Thanks. I suppose I'm an advanced/expert skier. Maybe a "sloppy" expert. I can ski every named run at Mammoth and I can pretty much deal with almost any steep, even though it might not always look pretty. I don't do things that require big air.
You've got to be familiar with the area because there's not an obvious path and several ways to just miss it entirely, have to do a ton of exhausting hiking uphill to get back to civilization, or worse, cliff out over ~100-foot drops without the ability to safely climb out (and guy died this way a few years back). You can get to it either off the Dragon's Back ridge or off the very end of Dave's (both routes are a little different--Dragon's Back is trickier/riskier). Once off Dave's, you sort of traverse skier's left, taking care not to stay too high or go too low. It's about a 2 mile traverse through sporadic clusters of trees and also very sun exposed. Steepest grade is just above the hole itself. Snow gets a little weird in the hole itself because the ceiling drips water which freezes below, but then loose stuff slides over it from above. Definitely go with someone who has gone before if you think you're up to it or thoroughly reckon the area hiking from the opposite direction, taking GPS, and know how to assess avy conditions (I spend a lot of time in Mammoth all year round).
Yep. Right above Twin Lake. Go immediately skier's left after exiting the hole to align with one of the bridge's over twin lake that ends right by shuttle stop across from Tamarack Lodge entrance. The day I did it the temps and sun made me shy away from skiing across the lake, but on a cold, solid day, that would be fun too.
Very cool. I will not do it myself but I loved watching the route you took to get there.
only way i new to get to it was to hike up it and ski through hehe
Fun run - how did you know you were going to end up at a lift taking this?
Oh, I very much intended to do this run when I took the gondola up.
Nice run , solo, and great effort , looked icy and hard packed. What level of skier or experience would you consider your self ? 😃👍

Not brave, just dumb.

As long as you don’t miss to the west and head south off a cliff.🤣. Looks filled in, very nice.

Maybe a stupid q, but how do you find the route?

Ask Wolley.
Solo mish. Awesome! So it’s just spits you out down by tamarack?
