COMMANDO (1985) Arnold Schwarzenegger - Reel Action

- Are you ready for some action? That sweet sweet action? Welcome to Reel Action, where we take a look at some of the best action movies of the '80s and '90s, with the biggest stars, the biggest muscles, and the best one-liners a production budget can buy.
For the very first episode there's really only one place to start, right? Ahnold! Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1985 vengeance flick, Commando! This is what I like to call "Peak Schwarzenegger". This was long before he had started to soften his image with comedies like Kindergarten Cop and Twins, and featured the future Governator at his most jacked-up and monosyllabic. Arnold at his very best.

"Don't disturb my friend, he's dead tired".
That's the one i was thinking the whole time 😂
"What'd you do with him?"
"I let him go"
"Terrible oneliners" ???? Are you daft? They are brilliant.
People don't like to admit how just plain cool and clever because they don't adhere to today's bland, soft and safe standards.
They're brilliant because they're so terrible! If it isn't obvious enough, I love this movie and all of its one-liners.
Exactly they're brilliant because they're so bad. This is prime B-movie schlock.
And as for the today-so-soft genius, filmmakers like Tarantino are still making grungy, exploitation cinema but from a self-aware, actually good cinema perspective. Did you even see Mandy? Nic Cage doing cocaine off broken glass before having a chainsaw fight with a demon biker is "soft"? Lol.
I think he was complimenting them. You know.... bad is good, hot is cool... that kinda thing
@@dredwick I was. Thank you!
Man, I saw this on TV when I was a kid in the early 90's. I thought it was the most awesome movie i'd ever saw, up until that time. I still watch it regularly. Bonafide 80's classic!
Just think, you had no idea it was a documentary. ☺
Let off some steam Bennett is something i say way too often usually when it's not necessary. Fvkn' classic
I used to be a chef, the opportunities were endless. I'm not anymore but still use it in completely unnecessary situations.
@@hayreddinbarbarossa661 oh so u know all too well about the infamous Batwing technique in the walk in cooler!!
I can whisper it "ANYTIME"
@@fluorosco I ain't got time to bleed.....
So billy, i was over at my girlfriends house......
@@darthXreven why did you say that twice? Why did you say that twice?
One of the most 80's action movies ever.
I have to say that I absolutely love this channel. I'm so tired of seeing UA-camrs just crapping over things. It's so refreshing to hear people actually enjoying movies.
The 80's were a great time to be a teen!
Elementary age was awesome too...I was nine when this came out.
I was a preteen when this came out. I also remember the Commando arcade game. Never got very far in it, but it was pretty fun.
This is one of my favorite old school Arnold movies I've seen about 50 times I love it iam going to let off some steam 👍👍
"excuse me, dont disturb my friend....he's dead tired..." Love it!!!
I can watch this movie anytime,anywhere,any day,all day.Great 80's action.
"Do you remember when I said I'd watch your video last?"
"Yes."
"I lied."
Don't forget the awesome cry he makes as he's let go over the cliff: Oooo La laaaaaa!
Then he falls and sounds like he screams "ooh la laaaaaa!!"
I once had Commando movie poster in my room. My dad used it to cover floor while painting walls. What a dick move.
Fuck!
I feel sorry bro, I do.
Hah! Probably jealous...😉😉😉
I forgive you father...
Really?
No, I lied
I just realised Sully is the guy from The Warriors.
Warriors.... Come out and plaaaaayyy!!
And the main villain in Dreamscape!
And also picks up the dead bodies in John Wick.
He was also in Twin Peaks.
come out and playee ayy
I always thought Bennet's shirt was supposed to be cheap chainmail
I was weird but always came off to me as some kind of punk outfit, so I just accepted it...
I thought it was wool...
The old movies are 100x better then the new stuff
Seeing this reminds me of how many R-rated movies my dad took me to before I was ten.
A buddy of mine has a story about his dad talking him to see First Blood when he was 3 or 4 years old. You guys are lucky. lol
that is awesome - my dad used to hire out all these action movies on VHS back when he first got a VCR back in '85 and we would always have a crazy movie night with something like Commando, Rambo or Death Wish 3 - LOLS good times
I grew up in the testosterone fuel 1980s action movie craze. I loved every minute of it of course when I joined the army in the early 1990s it was quite an eye-opener when you find out weapons don't behave like they do in hollyweird.
The yellow Porche is perfectly intact after Arnold flips it back down. You can see it when it drives away. I noticed it as a kid.
When i was a kid, my friends and I would re-enact Commando line for line, scene by scene... Holds a special place in my 80's heart. Also... Bill Paxton. Only dude in a Terminator movie, a Predator movie and an Aliens movie. #Legend
I really liked his character in True Lies.
What a coincidence, last Saturday I rewatched this movie after like 30 years or so.
