We will never have enough Graupner and Fasch...their compositions exhibit gems of the 'drop what you are doing, listen' caliber ...Graupner and Fasch, teacher and pupil.
Amazing how beautiful wood and strings can be made to sound! I'm curious about the overhand bow hold by the bass violist. A player more native to cello? Such fine playing by all, this ensemble is heavenly!!
I first discovered Herr Graupner whilst browsing through various MSS kept at the Darmstadt archive. Telemann’s works were copied out by Graupner as the copies tell us. Quite why this took place is still shrouded in mystery. I gather he must have been too busy to attend to much of this undertaking. Towards the end of his life, he became blind and the copying out work ceased. Telemann succeeded him by a further 7 years. He ( Graupner ) is not a well established name on concert programmes in England, which is a shame as he has much to offer.
