I recall an interview with Powell in Sounds magazine around 77/78 that he lost several pounds in weight each night on this tour from the heavy routine. I saw them at the Rainbow theatre in london on this tour and they were incredible. Top bloke and top drummer sadly missed.
this lineup of Rainbow with Blackmore, Dio, Powell, Bain, and Tony Carey might have been the GREATEST rock band in history if they could have stuck together! this recording is a little off but it friggin ROCKS if you LISTEN to it!
Don Holmer I agree but Ritchie Blackmore being Ritchie Blackmore meant he was always going to end up playing druid garden gnome music in front of a 3' high Stonehenge.
that is. Great band but the greatest than that band is Deep purple Band especially Mk2 and the best live Made in Japan noted by Ritchie Blackmore he Said Deep purple is 5 eagle and Rainbow is one eagle
I'm sorry but everybody talk about Cozy and Dio, which are The Best but don't forget the master mind behind RAINBOW !!!!! Ritchie Blackmore........ speachless......
Ritchie Blackmore!! The greatest lead guitarist in Rock 🙏 There I have said it 😊 sorry to upset the Page/Beck/Clapton/Van Halen/SRV fans....but it's the truth 👍
I'd always put Jimi and EVH on the top spot before anyone else. After that it's subjective, but yeah my fave would be Blackmore and Rory Gallagher prolly.
Probably. Both great, but ... c'mon man, it's STARGAZER, with all its Phrygian-meets-metal epicness. A Light In The Black destroyed Cozy Powell every night they played it, so they had to stop doing it live. Imagine "On Stage" with this and Gates Of Bablyon - I would die a happy man.
Ritchie's axework is more than enough to shove the mouth of his CRITICS!!! It is not the fault of Ritchie if the camera man poke the camera on him most of the time because of his unpredictable antics on stage he is the one who turns the show around VIVA TMIB!!! with utmost rescpect to the VOICE RJD!! my respect to the THROAT!! beautioful song and performance \m/ \m/
Everybody says that RB, Dio, and CP were awesome. Ok, I also agree wtih that, however what about toney and jimmy..? Solos of toney, also rythms were incredible. Back vocals and dynamics playing style of Jimmy was also invaluable. They merit a special thank for their contributions to best mk of Rainbow..
Great!!!!!!! it sounds amazing, have you got the complete concert? there aren't many concerts from this era with "a light in the black" in the setlist. Greetings
But without Ronnie there wouldn't be such a fantastic band on the start. I've been the Ritchie's fan all the time but I love Dio too, the best voice in rock!
don't just criticize blindly Bill Taylor, without each other there would not be this great wonderful magnificent music we listen to it today, those ppl just create the head lines of hard and Heavy rock and metal music as well, Dio is a great singer and he was the one who wrote those beautiful lyrics accompanied by his voice, played the master and guitar hearo and one of a kind musician Ritchi Blackmore use your brain,
tarek omar Get off your high horse. Nowhere did I criticize Dio. I specifically stated he was great. To me, Ritchie was the centerpiece of the group, that is just my opinion. Obviously all the members of the group were part of the wonder of Rainbow.
The First Line up of Rainbow was ELF. Just the Guitarplayer and the name was changed Rainbow would never ever be as sucessfull as with Ronnie James Dio. Look out.
Correction: Elf was the name of Ronnie Dio's band pre-Rainbow. Ritchie Blackmore formed Rainbow after leaving Deep Purple (the first time) and brought Dio in to sing.
I can tell; me too. Saw Rainbow: Ritchie w/Ronnie, Cozy, Stone, Daisley in 1978. My ears are still ringing and my mind is still blown.....So Awesome!!!!
I saw one of the very first Rainbow concerts ever at the old Beacon theater in NYC. Saw the Rising tour and actually saw them play Stargazer, A Light in the Black and Still I'm Sad all in a row. Poor Cozy, just knackered the shit out of him, but superb drummer. In fact saw every Rainbow tour, and each tour often multiple times. With the exception of Deep Purple Mark 2 (which I saw in 72 and 73), I don't think there has ever been a more dynamic band live. And I am talking about with Ronnie and Cozy. Bonnett was really good. JLT...? meh...
hey bill taylor, very stupid comment, if Richie would have stopped his arrogant bullshit from taking over the stage, we could have heard more from the best vocalist of all time including robert plant! Listen closer my freind, Jimmy page embarrased blackmore. RIP Ronnie!!
That's the very beginning of what we know today as "power metal"... Pioneers, kings
Holy crap! The album version was fast.. this is was face-melting!
I recall an interview with Powell in Sounds magazine around 77/78 that he lost several pounds in weight each night on this tour from the heavy routine. I saw them at the Rainbow theatre in london on this tour and they were incredible. Top bloke and top drummer sadly missed.
Dio had a phenomenal voice and talent, what a gift he was
Why haven't I searched for this before now? This is brilliant!

