With due respect to all, Kanchi Mutt's contribution to sanathana dharma is phenomenal. Today there are many veda patashalas in south India imparting vedic knowledge to hundreds of students. Many elderly veda pundits are looked after by Kanchi mutt. Kanchi mutt takes lot of effort in veda samrakshanam. And the entire credit for the initiative of veda samrakshanam goes to shri H.H. Mahaperiyava. Subsequently, Shri H.H. Jayendra Saraswati Swamikal also had done commendable work in the field of jeeva karuna activities. All hindus must salute Shri Jayendra Saraswati Swamigal for his tireless efforts for uplifting sanathana dharma. I personally feel he did not get his due recognition till he left his mortal body. H H Mahaperiyava was Lord Shiva himself. Sri H H Jayendra Saraswati swamigal was a great saint of Bharatha.

In stopping hindu brethren belonging to scheduled caste/tribe converting to Islam. He patiently heard their problems, arranged funds to renovate temples and for nitya puja etc..Perhaps, he did not get much support from the orthodoxy. yes, it is time all Shankara mutts take initiative to teach veda to other communities. Kanchi mutt & Sringeri mutt should spearhead this movement. Plus, efforts must be made to translate many of the sanskrit Bhakti literature into local languages.

Everyone forgot that acharya stated documented facts and that kanchi is not geographically among the cardinal mutts. But one should not forget that as Adi shankaracharya reached Kailasa, he was presented with 5 and not four sphatika lingas by parameshwara himself along with soundaryalahiri and shivanandalahiri. As the acharya established the four peethams to propagate sanatana dharma and protect vedas he finally took samadhi in kanchipuram, which is one of the 7 moksha puris, not to forget this is after his second visit to the himalayas. It is here that the 5th linga is worshipped as chandramouleeswara. And as for his position, he has replied with the authority and dignity of his position. So people should not even cast doubt on kanchi's authenticity or on HH's reply.
Adiguru Shankaracharya established 4 peeth and made his 4 desciples head of those peeth and Shankaracharya himself become the head of Kanchi peeth on returning and established Kanchi peeth

Correctly said. Shri Adishankara placed the Sri chakram in Kanchi before leaving for Kedarnath. The line of paramacharyas else would not be possible.

Kanchi Mutt was established first when Shri Adishankara before his ascent back to Kailasa , came to Kanchipuram to stall the power flowing in ferocity from Shri Kamakshi Amman. He established the Shri Chakram there before his ascent to Kedarnath. Definitely you haven't read any literature including the Vivekachudamani written by him. It's just frustrating to see Bharatiyas clearly *NOT* having an iota of knowledge on their own culture.

But overall the shankaracharya traditions are rather rigid from what I see in videos..but I guess thats what being orthodox is about.

Kanchi Mutt has been present since a long time and also has equivalent descent of Gurus as other mutts. People must read "Deivathin Kural" atleast once in their lifetimes. Don't mistak me, I belong to a family associated with Sringeri Peetham and all gurus from Shri Sacchidananda Shivabhinava Narasimha Bharati till Shri Mahasannidhanam have stayed at our house in Palakkad. It is Shri Chandrasekhara Bharati himself (who was contemporary of Shri Chandrasekhara Saraswati - MahaPeriyava) who told that "we are equals" ( they are the same ).

Both Sringeri mutt version of "Shankara Digvijayam" and the very well researched version from Ramakrishna Mutt by the great Swami Tapasyananda, both records that Pūjya Śri Āchāryāl did visit "kanchi".
Pls chk Ch-15: verse 1 -23. Quoting just the main verse.
अभिपूज्य स तत्र रामनाथं सह पाण्ड्यैः स्ववशे विधाय चोलान् ।
द्रविडांश्च ततो जगाम काञ्चीं नगरीं हस्तिगिरेनितम्बकाञ्चीम् ।।
the words "काञ्चीं नगरीं" - 'in the city of kanchi' is very clear. Further verses also deals with His deeds abt establishing vishnu & shiva kanchi temples & tantric way of worship etc.
Also, More surprisingly, there is one more text not widely known, but very authentic since the text was written by one 'Kasi lakshma shastri' called "Guru Vamsa kāvya". He was a pundit in the court of Śrī Sacchidānanda Bhāratī swāmi of Śringeri mutt(1705-1741).
Though this book's content has many controversies against the traditional records of Āchārya, but beyond confusion, it too records Ādi Śhankarāchārya's Kanchi visit.
Chk Ch-3, Sloka 26-40. Quoting just the main verse.
सुरेश्वराचार्य सरस्वती त्वं संपूजयन्नास्व चिरादिहेति ।
दत्त्वाभ्यनुज्ञां विनताय तस्मै शिष्यैः समस्तैः स जगाम काञ्चीम् ॥
Hope it clears the doubt.
Also, beyond all these controversies, our intention should be 'Not to shatter the traditional faith of people, and their respect for their achāryas (Mahaperiyava)'. This should be cared most. This is the spirit of our sanatana dharma.
And that too with great sages like 'Mahaperiyava', who lived and inspired renewed life and spirituality into this modern-confused-age.

