This is totally awesome. The explanations are so clear and interesting and unique to you. The variety of ways to comp in triple is so much fun. This UA-cam is a real WIN!!! Thank you
This definitely helped thank you (I'm a little late to this party)! This seems to match the "Swing" section of your book pretty well, I don't know why I thought it would be more complicated! TBH I'm a totally unskilled / lightly practiced player. Came to this vid trying, at this time of year, trying to try out some jazzier "holiday" tunes - especially "Silver Bells". I feel like this tune strongly suggests the 3/4 waltz -- and I have something playable (thanks!) I'm still having difficulty making it "swing" and sound rich. Any recommendations with this more classical / old style of 3/4? Maybe it's not meant to be swung? I think I'm also struggling with figuring out the bass/treble spread with this tune exactly. I may have missed it in the book, but at what point should one bring up the bass octave-range when the melody note goes a little too high? (I'm playing out of 'The Real Christmas Song Book in Eb" btw). Should I try to play more chord notes with the melody in the upper register, or leave it all to the middle range with the left hand rhythm chords and just playing a high melody note on top?
Hey Jim! It sounds like you're making good progress! I'm to sure I can help you with these specific questions in this format. I'd recommend finding a local teacher and running your arrangement by them. Good luck!
Wow, that thinking in 12/8 was a really amazing trick. Love all the comping rhythm stuff, I feel like it's undertalked about. Thanks Jeremy.
Yes, my Eastman professor, harold Danko, taught me to do that and it really stuck with me.
That 12/8 thing really solved the main problem for me! Thanks!
That's awesome. You can thank the great Harold Danko for that suggestion!

Oh good! I'm glad it's helpful for you!
