    Hey! We're upgrading our cnc and curious what model rotary that is, and if you were buying a new machine for block work what would you change from your current setup? I was going to get the hrt210 high torque model rotary and the renishaw probe. Also curious how much detail your models have as a starting point for the probe?

      it is an HRT 310 with a brake booster. maybe a higher speed spindle for when in using smaller endmills, but that is not a common operation for me. the models have as much detail as you want to put in them.

    What fly cutter is that?

    • @paragonengines1924
      @paragonengines1924  2 роки тому +11

      It is one that I made. I modeled it after some others that I had seen. Honestly, When I called a company that sells them and they wanted $4000+ for the same cutter, I figured I could have the machine make its own tools and save some money while I was at it!

    Could this be done without a 4th axis? How?

    Seems like a lot of set up for just the decking. Did it not need any cylinder work?

    • @paragonengines1924
      @paragonengines1924  2 роки тому +5

      I didn't need to bore this one. But it is less set up time than manual machine, and I have to babysit the manual machine and flip it over halfway through the process.

    Can you explain the probing process in detail? It looks like you use two work offsets here: X and Y for each one are the center of a bolt hole and Z is the plane of the deck. A is the plane of the deck in Y. Is there a 3rd work offset on the centerline of the bar so you are automatically checking the deck height of each bank?

    • @paragonengines1924
      @paragonengines1924  2 роки тому +3

      G54 X,Y,Z,A are set off of the dowel hole and deck surface of one side of the block. The G55 is the same for the other side. The bar is set up parallel to the spindle in Z,Y before the block is loaded into the machine. So, the bar is in the center of the mains and rotary, so it measures and machines off of the crank centerline.

    Do you work on a variety of stuff, or a selection of specific engines?

    • @paragonengines1924

      We mainly work on domestic V8's and the viper engines. SBC, BBC, SBF, BBF, coyotes, LS, hemi's, ETC. We are more geared towards performance, but do some standard rebuilds as well.

    Did you remove the burr?

    • @paragonengines1924
      @paragonengines1924  2 роки тому +3

      Yes, we have a deburring process for the aluminum parts of the block and a different process for the sleeves. It breaks the edge on the sleeves enough to make the rings slide in easy.

      it would usually took about 1.5-2 hours on our other surfacer, could have just been the setup of the machine. I'm sure there are faster ways, but usually the blocks go in for more than one operation, so that saves a lot of time.
