I have a key lock on my pantry. People saying "my kids know better" or "just tell them no" are the same ones whose kids have secret online accounts because they are such awesome parents and their kids are perfect. Kids are kids, they eat, they sneak and eat...all the time!! You are awesome. Only online would people criticize a mom who makes her own bread, cooks every day and still say she is terrible parent for locking a pantry. Stop mom shaming...ugh.
I really had to laugh when Shaylee was sitting on that toilet paper in Costco and you said "do you feel like a queen on your throne?" because here in the UK 'throne' is a slang word for a toilet! 🚽
+She's in her apron: I hear you sister! I have 4 boys and its eat eat eat all the time, yet when we are camping they only come asking for food at mealtimes, not all day. They are never bored at camping, I'm convinced the "I'm hungry" cry at home is translation for "I'm bored"!
I had to lock the fridge to keep my son from drinking medicine, mostly antibiotics, that belonged to the younger girls. Thankfully he grew out of it. Locking the fridge made me realise the other food that was disappearing that wasn't supposed to. We do what we must to look after our kids. I want the doll house and the bear. The sky is gorgeous. I want everyone to have a fabulous Christmas!
My grandaughter used to drink a lot of Gatorade and it caused her to develop irritable bowel syndrome. The pediatrician said lots of kids get it and that gartorade is horrible for little tummies.
I figured that was what that lock was for! With 5 kids in the house I totally understand where you are coming from I go shopping and 2 hours later the pantry is half empty again. I seriously need to follow in your foot steps and get a lock on mine!
Honestly it makes so much sense to have the pantry locked!! When I was a kid I would eat snacks all the time and ruin my dinner. I think it helps with teaching your kids proper eating! Eat fruit or veggies over granola bars! Love it!!!
At the beginning, it would be sooooo nice if dishes worked that way. My friend also has a lock, didn't really understand, so thanks for explaining. Have a great day and weekend!!!!
I grew up on the BRAT diet, and always used it for my kids. I also add canned peaches, and cheerios to their sick tummy diet. The peach juice helps vomiting, and when they are feeling better, they can eat the peaches. I also made your Mississippi chicken for dinner last night. I don't even bother to defrost the meat anymore. Turns out great every time.
Kim, no explanation needed, you're a great mother and that lock for the pantry and food room is the best idea ever. I'm totally putting one on my Christmas list (muahahahaha)
Kids are like puppies if it's there they are going to eat it and will continue till they make themselves sick and they do eat out of boredom ...we can all see your kids are fed very well and you are just trying to have some control over the groceries ...my three would go thru 24 packets of crisps in an hour if I didn't monitor them ...having a lock is a brilliant idea to keep them away from constant snacking plus good for their health ...3 good meals a day couple of snacks plus fruit and plenty of activity = healthy kids your doing a great job ...the kitchen is looking good too can't wait for the reveal xxx
yes yes yes love your idea of the lock on the food places....I have 3 kids myself (14,11and 9) and I have the same freaking problem too with them eating us out of house and home lol the struggle is real
Kitchen looks so good! And I totally feel ya, Kimmy! We also have to lock our pantry and refrigerators or else we run the risk of feeding a horde of bored kids who are then too stuffed to eat the dinner I've made.
When you mentioned your quiet microwave it reminded me of an article I saw somewhere probably 20 or 30 years ago. SOMEONE invented a totally quiet vacuum cleaner but because it made no noise people thought it was not working properly and such a small number of them sold that they were discontinued. Hard to believe, isn't it?
YES! Love the locks. I have 5 kids...4 of which are teens, and the food FLIES out...literally FLIES! We used to buy about 50 Yoplait yogurts/week on Friday. By Tuesday, it was all gone. Now I love that they like healthy food, but that's just crazy! Stopped buying it :(
We don’t have any foster kids atm but we have taken care of foster kids in the past and we don’t restrict eating at our house since a lot of them have been starved in previous homes. You’re a great mother and I am loving all your videos. You motivate me and are so inspiring. My husband and I are planning on having kids of our own and I’m so excited to find your channel.
