolutely wonderful.
@@class37thrash It did indeed
What a beautiful locomotive.
Yes
That's what I thought when I first saw it at the NRM 40 years ago. Wonderful to have it actually running again!

What a great day. That’s really put a smile on my face. As said below she is a beautiful loco.

If you want to see her in action earlier, she's running during half term week every day from 21 to 29 October.

130 years old, and looking like a brand new locomotive

Agreed, but many people (myself included) like the Bulleids
@@brianbunn3604 Seconded. The Bulleids have done sterling service for the Swanage Railway.
I dont dislike them but we need more love for the pregrouping stuff and the antiques that the curators love to hoard away.@@brianbunn3604
I do hope this restoration opens everyone's mind to what can be achieved by putting other locomotives back to running condition
Excellent video, and a stunning engine, restored beautifully. The emerald green, and the signwriting is lovely. Well done to all involved.
Would love to see the loco visit the Severn Valley Railway
Fantastic to see her in steam nice shots
Well done. Glad I can see and hear it on video.
She's beautiful when she runs
She is a beautiful train can't wait to film it on the 28th. Really hope we get a mode of it oo scale. Hope it go to different steam gala.
That green steamer looks gorgeous 🥰🥰🥰
Brilliant video of a beautiful loco! And I can't be the only one that laughed at Andrew at 22:08, can I?
Thanks very much
He was the subject of some very choice remarks afterwards by a few people.

The Flour Mill isn’t in Devon it’s in the Forest of Dean
Corrected
Nice video :)
Cheers
Sometimes I just wanna see an old steam engine actually running
17:40 bro looks like sir thopham hat
I hope they won't mind if i skipped the speeches 😶
maybe the two maunsell coaches could be painted in salmon and choclate LSWR livery, not authentic but ok for a short time?
