- Fans upset Greg Capullo isn't illustrating the new ongoing Wolverine series with Saldin Ahmed received great news. Comic book legends Greg Capullo and Jonathan Hickman are teaming up to tackle Marvel's premiere mutant hero. Wolverine Revenge debuts in August and features Wolverine fighting dinosaurs and villains. It's not all great news, as this is another project Marvel are using for interior variant pages. Wes breaks down the exciting news of Greg Capullo and Jonathan Hickman working together. Hickman is one of the few good Marvel writers. Him and Jed McKay. We thought Zdarsky was a good writer, but he revealed his true quality in the meantime.
We got about 3 years of Capullo left. Wolverine revenge, new capullo art book, creech 3, and I believe a how to draw book, then he's riding off into the sunset.

I was gonna be done after the Wolverine vs Deadpool miniseries finishes (I've been reading Wolverine: Sabretooth War and Wolverine: Madripoor Nights) but I'll definitely check this out.

I once had a mixed opinion of Capullo’s art inflated by a competent inker. But Capullo’s Wolverine looks like I’m staring at Wolverine ripped right out of the ‘92 Cartoon. It looks really great and I will eat my crow dinner now.

I'm glad to have some hope for a Wolverine story. I've been rereading Larry Hama and Marc Silvestri's run on Wolverine, and nothing in the last 3 decades has come close to it. Fingers crossed

He has stated that he prefers to do miniseries than regular books and try to get as many as possible characters from now, so is great to have a great artist still doing the best as at what he does!!
Given this is a mini series, so will not drag or replace the creative team overnight, I may consider buying the trade.

This lines up with what I heard, that the red band versions are going to continue, eventually leading to a “Red Band” line.
This has the feel of Batman / Joker: Deadly Duo about it. I just waited for the inevitable hardcover deluxe edition, and I'll do the same for this. The Red Band bagged idea is just dumb, but each to their own.
Marvel barely ever does deluxe hardcovers. They only do them for ongoing titles it seems now that collect the first couple volumes of a run. Maybe it’s because there hasn’t been anything they’ve done lately that would warrant a deluxe hardcover, but I’m not holding my breath.
I'm all up for the classic Wolverine logo's return as well.

The pollybaged edition sounds great. Marvel are bringing back some good people-claremont, capullo, at last. That'll get people back buying.
I'm a huge Greg Capullo fan, and I'll pick up anything he's on. Thankfully he's teaming up with a writer who likely won't deliver a sh!t script.
I have little doubt that Marvel's pitch to Capullo was something like "Greg, here's a big pile of cash. Do whatever you want." and we get Wolverine, dinosaurs, and old-school, classic Avengers with a *likely* big dose of violence and carnage.
As for variant interiors, I think it's a cool idea. I recall Fathom #1 did this, with the first 3 or 4 pages being different, depending on which version of the issue you picked up.
I wouldn't pay $400 for it, and I don't need it to be ultra violent. I do think it's generally an interesting idea, though.
This just reminded me, what happened to “X-Men legends”??? After resurrecting Brett Booth it seems it slowly disappeared.
Very excited for this miniseries. Hickman is hard carrying 2024 for Marvel with the new Ultimate Universe and his other projects. Greg Capullo drawing a Wolverine is like a dream come true. Does it suck that it isn't the main ongoing? Yeah but I'd rather have 5 great issues of a Wolverine story with great art & story than a 30+ issue run with some greatly drawn issues with 25 fill in artists. Also, this miniseries is definitely gonna overshadow Ahmed and Cocollo's book for a few months.
The whole poly bag thing is really, really dumb. Why not just revive the Marvel MAX imprint if you want a full R Rated Marvel comic?
Capullo and Townsend is all i needed to know to pick up a book in the visual medium.
The reason the 1/25 red band variant went so crazy on eBay is that it was super under ordered.
The future variants will not catch retailers off guard again.
I would be more into it if it was set in 616 proper.
But Capullo on art is a treat and I think Hickman is best doing mini's. This can be good. Hopefully they get someone who is good at coloring.

This new Wolverine series looks like it’s going to be really good, apparently Wolverine has left the X-men and went out on his own, doesn’t wanna deal with humans or mutants anymore, the only one who visits him is nightcrawler,can’t wait to check this out
That is a good pairing. We'll see how the final product will turn out. But the variant interior gimmick just screams greed.

The red band books began and all new category for me. “Cool annoying”. Looks cool but does not matter. In blood hunt 2 red band they kind of continue the dr strange cut in half thing. I talked a bit about it in my full video from this week. Even cut out the comparison into another separate video.

Only people that bought the redtube versions were flippers at my lcs. And they were only allowed to buy one so they were still on the shelf by the time I go on Saturdays. You can always pick ‘em out. They only come in for hype and FCBD.
Jonathan Hickman's career makes a pretty good case for the proliferation of AI in comics. Just fire all the writers and make Hickman the editor in chief of a roster of Hickman AIs. Cheap as hell and highly effective.

When Greg Capullo stoped to draw Spawn, I stoped to buy and read Spawn comics.
The only good version of Wolverine right now is the one from X-Men '97. The jury is still out on the one from Deadpool And Wolverine. But the Wolverine from the Marvel Comics comic books has been permanently ruined. After the way that he was changed for the worse during the Krakoa story, there is no coming back from that.

Feels a bit like Hickman's Last Dance at Marvel. Wolverine is not really who I consider a Hickman character for a solo work...Hulk, Iron Man, Black Panther, Thor all seem more his speed.

The Blood Hunt Red Band polybagged books are not worth anything. You can find them for less than cover price. There is a Leinil Yu EC homage cover that’s polybagged that is going for $150-$175.

Wait a minute, who didn't expect the red ban version to not be successful? I knew it would be...that's all my experience with collectors and knowing how they think and act. And yes Marvel is going to use this for as long as there are projects that warrant it. And a Wolverine series, let's be blunt he's a violent character with violent enemies, is perfect for this to be used on again. You can make valid arguments that is doesn't grow the readership, but the sales still add to the bottom line. Again define unnecessary? It's not stupid either. In the grand scheme of marketing I have seen dumber. You weren't there for shooting a bullet hole in a comic. And aren't we supposed to be talking about new Wolverine series? Not spending nearly 5 minutes bitching about something that is up to the customer. I am out here. Done listening to this one. WTF20.

Hickman on X-Men... No. Never again. (I'm out on Hickman's sterile, lifeless writing now anyway but especially on X-Men. Just because all the current stuff looks really bad doesn't mean the least bad is worth a damn. There's a ton of good X-men from the late 70s to late 90s to last a lifetime.)
The Marvel ultimate universe stuff being well I know some of you people like it but it's nothing. And what he did to the X-Men I'm just done with that guy. I understand why some are excited about that ultimate stuff but it is so milk toast vanilla bland that I just don't get it in the end
As comic noob my first Marvel Avengers read was the Ultimates by Mark Millar OMG!? Everyone was douche bag even Cap. Ultimates is like the DC New52 as in WTF happened to these heroes? Thing is I do really like Mark Millar other stuff, but they are about antiheroes or straight up villains.

This is the 50th Wolverine anniversary so Marvel will fill us with your titles. But I don't have any interest in this. I'm so tired with X-Men at this point that I just will skip any X book related.