I have 4 kids, 3 teenagers. We have a pantry "room" and put a new doorknob on that locks with a key. I also had to put a lock on our second refrigerator in the garage. I pull snacks for the day and put them in the "snack" drawer in the kitchen fridge, and we have a dry goods snack basket on the the counter. I fill them up while I'm packing lunches in the morning. I drop them off at school and don't get back from work until 8pm. I even had to take my hubby's pantry key because he was giving the kids the key and letting them get whatever they wanted after dinner (that I cook on the weekends and freeze for him to give them dinner). The kids ate $64 in snacks, juice, and gatorade one day and that's when I locked everything up and took the keys!
I once was so frazzled getting kids ready for school that I forgot to put on a bra and went to work. I had to fake an emergency to run home to change!!!!
I was seeing a psychiatrist once- who went home for a change of socks when he realized he had two different socks on (according to his coworkers). Apparently, he had bad OCD. My husband jokes that I avoided an OCD diagnosis by having a doctor who is worse than me.
We had locks on our doors too because our kids would just eat everything, it's a good idea and I wouldn't feel bad about it either, in fact I didn't feel bad about it as their diet was better in the long run.
I am so glad to see you have a lock too. I have 3 kids and we have a lock on our pantry and our garahe fridge and freezer. If we didnt I would never have any food.
I am also putting a lock on our pantry bc we couldn't figure out why our 7 year old was putting on weight, nothing was fitting him so when we deep cleaned his room we found so many wrappers on the side of his bed!!! OMGosh!! the horror!! I was so upset that I didn't do a better job at monitoring and after our lil talk with him he said he'd ask permission but then I caught him sneaking in it again so it's time for the lock. Like you, we have 4 kids and I have PLENTY of healthy fruits and veggies for them. So no, I don't feel sorry for them, it's for their health.
being board does make you wanna eat. i keep all our snacks and stuff in my desk and file cabinet so the kids have to ask or it would all be gone in a few days
I keep a lock on my food room too ;) My son has Autism and I need to keep my extras secure but whatever is in my pantry he is welcome to. Sometimes we moms need to do what we need to do :)
I love your freezer organization! I'm the same way ...AND your excitement of being in Costco' s....its like a kid in the candy store, right? Your daughter even loves it😍
He is cute! I seriously can't get enough of your videos. All week I have been trying some of your recipes and let me tell you, they have been a hit with my family. Thank you so much for sharing your life with us!
trust me you're not the only mom running around town with no bra on LOL! I'm definitely in that club. but I love how honest and open you are about it makes me feel so much more normal so thanks for that!
I so need a lock on my pantry door and a few other places. We have 7 kids and the teens usually sneak snacks but now the little ones have started too also.
Soooo glad I'm. It the only one that locks things, I lock my fridge and cupboard! My friend here think I'm crazy but hello I'm. It feeding them 24:7 OR the. Neighborhood kids TOO!!!😣
I never wondered about the lock. We didn't have a pantry when the kids were pre- and teens so we locked a spare room and used that for pantry items that I wanted to keep away from free-ranging kids. And we have a lock on the outside freezer as well. My mother always used the BRAT diet when my sister and I had tummy troubles and I used it on my kids too.
Oh my gosh! We had to put locks on the fridge. Next are the cabinets. It's pretty much the same process you are talking about -- they can have a snack but if I give them free range it's gone in about 2 days! I have been so frustrated and it is refreshing to know we are not the only ones going through this too!!!!
omg i thought we were the only ones who locked cabniets and fridges because of kids wanting to eat everything in sight i have 4 kids and they can eat all day long if we dont keep our eyes on them and it can get expensive and they are bad for getring into ingredients that are meant for reciepes its so frustrating
I am so glad to hear someone else has to lock up the food! We just built a food room and told the kids that they have their snack bin but they need to stay out of the storage room. I am always seeing the oldest go in their and want to get food! The door we have on there doesnt have a lock but we need to get one!! You cant tell that you dont have a bra on when you have a hoodie! That is the wonderful thing about hoodies!!! lol
BEST way to soften butter- cut into some cubes, fill a glass with HOT water, let sit for a min, then dump out and cover the butter with the hot glass. The residual heat softens the butter without messing with the texture and melting like the microwave does unevenly! Thanks Kimmy :)
woman!! I have been checking every day for this kitchen reveal! Can't wait to see it! It looks so bright in there! Also, jealous of your locks! My kids are TERRIBLE with boredom and snacking. I feel your pain!
