- In January I called the Nordland ODR C the best OD of 2020 and so far that is proving true! It is getting harder and harder to get one since the store sells out within minutes of availability. I have been loving this pedal and it has fast become my desert island overdrive.

I built the Aion Andromeda Deluxe ODR-C yesterday and people… this is so awesome!!! I’m in love. Beautiful sound. The extra bass, mid and, odc knobs takes this circuit to a way way higher level. Definitely one of my favorite padals if not favorite. I built odr1 clones before and added bass shaping mods to be ble to cut some bass as wanted since I feel the original too bassy. Not that problem here and the mid pot is always a great tool on any pedal. The odc is subtle but perceivable. The character of the clipping changes. Feels softer and sweeter to one side and harder and edgier to the other. Subtle but it’s there. I think it’s a pedal every guitarist should have.
I'm excited to read this as I just put in my orders yesterday to mouser and aion for this project. I suspect this might be the sound I'm after.
Do you find that the low cut is most perceivable all the way down or up, but not so much in between?
@@alextabora in mine it starts cutting at about 8 o’clock (that I notice) and goes gradually all the way. It depends very much on the pot taper and sometimes even the amp bass response makes pedals bass controls feel a little different.
@@ramilrodriguez8340 thank you!
Digging both the pedal and the home skoolin’ shirt🔥
Tom is the reason i got an original ODR 1! I think i ordered the shirt before his video even ended 😃😅
Great demo 😎🤟🏽
Thanks so much! Hope to have earned your sub 🤘
Great video, thank you Steve. I use the Belle Overdrive from Wampler. (The mini switch is great on the side. I use the in Position = Asymmetrical Clipping) This gives me a fantastic sound. Have you compared the Belle to the Nordland ODR-C and which one do you prefer?
I have a belle, a mini, odrc and the vintage. I am planning a full demo for the belle and a complete natural overdrive shootout! I haven't spent the time with the belle yet though
The ODR-C blows away the original Nobels! Very cool to see the EQ curve that the spectrum knob affects!
I agree. The website is super useful with those graphs!
@@SteveSterlacci I didn’t really feel that way. Wanted to love it, but couldn’t bond. I sold it and continue on with a reissue odr1.
Yeah, definitely doesn't blow it away. I know it's subjective but the stock ODR-1 sounds incredible.
they both sound great. the og seems softer for some reason
Yeah something about it has that extra goodness to it!
Half the tone is in that shirt
You know it!
different pedals sorry
They are indeed different pedals
@@SteveSterlacci different sound
Ya. I am working on a formal comparison vid
That lo-cut is a game changer for a Humbucker neck pickup. That’s fantastic!
Its such an amazing feature. Almost gets into single coil territory
Just got my green Home Skoolin shirt in the mail! Great demo as usual Steve. I have 2 of the ODR-C units and this is my favorite overdrive. Have used the original ODR-1 units for 25 years.
Thats awesome! Hold on to those 2 and enjoy the odrc. Toms channel is the best 🤘🤘🤘 sounds like we got a lot in common
The locking knob thing you’re talking about is called a “center detent.” as in “the knobs have a center detent.” Just thought you’d like to know.
I am very glad to know ! Thank you
I'm excited. I own a vintage ODR-1 and just ordered one of these off Reverb that should arrive Monday. I'm surprised what you say about running pedals into it. I run a modded SD-9 into my ODR-1 and love it. Can't wait to try it and compare.
Btw, messing up the last note. We all know that feel. Except for Uncle Larry.
Uncle larry doesnt mess up!
Awesome sounding pedal. Have a good day.
Thanks DD! You too
hey Steve, I have a Roland jc-50. splendid cleans, works nicely with my blues improv. I do wanna get though a nice raunchy overdrive, and tbh, I've been struggling for some time now. I've had a tubescreamer type of circuit, a Klon clone now, a few others, but somehow it sounds trashy...would you recommend this for a solid state amp?
Definitely! Especially if you don't like the TS Klon vibe. I am in the same boat!
It really is a fantastic overdrive innit!
Indeed it is!
I would say It did seems like the ultimate solution but price wise, it does not make much sense. For Canada buyers it would be somewhere around 400$.
Thats tough. Given the originals are over $1k now, may not be the worst move
Great Video and Playing!!!!!!!!
