Just found this band today, always amazes me that bands like Shiner and Failure can make such great music and still be so unknown
i think alot of it is marketing. Another big factor is bands like this and failure don't appeal to most people. I'll admit i didn't like shiner or failure on the first listen, it takes a few listens to get into them, i feel like alot of people don't give these bands that chance hence their obscurity within the scene. It all feeds into each other, unconventional doesn't always sell so marketing teams don't put as much effort into these guys, and then obvisouly insuffcient marketing leads to lack of exposure. Unfortunately, alot of great bands will stay largely unnoticed or appreciated simply due to lack of paitence from listeners.
They chose to be independent. There was great shame in the industry back in the 90s to sell out to major label and all it's advantages. I saw these guys and dozens more play dives and open mic nights in kcmo back in high school. All were every bit as good as anything on the radio.
Shiner's Secret Weapon is Paul. So secret, he doesn't even Exist......the bass slides at the end of Low Hanging Fruit are just crushing.

The bridge feels like dawn, as it builds and builds if feels like sunlight teasing over the horizon, then as the last chorus kicks in its like the sunlight finally breaks in the distance and floods the view with dazzling and blinding light. Fucking exceptional songwriting

Yeah this melodically probably the best I've heard from them. And I was definitely a fan...so weird I stumbled upon this. I hadn't thought of them since I was 14 and the egg came out. Just relistened to that, was still good, but I think I actually like this better. Better songwriting it feels like. Guitar tone is great too

Awesome! In 2020 I caught Covid, broke my ankle, lost most of my income, and I gritted my teeth as the worst president in the history of our nation continued to not surprise me with just how bad a human being he is on daily basis. SHINER however, came through with a slab of beautiful prime heavy art rock. It’s not a complete wash. I look forward to seeing you guys out Seattle way in 2021. Stay healthy!

Was this produced post-quarantine, abiding by social distancing and mask recommendations? It almost seems it...
Hi David - I wrote the script in February. The video was shot in one day in early March before quarantine. We did however social distance and use hand sanitizer during the whole shoot. Our makeup team used N-95 masks since they were so close to the band. Most shoots are like a family get together - the C-19 definitely made the shoot a little on the strange side.

I think you're missing the metaphor. Shiner is a band that's back from a 20 year hiatus. Not unlike pulling your dusty old marionettes out of the closet and working out the kinks.