I can't wait for the reveal!!!! On another note, I made the freezer sandwiches putting butter on both pieces of bread and the mayo in the middle of the meat and cheese but one side always ends up soggy when they thaw. Any tips???
Good idea taking your little pre-Christmas shopping, mama! My mom used to do the same thing :-) Now I do the same thing. She had so much fun jumping on that bear! I think that's so great.
my kids are like yours! Currently the 3yr old thinks she can climb around in our pantry and get snacks...even though I'm OBVIOUSLY in the middle of making dinner lol I'm thinking that lock might be a good idea. Lol my husband grew up with 11 siblings and had locks on their pantry as well! Nutty lol
I lived in the BRAT diet throughout my morning sickness!!
Wow that lock really stirs people up! LOL. I don't think the kids are starving LOL
I figured that was what that lock was for! With 5 kids in the house I totally understand where you are coming from I go shopping and 2 hours later the pantry is half empty again. I seriously need to follow in your foot steps and get a lock on mine!

Traci Perdue I think Kimmy should do a tutorial to show us how to do that ( unless, of course, she's secretly related to Mary Poppins) !!!
I grew up on the BRAT diet, and always used it for my kids. I also add canned peaches, and cheerios to their sick tummy diet. The peach juice helps vomiting, and when they are feeling better, they can eat the peaches. I also made your Mississippi chicken for dinner last night. I bought a safe and lock up devices in it at 8:00 ! BEST thing ever! No more fighting or sneaking!

Bazzilgirl --I forgot my bra once too. But I just let them be free. It was quite liberating actually.
Bazzilgirl oh no boob sweat
i gotta keep the girls contained 😆
I love the fridge idea in the laundry room.
Don't feel bad Kimmy, what you said it s so true, kids want to eat ALL the time!!

Can you show us all 0f the Halloween decorations when you get them all up?
I so need a lock on my pantry door and a few other places. We have 7 kids and the teens usually sneak snacks but now the little ones have started too also.
Soooo glad I'm. It the only one that locks things, I lock my fridge and cupboard! My friend here think I'm crazy but hello I'm. It feeding them 24:7 OR the. Neighborhood kids TOO!!!😣
I'm so getting that lock when we redo our kitchen! we have the same problem!
what kind of lock is that on your pantry door? we need one!

I just love you! You have a great personality, and it's refreshing that you keep it real.
A good probiotic or kombucha would help with the tummy problems.
Last years xmas video was the funniest I had ever seen...the expressions on the kids faces was priceless....
Oh my gosh! We had to put locks on the fridge. Next are the cabinets. It's pretty much the same process you are talking about -- they can have a snack but if I give them free range it's gone in about 2 days! That's genius!! Love it !!! Garage disposal kids lol 😂
Omg that's genius I'm definitely getting a lock for my pantry
I agree totally. I would tell my stepson's the same thing. You are not hungry you're bored!
omg i thought we were the only ones who locked cabniets and fridges because of kids wanting to eat everything in sight i have 4 kids and they can eat all day long if we dont keep our eyes on them and it can get expensive and they are bad for getring into ingredients that are meant for reciepes its so frustrating

Robin Lepage great tip. Thanks!!!
I love your locks, wish I had a pantry to lock, I have to hide stuff!
Any tips???
Loved Shaylee diving onto that huge bear in Costco. I'd have wanted to do the same thing. lol :)
Bras are torture devises!
Did not mean to post here. Sorry..😜😜
How I wish I could put a lock on ours!! Even with three and one on the way it crazy I feel like we go through food like crazy
have you posted missippi chicken recipe?
Good idea taking your little pre-Christmas shopping, mama! My mom used to do the same thing :-) Now I do the same thing. She had so much fun jumping on that bear! I think that's so great.
Love your organization and freezer meals
brilliant idea about the lock! I had to put one of those child proof door knob things on ours. Lol
No, bra - I totally get it! I like to be "free" around the house, but if someone pops by, it's a mad dash to put one on. Gotta keep 'em contained. :)
Your videos inspire me so much!!!!! I just adore you 😊
Love your channel so much!! Found it a couple weeks ago and you are now one of my favorite youtubers!!
Do you have a link to the Mississippi Chicken recipe?
my kids are like yours! Currently the 3yr old thinks she can climb around in our pantry and get snacks...even though I'm OBVIOUSLY in the middle of making dinner lol I'm thinking that lock might be a good idea. All the good snacks I don't mind them having is always available and reachable. Fruit, dried fruit, water always available. We pack lunches too and the two younger ones thinking oooo just my size lol Even though it's not for them.