I have heard that Kanchi mutt was a subsidiary mutt to Sringeri. Sringeri was the head mutt and kanchi mutt was functioning under it for many years. Going by the history of acharyas of Kanchi mutt, it must have been a very old branch of Sringeri mutt and was incharge of the Kamakshi temple. there is no doubt that Adi Shankaracharaya visited this temple town. he himself installed the Sri Chakra in the garbhagruha of the kamakshi temple. Later on, maybe in the 16th-17th century, the kanchi mutt (maybe due to the support of the contemporary kings) broke apart from Sringeri mutt and proclaimed itself to be one of the main mutts established by shankarachaya himself. It could have been established by Shankara..may be...but he never made it one of the main mutts that he established as part of the chaturamnaya system to protect Sanatana Dharma.
There is really no doubt about the mahatva of great acharyas who adorned the kanchi peetam, Mahaperiyava being the most popular acharya. Such is the greatness of Adi Shankaracharya and his sankalpa that all the four peetams and their branches have been adorned by extremely competent and great sannyasins. The four Shankaracharyas have unanimously concluded that Shankaracharya left his physical body in kedarnath and not in Kanchi as claimed by the Kanchi mutt. Hence i think Kanchi mutt is a great, popular and powerful branch mutt(now and then) but not one of the main mutts. No Doubt about its great service towards veda poshana and also to the general public welfare.

Srimad Jagadguru Aadishankaracharya established chathuramnaya peetaas in four directions...But Sri Kanchi kaamakoti peetam is the central part of all peetams... Actually in our vedas clearly mentioned that Kaanchipuram is the bellybutton of Our country and also it is capital of whole world...nd it is also considered as the Lalitha devi's swayamvyastha kshetram...So Aadishankaracharya established Kanchi kaamakoti peetam... And all the 4 Jagadgurus unanimously have arrived at the consensus that Kanchi mutt is not a moola amnaya mutt and that Adi Shankaracharya never took samadhi there....i don't understand why ppl want to make it one of the main mutts...it already has a glorious history and also wonderful lineage of acharyas...

Lets say, in your lifetime, you built 4 houses, and named them, you would have to stay somewhere to get the job done.... That place is Kanchi Math, where Adi Sankara Swamiji stayed and preached and chose his successors while he also established equally wonderful peeths in 4 other places.
And what is the proof for this being the first Peeth.
Nothing.
Which other Math accepts that Kanchi is the Supremo Math.
Again, the answer is none.

Have nothing against Kanchi Math personally and we do not shy away from the great services the Math has done and are doing for Sanatana Dharma and Vedic revival. There are 4 Vedas and 4 Mathas. End of story. All else is just rhetoric.

@@manidr Yes, looking in the mirror, can confidently and without blemish repeat what i said before. And just to clarify, you were also not there to comment first hand :). As i said earlier, i take nothing away from the Kanchi Math and my utmost respects to the sages of the Peeth. Ultimately, they are Sanyasins and worthy of worship. But just this point is what i contend - that this is the Moolamnaya math. There was a case that the Kanchi Math lost against Sringeri which was debated precisely on these lines.
So the point should be, how does the Math say it is the Moolamnaya. Adi Shankaracharya's text Mathamnaya Mahanushasanam does not mention Kanchi at all. So how is this being put forth is all i ask.

With due respects to sankaraacharya peetam need to look into Over 400 Dalits in Coimbatore converted to Islam because of discrimination based on their caste we all need to remember how Adi sankaraacarya showed us when he came across so called "chandala"stood in his way and how he treated him if we want sanatana dharma to be protected our sankara guru peetams need to actively go to these areas and people and take care of their woes of being so called and and treated as lowly"Dalits" and prevent discrimination and bring them back to hindu fold with dignity and respect they claim that they were not allowed to enter into the temples

some people even dispute the point of presenting authorship of madhaveeya shankara digvijaya to vidyaranya swamikal and say that it was written in 16th century.
The point is not of which shankara digvijaya is true, but is that how politics between people has simultaniously lead to people disrigarding other mutts.
I have stated, some shankara digvijayas were written by shankara's friends and disciples. some have stated that the madhaviya shankara digvijaya is not uniform, some verses are missing and not fitting in chandas due to later editions and deletions.
Even early sringeri publications mention kanchi peetham.
Also, how do people respond to the fact that Adi Shankara brought 5 sphatika lingas from Kailash and placed the yoga chandramoulishwara lingam in Kanchipuram. Just asking. even famous Sringeri devotees who are strong proponents of chaturamnaya theory accept this. one example is Bangarayya sharma of Jagadguru tv.