agreed..the greatest live band ever...gonna miss Jimmy but I have almost all the old live gold, loved his bass.
100% agree
that is. Great band but the greatest than that band is Deep purple Band especially Mk2 and the best live Made in Japan noted by Ritchie Blackmore he Said Deep purple is 5 eagle and Rainbow is one eagle
Most talented line up ever...
Everything that's right with live music is in this recording. Power, energy, talent, and spontaneity. Thanks for posting this audio gem!
I'm sorry but everybody talk about Cozy and Dio, which are The Best but don't forget the master mind behind RAINBOW !!!!! Ritchie Blackmore........ speachless......
Awesome to hear this live love playing this on guitar 🎸
That Live Version was Phenomenal❤🎸

Aye so twill be
Each one in the league of their own, Bro....no comparison...keep rockin
La primera vez que escuché este tema aluciné...
it's really rare live thank you for sharing, i never been listened before
RITCHIE BLACKMORE!!!THE BEST EVER!!!
awesome!!
Cozy Powell the master of heavy drummer.
Am I the only one who prefers ALITB to Stargazer?
I think the two go together and can't be separated. Both are the best. I've been listening to this for 46 years and I never get tired of it.
Same here 😃👌🏻
You can't have one without the other they are connected
No you’re not it’s the best song Ritchie ever made imo
Love you...Blackmore and Dio..cozy..Bain..tony...you Brillian...
R.I.P Jimmy.

Ma préférée de l'album ❤
an underrated line up
Dio was perfect on vocals 🤘
A Magnificent performance ❤️
Cozy era uma locomotiva do rock! Essa formação é incrivel!

Simply Fantástic is Song 🎵🎼🎶🎸😎👊
Should have included a version on On Stage.
Great!!!!!!! it sounds amazing, have you got the complete concert? there aren't many concerts from this era with "a light in the black" in the setlist. Greetings
Cozy was crazy! How could he get those concerts to the end?
Actually he lost many pounds every time
The Diabolical KING OF KINGS..!!!
For the Dio fanatics, he was great, no doubt........... but without Blackmore there would have been no Dio. Ritchie was the Master.
But without Ronnie there wouldn't be such a fantastic band on the start. I've been the Ritchie's fan all the time but I love Dio too, the best voice in rock!

Bill Taylor ...just ! Ritchie was the songwritter ..musically ! Dio the master of lyrics...a great ..60-40 :-)
Dio is the main composer and the lead singer
What intonation DIO HAD!
Deverian tener un registro en vivo en ontage rainbow
Hay d audio , vídeo casi no
it seems this is the only live version of light in the black
There are a few more , but only audio , no video footage I think 😳
リッチー、Dio様かっこよすぎ!
I'D LIKE TO LISTEN THIS IN FULL HD SOUND !!!! SHIT!!!!
***R.I.P.***
Listen to the man sing, epic.
Yes you are
@Steken007 Dio is my number one. Followed by Coverdale and Page - no cheap tricks, but pure perfection - masters of voice.
Well, it's the second half of one of the best sides of an album you will ever hear.....?
listen to those drums......
Listen applaud!!!!! Is it audidible audio?
Remember, no voice correction shit!
blackmore is rainbow
Blackmore en su punto algido.
The First Line up of Rainbow was ELF. Just the Guitarplayer and the name was changed Rainbow would never ever be as sucessfull as with Ronnie James Dio. Look out.
And Cozy Powell? Was not a member of ELF and without Ritchie ELF should have stayed nothing.
Correction: Elf was the name of Ronnie Dio's band pre-Rainbow. Ritchie Blackmore formed Rainbow after leaving Deep Purple (the first time) and brought Dio in to sing.
I know. I'm a Blackmore fan since 1972.
I can tell; me too. Saw Rainbow: Ritchie w/Ronnie, Cozy, Stone, Daisley in 1978. My ears are still ringing and my mind is still blown.....So Awesome!!!!

Fool. You are on drugs.
+Craig Harlow Jimmy Page embarrased Blackmore? Dude, you are so stupid.
Craig Harlow Craig, you don't know what you're talking about!
And Bill T., I completely agree with you!
Jimmy Page never did and count the songs and albums. Seen them both quite a few times