I hear you!! I have four teen boys and they clean me out of food. Where do you get the locks??
I watched the Grinch video now. So fun! Your videos are so entertaining! As I am a quite new subscriber, I watch some of your old videos if there's nothing on TV in the evening.
I need to lock myself out of the pantry. LOL. Carbs=
😂😂😂
I need to do the same thing. I'm the one that has a problem can't stay out of the pantry hahah
HAHAHAHA! Love it!
I definitely need to as well hahaha
LOL me too!!!!
I love your phone holder idea while doing the dishes! Where did you get it and is it any good?
I had no idea you could freeze sandwiches! That's awesome! I love that!!
I loved the grinch thing last christmas, it was fun knowing another family was like us. We actually decorate our tree in grinch colors each year, and watch the movie. We make grinch cookies so he doesnt steal our tree. maybe you can do that this year. We take chocolate chip cookie dough and color it green with food coloring and bake the cookies for the grinch. We leave a plate of grinch cookies out and he's not stolen our tree or presents because we let him know we and jesus love him. (his heart grows!!) Its just the most fun tradition we have.
I'm curious if you watch any other homemaker, organizing, cleaning, cooking type videos and if you wouldn't mind recommending some
Channels?
LindsayandLucas oh so many, HowJenDoesIt is wonderful for cleaning she also does cooking. A Young Mum and ClutterBug are also great channels. I love watching AmandaMuse, Lydia Senn, Clean My Space and Jordan Page from FunCheaporFree.
I can't believe I forgot Hilary from mysocalledhome she's probably one of my favorite YTers. She's amazing oh and more for food; Everyday Food, Domestic Geek, Food Wishes and Entertaining with Beth are top tier. Hope this helps and doesn't overwhelm you!
Hi Kimmie! is there an electrical problem with your oven - I don't think the oven time deal should shake and flicker like that.
What is a fly lady mentor and how do I get one? I'm on day four but I need some help!
I love the locks. . kids can eat and eat and eat...
Didn't realize putting a lock on the pantry was a common thing, until reading the comments. I have four boys and I don't mind all the snacking as long as they eat come dinner time! I was raised with 6 siblings and we all ate non stop after school and then dinner. The snacking doesn't bother me. Growing kids!! *BUT there might come a day sooooo I better not judge! :)
I let them snack- but I fixed them not eating dinner by doing dinner immediately after they come home from
school. Then, the snacking is more mild. I do hide snacks I want for the lunch boxes.
Bridgett Zaidi I think cost can be a issue.
we personally lock out our kids, they listen great for everything, but LOVE to push boundaries. Next thing I know all of my chocolate almonds were eaten up :( it's more selfish on my end LOL.
i need a door to lock my lil guy isnt little anymore 8yro gained 18lbs since October ive gotten rid of snax that were meant to be for special treats only maybe a couple times a week.
well after a few weeks of grocery trips i notice foods disappearing he was sneaking and snacking
so i change my shopping list
seeds, nuts, dried fruit, make my own granola bars & yogurt, but he still gained
hes been continuing to increase what hes eating with winter and declining activity levels its been UNHEALTHY for him to sneak & snack
i respectfully disagree with unlimited snacking
unless ur activity levels are on par with what u put into ur mouth we really should monitor closely how much our kiddos eat we could be giving them the painful burden of a weight struggle & were moms here which one of us doesnt have this struggle & now could we still really rationalize unlimited snacking
GO KIMMY LUV UR LOCKS 💜
Hiding the chocolate milk, LOL, I have 6 children ,I can definitely relate.😊
Noooo... Dry toast... No butter.
Where did you get the little chocolate milks at??
i need one too my little boy sneaks snack and hides it in hes room yea i wont feel bad either
Here in Hawaii hydroflasks are a way of life, everyone has one. We love them!
lol!! "You're board and thirsty"
Hope Boston is feeling better :) You and Deric are just too cute!
Ahh, Shaylee is so sweet! Hope Santa brings her wish list this year and the Grinch gets buried in a mountain of snow! Tfs.
I'm one of four kids. About to have my fourth. Our pantry has had a lock on it since the kids could open it :)
