They are hysterical. I just watched the Hawaii episode, and poor Jack is sitting there alone with no laias, and Rochester comes in after having been toast-of-the-town at a banquet.
Rochester driving the Maxwell... Those were the days! And the reason that the gas station attendant sounds like a cross between Bugs Bunny and Porky Pig is because he's Mel Blanc, the famous voice of so many cartoon characters.
@rj zander Actually, Jack Benny treated everyone who worked on the show terrifically. He was one of the most well-loved people in the business. Eddie Anderson, who played Rochester, was given full rights to the character, and Ebony Magazine listed him as the 2nd richest African-American in the United States.

What made me laugh MY butt off is when Rochester started that old Maxwell and how it ran. My father had a 1970 Chevy and by the 1980's it ran just like that Maxwell! 😂🤣The neighbors used to make fun of it just like people made fun of Benny's car!
One..........two..........three................................................................TEN! 😂🤣 Rochester starting that old Maxwell reminds me of my father starting his old 1970 Chevrolet Nova! They both ran the same way! 😂
Jack benny is one of the funniest comedians there ever was. His show is one of the best ever in history. I just discovered benny I always just thought he's old and probably not that good I have missed out on years of watching him. I was a teenager of 15yrs.old when he passed away so I never gave him a chance by just watching him not even one time. I missed out so now I'm trying to catch up. Although the Rochester character may seem a bit stereotyped to modern viewers, he's actually generally smarter and more attached to reality than his boss, Benny, and this is made plain if you watch several episodes of the TV show or listen to the radio program. Rochester often makes jokes at Benny's expense or otherwise deflates his ego.
@@johnzeszut3170 Rochester was actually a very advanced character for the time. It's very much like a Bertie Wooster/Jeeves situation, where Jeeves happens to be black. The servant is the more clever one of the pair.

First gas I bought was 23/gal (1959). The funny gas station man is the great Mel Blanc. You could not make this today -- why? Because the parrot was abused and goes into a panic. As for funny stuff at all today, just a bunch of endless sarcastic one-liners.
Three great talents. Mel also did the voice of Maxwell, the car. Thanks for the videos!!! 📺📺📺
This is funnier than anything on TV in the last 20 years.
I love the banter between Jack Benny and Eddie "Rochester"Anderson. There are a riot!

I know it's kinda off topic but do anyone know of a good site to watch newly released series online ?
Rochester and Mel Blanc. Mel Blanc was likely the busiest man in television for 25 years.
Rochester, Polly, and MEL BLANC!
And the next time you pass this gas station please do. Lol funny line.
Classic - and Mel Blanc did the Maxwell engine noise and the parrot talking - and his own voice!

Jack had that a droll style that brought the house down. He didn't need profanity nor crude humor.
I finally see them outside with the classic raggedy Maxwell
I started laughing the second I saw Jack and Rochester drive up in the Maxwell. What kind of Sad Sack would give this a thumbs down?

Mel Blanc. A treasure. "We locked bumpers with a Greyhound bus!" This is comedy.
A true legend

even the bird was holding on
My grandfather and I loved watching the episode that featured this clip.
The newest cars driven in the background are a 1955 Plymouth and 1955 Chrysler. A 1923 Maxwell was ancient by that time.

Thanks for sharing this great clip.
Mel Blanc hell yeah
That car is in better shape then that I always thought it was.
I wonder if that old Maxwell has been preserved.
and...great to see a Jag.
I can’t remember where I saw it originally, but there was a great joke about Rochester “getting a flat tire” that I’d like to see again someday.
Same dozen cars keep passing by. I would say this was filmed at Universal or Desilu back lot.
I think they were at Republic in 1954
It was shot at Republic Studio where Revue Prods. filmed until their move and MCA take over of Universal
That is one Jalopy there!🤣
Mel Blanc was a great actor
Poor Polly.....bouncing around in the back seat.
"Whaddaya want, gas or music?"
Lol!

$2.80 for 10 gallons of gas ... I was expecting Jack to complain
Imagine if he put Ethyl in... it would have been $3.45
He would freak out with today's gas prices..
