  • The circular hike starts in Callino and goes to Pietra Castle. From there continue to the Sentieri dell'Arte (Paths of Art) which starts in Rovereto Art Museum and leads to the largest castle in South Tyrol in the Middle Ages. After the old rest area you can see the whole Vallagarina valley from a vantage point. South Tyrolean history was written there in the Battle of Calliano on August 10, 1487 when the South Tyroleans defeated the Venetian troops. Then the Sentieri dell'Arte leads on the slope of La Padella (950 m) to the Rio Cavallo with a view from the top of the Zambel waterfall. Here the Rio Cavallo plunges 15 m into the depths. Then we continue along the Rio Cavallo to the Old Mill and up to the Castel Beseno (first mentioned in 1171). It was the largest castle in South Tyrol in the Middle Ages and can be explored extensively. From the battlements around the castle you can enjoy the fantastic view from a height of 425 m over the Rio Cavallo and the Vallagarina valley. Then the hike leads around the Castel Beseno and down to the lower part of the Zambel waterfall. There you can take a good rest and refresh yourself in the water of the Rio Cavallo. From the waterfall we continue through the vineyards of Calliano to the central car park, the starting point of the hike. Distance approx. 12 km, duration with visit approx. 4 hours and +/- 430 meters in altitude. GPS data: www.alltrails....