Sri Adhi Sankaracharya was stayed in Kachi Math only. From there he started going to North. After coming back only he established four Maths, hence Kanchi Matt is the oldest And head of all.

There was an incident involving Jayendra Saraswati Swami, the previous Acharya of the Puri Mutt. A Bengali devotee had donated a piece of land in the coastal area of Odisha to the Kanchi Mutt. However, the Acharya of the Puri Mutt asked Jayendra Saraswati Swami to give up the land. He questioned Jayendra Saraswati Swami, suggesting that he was trying to compete with the Govardhan Math, and declared that he would not allow any structure to be built by the Kanchi Mutt in Odisha.
Out of respect for the elder Acharya of the Govardhan Math, Jayendra Saraswati Swami agreed to relinquish the land. Subsequently, officials from the Govardhan Mutt visited the Kanchi Mutt to formalize the transfer. The officials from the Kanchi Mutt requested a letter stating that the land was being given to the Govardhan Mutt by Kanchi mutt
Upon hearing this request, the Acharya of the Puri Mutt decided they no longer needed the land.

Mathamnayam was itself written in the 19th century by some chaturamnayam fans. it litrally does not match the writing style of adi shankara. In mathamnayam, ther are curses for people who try to worship gurus of other amnaya peeths rather than their guru. Do you think, shankara who we call as jagadguru lokacharya would curse people just because the went to another mutt. Nonsense. Also, moolamnaya doesn't mean the kanchi mutt is greater than other mutts, but means that this is the mutt of the person who is the moolam of all the mutts, therefore it is moolamnayam.

Many illustrious saints have occupied the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham and there are historical and other evidences to prove this.
This is not a simplistic answer as the matter is one of the most debated ones amongst Sankarite institutions and Swami Nischalanandji did not bring glory to himself by this slapshot response..
In any case all these mathas these days are not places of glory or guidance for true seekers. They have outlived their utility and now it is just politics, money and property.

Sir, you haven't probably paid attention to the question and the answer. Swami ji has not said that the sanyasins of Kanchi are inauthentic. He has said that Adi Shankaracharya himself never declared Kanchi as one of his peeth. Swami Nishchalanada Saraswati is the 145th Acharya from Adi Shankaracharya in the tradition of Padmpadacharya. Do we have any such lineage data for the current Acharya of Kanchi? The 4 peeth are still centres for seekers; just that the seekers have dwindled who can benefit from such authentic tradition. God realised masters have come in various places including Kanchi; however, Shankaracharya is a position to exercise control over the spiritual and political leadership so that they continue to be aligned with Sanatan Dharma.

The present Kanchi Acharya Sri Vijeyendra Saraswati is the 70th Peetathipathi, Sri Jayendra Saraswati the 69th Peetathipathi and the famous Kanchi Mahaswami Sri Chandrasekharendra saraswati was the 68th Peetathipathi. Kanchi mutt was established by Aadhi Shankara himself and the first successor Aacharya of Sringeri Mutt Sri Suregwaracharya was the care taker of Kanchi mutt also as a seven year old Brahmachary was initiated as the successor to Aadhi Shankara in Kanchi. It must be noted that a very famous Advaitha sain Sri Sadhsiva Brahamendrar was initiated to Sanyasa Dharma by the 57th Acharya of Kanchi mutt named Sri Paramasivendra Saraswati. The 32nd Acharya of Sringeri Sri Narasimha Bharathi broke the protocol custom of not visiting an samadhi of a sanyasi not belonging to Sringeri mutt. Both the mutts have been pillars of protecting the Sanadhana dharma when compared to other mutts established by Aadhi Shankara in Puri, Jyothirlutt near Badrinath and Dwarka. The Acharayas of both Sringeri and Kanchi mutts are well versed in the Advaitha Vedanta propounded by Sri Aadhi Shankara.

My view based on observations on the statements of the earlier pontiff of sringeri (prior to the present senior) - based on the scriptures on devi upasana, sri kanchi Kamakshi - kamakoti peet....
Unfortunately the mutts play very low *loukik* ...unable to accept the status of sri kanchi.. in wisdom and upasana and saakta dharsan and vaidik "chandramouli swara upasana" none at par with Sri kanchi mutt. The reason i don't want to text.
Still i respect all other 4 acharyas as sanyasin being the head of our traditional mutts.

A tamil or a kannadika or telugu or any can be the acharya after initiation on the basis of the quality, unlike the others where a particular linguistic community is chosen.
Maha periyava - poirvas'rama was kannada and the next was a tamil and the current respected since his baala parva (He is addressed as sri baala Periyava - ( initiated at his age of 12 by Mahaswami).
It is unfortunate that a section is lacking integrity which is not expected of the head of such s rich heritage.
