i just had my boiler replaced - after fitted and tested the gas supply was weak which is coming into the property. Its been capped - one hours time they will have front garden dug out and replacing new line. exciting stuff - neighbours will love us in the morning.
It surprised me the gas pipe was plastic. The wire heated up to plastic weld together was quite ingenious. It reminded me of another use of heating wire. I had a windscreen replaced on car before, the windscreen seal rubber has a wire embedded in it. Installer removes trim, connect 2 ends of wire to battery, it heats up and melt rubber enough to pull wire out and break seal.
That's why they put too much asphalt in. That way you guarantee either a hump or a hollow, but never a flat finish. When they resurface and plane the road, the plane will follow the contour so even then the defect will remain. Once it's dug up it's never right again.
D'un pays à un autre, il est intéressant de voir les techniques utilisées ainsi que les matériaux. PE jaune pour vous, nous PE noir + liseré jaune. Juste dommage de voir les déchets restés en fond de fouille !
The new gas main is not deep enough, the requirement is 750 mm from the crown of the pipe to the road surface, Gas Safety (installation and use) Regulations 1998
Hi, dead insert, its now classed as a ducted main, depth does not apply . . If the construction engineer had been any good he would have had it dropped, but we are talking Balfour Beatty. . Glad I retired before they brought the quality of work in the WMLDZ down to their level . . You keeping all right Bob
That sure europe somewhere i think. Man i am watching why its too messy, dirt everywhere during a fusion process. Plus hands dirty but biggest a hand saw seriously not even a facer. Wow
George. Is he a member of the team from SNM or a member of the public observing? My guess is the latter. I agree there are many things that have been done wrong. As someone in the industry I cringed at some of what was being done. However if you're going to quote a law, then pick one that exists. There is no such act as the street and work act. It doesn't exist, and never has. Are you referring to NRSWA or TMA?
Just to much to comment on, 6yrs old and Balfour Beatty . . Lowest standard you are prepared to except is the highest you are ever going to achieve. I think it is really sad that the guy that filmed this actually thinks they did a good job and thanks them. Six years on and this is the first time I have seen it. . Disgrace . . Men have been dismissed for what has been filmed in this video.
So how long until the road has to be dug up again to repair the clay drainage pipes????Conditions are shit for the blokes working there, don't blame them. Typical of our capitalist infrastructure planning (planning???).I'm sure they did the best job they could?! :-)

Putting road base below and around the gas pipe is a huge Bozo No No, they will be back.