Commando has a degree levity that fits well with the ludicrous body count and makes it a far better movie than the brooding Rambo
Frankly, Rambo shouldn't have had a sequel. I can't quite put it out why..
Commando I try to watch every year, I don't think I watched it yet but that movie and Total Recall, I watch religiously... The best of Arnold in my opinion.
The rest is the rest, and the rest is just as awesome.
The Director of Predator is why Predator was so much different than Commando, a truly 80s Action Flick, vs. Predator a timeless Masterpiece.
Had Commando and Predator on VHS as a kid and i completely wore both of them out. They still have a special place in my heart, and Predator is still a genuinely good movie.
Classic. Probably seen this more than any other Arnie film
This movie is so manly that the narrator's voice broke twice during the making of this video
Great,quality,movies
i love every Arnold classic action films!!!!!!!!!!
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Commando is so awesome! It’s just such a ridiculously fun time! Arnold, great over-the-top action, and great cheesy one-liners. Commando kicks butt to this day!!
This is a ridiculous movie....and a freaking love it!
Commando is my favorite Arnold movie
What is AMAZING is that this movie cost ONLY $11 MILLION!
I do severely love this movie. It’s so simple and fun without any current day nonsense.
Best movie ever made, hands down. Watched it on the VHS as a kid so many times that the tape literally bent from the heat of being in the VHS player. It's eighties through and through.
I'm a little surprised you didn't mention the "ooh la la" that sully let's lose as he's falling to his death. I'm gonna go let off some steam now
Easily my favorite arnold movie outside terminator 1 and 2, don't disturb my friend hes dead tired makes me laugh every time lol
💓💋🧡💌
Commando is an Action Cult Classic Masterpiece
I love that Val Verde cinematic universe 😏
I almost forgot anything about Commando, except one thing, that space age sci-fi looking Steyr AUG! And I'm lovin it!
I love Commando. So much action ln that movie.
"Down wind? You think I could smell them?
I DID.
Commando classic 💪
Ha, great video... Love Commando, first Arnie film I ever saw!!!
I love Commando. Rambo 2 does not come close.
Commando is a pure classic Arnold and the best he's ever looked on film and much better than Stallone at that time. The dude was ripped to perfection, one of the greatest action movies ever made.
"Inexplicable cargo net vest"
It's supposed to be chain mail. This does not even remotely come across in higher quality than VHS.
i agree it always been a chain mail vest which is way more ridiculous and awesome
@@rbivgq1734
Why did Hollywood ever think knit chainmail was acceptable in film though?
The fact that it's one guy wearing it in a modern setting means no suspension of disbelief about it.
Plus it would have been cheap to have some propmaker spend a couple weeks making it with Aluminum wire.
@@thumbwarriordx I heard it was the actor who decided to wear the chainmail for his character
It's one of those movies where the budget was so low that the stage hands didn't even bother hiding the props and safety harnesses, but was almost swallowed whole my Arnie himself.
Please do all of Arnie's action movies in this format please! Especially Raw Deal,Predator and Running Man!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👍👍👍👍👍
Regular Guy...*proceeds to lift a phone booth*
That was the debate between 9 year olds at elementary school recess in the late '80s: Commando vs Rambo. I don't even think we knew them as John Matrix and John Rambo. It was Commando vs Rambo.
Of course, I was Team Commando but I could have ended a lot of those debates on the blacktop a lot faster of if I had those kill counts in my back pocket.
Arnold beating up mall security guards is one of the best and funniest actions scenes in movie history!
Delightful! 🏆🏆🏆
This was the first action movie I watched and I don't care what anyone says, this movie is my all time favorite. It will always be no.1
This movie kicks ass my personal favorite Arnie movie hands down
Great blooper....when Arnold rows to the island, it's a perfectly clear, sunny day, and yet somehow when he lands on the island....heinous mist everywhere.
Liking the new format.👍
Team Arnold 💪🏻
Movie was great.
What a loveletter ♥ Thanks a lot
I'm embarrassed to say that I've not seen this one, but that's going to change now. Big fan of Arnold and old action movies, I know the references, but it just hit me that I've not seen the full film.
John Matrix + John Rambo=Contra
I remember watching this movie like 50 times back when I was about 7 years old. Used to think Arnold had super strength, and tell my dad about it like all of the things he did in the movie were real 😂
I love 80's action movies. even people without a brain can find it entertaining 🤣
Sully - ohhhh la laaaaaa!!!
This movie introduced Arnie to me
And don't forget the homoerotic tone of the dialogues... This awesome movie is closer to a satire than a straight action flick!!! Thanx!!!
Bennett is a badass bad guy
Some of the great one liners
Red Heat is peak Arnold.
easily one of my favorite movies of all time
I miss these kinds of movies. Just a lot of fun, no need to worry about deeper sub plots or larger agendas.