I want one but these are so overpriced tho
I have a new demo of the mini series thats out. Less money and less space. Same exact important parts
You can absolutely push into it if the push rolls off some bottom or is mid-boosted. I use a Pearl OD-05 clone with the gain way down and a slight boost at ~100hz into my ODR-1 clone to from a thick rhythm tone to a cutting lead tone, but I'm sure you could do it with a TS, a Timmy or an eq pedal.
Just ordered a CC+ and can’t wait. From the many shootouts I’ve heard sounds just like the big brother so I’m super excited. Absolutely love how the Nordlands sound. Can’t wait to finally use it in person
I'd love to have one. I have (and really love) the ODR-1 and mini.
One more definitely won't hurt!
Not one bit. Great OD pedals.
👏👏👏👏
I bought the Nordland, but i find there is a harshness that i just can't dial out, and i play thru an old bf bf Princeton reverb as well. I also bought the Reissue ODRI and although the Nordland is very versatile. it is not as sweet or smooth as the nobels....i may sell the Nordland
I find the opposite, but whatever gets you your sound is cool with me, and you saved a few bucks 😉
Im soo happy with my ODR1BC, makes my Yam Pac neck pup jazzy with Simble and with Tomsline Bluesy a verr agile Marshally tone, 120€ without a waiting list!!!!!!
Those do look cool!
Well done mate. Very helpful review of the features. Pretty much fixes all of my gripes with my ODR-1 Mini. I've recently picked up a J Rockett Chicken Soup V1, which tweaks the recipe of the Nobels nicely, but this thing is on another level. Very tempted to buy a used one that's being advertised for AUD$450 (!!!!)
Thanks Joel! This thing is the real deal. Easily my desert island OD and worth it imo...
the ocd nob your tweeking sounds like a slow attack compressor, allowing initial attack to be heard louder. an effect of compression i really like, as fast attack can leave the guitar squashed and undefined in a mix. me liketh alot. impressive pedal. that's two for two vids of yours i loved. if i have nothing nice to say, i'm quiet. good stuff friend.
low cut would work well on my mesa single rec. known for bass muddieness and usually a pedal like a ts od used to tame bottom end and give you clarity. this pedal is nice and open with no usual cut of bass frequencies till you grab that bass cut. impressed again
ok, lastly, what about an eq into the front of this pedal to tame the low end and maybe add mids for cut for solo etc. eq pedals are one of my favorite effects, that you can get carried away with tweeking, but are so powerful for shaping tones. of course, increase eq gain level and you also get more gain, not output level increase
Hey, great video, im looking for two things, a great overdrive and fuzz stacker, your comments at the end make me think now though, maybe not so good for running a fuzz into it hmmm
Idk many od pedals that are known for stacking with fuzz. With one of these on light gain, maybe it'd be great
@@SteveSterlacci i will just try it out as i really dig this for its overdrive, really natural sounding, more like the amp than a pedal
@@NERDOFUNK thats the goal! Good luck with it!
I have an original green ODR-1 and a silver reissue that sound almost identical. My favorite settings for both are Drive:3, Spectrum:7 and Level 6. How would you "dial in" the ODR-C to achieve this sound?
Keep the extra knobs in their neutral position and do the same with those 2 knobs. Neutral is considered "stock odr" in the manual of the odrc. Thats awesome you have 2 classics
Do you mean that Drive:3, Spectrum:7 and Level:6 on the ODR-C should correspond to the same settings on the ODR-1 as long as the Middle and other 2 knobs are set neutral? I suspect if I have them both connected and A/B them I could eventually dial the OCR-C so that they sound very close. But I haven't had time to do that yet. I bought my ODR-1s used in the early 2000s before most players realized just how great they are.
@scotttucker9346 nice!! Yes thats what i would think. Obviously, exact settings would never match to one another, but should be in the ballpark.
@@SteveSterlacci Steve, you have been very helpful, and you get great tones form your ODR-C. One last question: By chance are you related to Bob Sterlacci from Endicott, NY? Bob and I were engineers for IBM 30 years ago, and he was a great friend.
Thanks @@scotttucker9346 . No relation that I am aware of, but there really aren't many Sterlaccis out there. I am sure someone stopped speaking to another somewhere along that road lol
Nordland ODR C vs Xts MultiDrive ?
Never tried XTS But they are great as a company
The multidrive felt kinda compressed no matter where I had it dialed. Cool pedal though.
Are you running yours at 9 or 18v?
9v
@@SteveSterlacci that's where I'm running mine. If I want less compression I just remove it with the control.
@@Billywagner22 yep! Its such a powerful feature