This was the first movie I got on VHS tape as a kid...it’s a timeless classic
One of my favourite movies from my childhood
Gotta be honest, I first saw this at 12 years old (so it was 1996) and thought it was ridiculous. I had grown up on Arnold movies, yes. But they were "smart" Arnold action movies like Terminator, T2, Total Recall, Predator, Twins, True Lies, and Kindergarten Cop. Sure, I had seen Conan, Raw Deal, and even Pumping Iron and Last Action Hero, but those were either silly or I didn't find them fun enough to go back and rewatch them. When I saw this, I thought it was so stupid how Arnold was able to do all these massive feats of strength and survive the onslaught of danger that the film threw at him. Nowadays, I can see why it's the quintessential Arnold movie, but at the same time, I still feel like it's "beneath him". Like, if he hadn't made The Terminator the year before, the script would've landed on the desk of Chuck Norris' agent instead. I still love it, but it probably wouldn't be in my top 10 Arnie flicks.
Love COMMANDO...The Soldiers Look As Mexican As American Apple Pie 😂
I thought this movie was great, I just watched it last week. I was laughing at the endless ammo 😂 no reloads necessary.. just KILL
I still think his best/worst on-liner is from Raw Deal - "You shouldn't drink and bake" - Sage advice :D
Great scene on the airplane
When action movies were fun to watch. Great movie.
5:30, that's crazy!!
Did you know Die Hard was originally written to be a sequal to Commando? Now you do.
"You scared, motherfucker? Well you should be, cause this green beret's gonna kick your big ass."
"I eat green berets for breakfast, and right now I'm getting VERY hungry!"
God I love this film.
Matrix and Rambo eventually teamed up to fight Aliens in Operation Contra.
1 of my Favorite Action movies just a Classic 10/10 ☆☆☆☆☆
I had Commando on VHS and watched it loads of times and don’t remember the guy getting his arm cut off in the A-Team shed scene!
Shed scene was cut to ribbons in the UK. The "Directors' Cut" has all the US stuff put back in. Insane that the R rates US version had the shed scene, and accompanied kids could see it, wheras the UK over 18s only got the vanilla version. 80s UK censorship was a strange thing...
@@sugggregYou might know this already, but it’s even worse on the 2001 DVD. At that time it still had mandatory cuts per the BBFC’s request, which meant the shed scene was still going to be cut down, but the print from that DVD was sourced from a German master, which was even more censored! 56 seconds if I remember correctly! Insane for a relatively mainstream American action flick, most of the time they just persecuted and censored ultra violent Euro Horror flicks!
'Reel Action' is perfect for me (a Kid of the 80s and 90s)! Looking forward to many action movies of my youth!!!
Commando was ok, I of course liked it (from Austria ;-)). But this year Rambo I liked much much more!
JOHN MATRIX ..Beat up and entire mall.... Robbed a gun shop....Shot up a whole island without reloading... used bushes and flowers for cover and shot everybody with every bullet he had (ARNOLD IS THE GOAT)
On par with Robocop as best action movie ever.
"Why don't they just call him Girl George, would cut down all the confusion."
-precise Republican dad comment. 🤣
Warriors...come out and play-ay! Deserved a mention for David Kelly and Bill Paxton was in it as well
I question if he was in the original The Warriors, he is not credited as such. And it is not listed in his own filmography. And I couldn't find any other mention of it in the 5 or so Google searches I ran. The only reason I don't shut this down entirely is because he could have been in the crowd at the beginning of the movie. Then again, anyone could have been in that crowd, and quite possibly anyone was, as it was likely any and every extra they could find that day/night.
I feel like you're underselling the awesomeness of the movie... but maybe I'm biased. And that music? Come on man, it was epic!
Also feels like there could be at least another 5-10 minutes of talk about the more interesting aspects of the movie and behind the scenes shenanigans...
Dude it was Conan for me.
Thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe.😉
The Arnie vs Sly competition is funny looking back at the Classic Nintendo game CONTRA, the Totally Unofficial Team-up of the 2 80s Action Stars in the first Simultaneously Played Game many of us had ever played.
John Matrix is a name only Arnold can pull off..
Matrix : remember sully when I promised to kill you last ? I lied ...
Sully: "oooh lalalaaaaa"
Don't forget "Best use of anti-personnel mines"! The Claymore is very effective - exploded up to 3 feet from you, it will kill you every time; it will be much much less effective against a brick wall. But John Matrix doesn't play by nature's rules - he blows up all the buildings on the island, using just one Claymore for each building (placed OUTSIDE - just in case you'd like to claim that it blew up the ammunition inside...)
Does that kill count - count?
I'm pretty sure there are only 10 bad guys and he repeatedly kills the same people... Love how they all have the same moustache...
Wow, it is rare I notice stuff like wires. However, it is so obvious where when they were using wires for jumps.
ARR-AR-ARGH-AR... (Arnold noises)
What did you do with Sully? I let him go. Too funny
I'll be back!
John? il be ready John.
