If you want to go hardmode, you can do what I did: -No magic at all. Exceptions for weapons/armor that makes sense, such as the crossbows bonus damage, targe of the blooded, silver weapons, etc. -alchemy isn't allowed. The only way to restore health/stamina is to eat soups. A major downside to this is that you now have to cook often, which I think is a positive thing because it brings in a game mechanic most people would ignore. (You also might have to carry around like 40 pounds of food for difficult fights) -Sneaking isn't allowed. My character hates mages with a burning passion that overpowers his patience. (also sneak theif is super overpowered, so it's not allowed) -Since poisons aren't allowed, you'll most likely have to have heavy armor or some really intense light armor to tank harder enemies -always have a follower+companion. In my play through, it was Lydia and Meeko. -I used shouts very sparingly. My justification for this is that if he got extremely angry in a losing fight, or against a particularly powerful enemy, he would most likely shout in anger/frustration. Of course, he only knows the shouts he finds in the world since he refuses to talk to the greybeards.
These are some nice ideas for a challenging playthrough. I didn't really want to "go hardmode" with this one though. Just a bunch o rules coming from some roleplay ideas. It just turned out to be a little bit hardcore. I can't really imagine this char with no alchemy and no sneaking though. Maybe in some other build :)
I thought it was quite popular, just slightly less so than the Atronach. Dunno, with this build I'd feel like I wasted the spell absorb of Atronach, since I wasn't using any spells.
I gave this a shot. It evolved into a challenge to max out all the magic skills to level 100. I got Alteration but it was a long journey. Really funny when some novice wizard came to my home and wanted a ward spell battle. I had no option but to kill him with an ax.
Interesting build! I did builds which did not use magicka and enchanting but still used enchanted items. Now I'll try a build as magic-free as possible: - no pre-raised magical skills -> Bosmer, Khajiit; Nord is out bc of racial effect (alchemy see below) - no using of race powers (night vision is ok for Khajiit because cat!) - minimal magical unique racial effects -> Bosmer (poison&disease resistance is neglectable), Khajiit; Nord is out bc of frost resistance - no using of standing stones, shrines and divine blessings (no Agent of Dibella or Mara etc.) - no using of enchanted items of any kind (also no magical amulets, rings etc.) but items may be sold for gold - no using of magicka - no learning/using of shouts - only "realistic" potions allowed (no invisibility, waterbreathing etc.) - no companion or follower
I did know about the bleed effect on the Targe but I had not realised it stacked. And combined with the axe that will cause some damage. As so often I learned something new from one of your videos.
O yeah, targe and axe combo is the main reason why this build kinda works wothout enchanted items. You will still have a bit of hard time at Legendary, but just from time to time. Be careful with learning from my videos, though, I sometimes make silly mistakes ;)
I was thinking of making a similar anti magic build where my character seeks to mock and counter the dark users of magic. So he'd see till enchant, but strictly use the countering enchants like resist or absorb magic and extra damage against the undead, damage to Magicka. Stuff like that, making that magic turn against them Also I'd only take souls from dark ones like vampires, witches, and the like
Khajiit likes dis build! He has never not used enchanted items! Everything looks good except your dagger choice... Khajiit would use vaidr's lucky dagger(25% chance for a critical strike). Aquired from Valdr after you clear out a certain cave. Given by in keeper in Falkreath. It is as targe the blooded. Not a disenchantable item and unique. But does require arcane blacksmith. As per axe as well instead of dwarven you might use Dawnguard war axe? And YEES alchemy is a greatly underused skill! Khajiit enjoys making poisons that paralyze, linger poison, direct poison and weakness to poison!! One could also use the dwarven bow zephyr too but could be a stretch on what is allowed.
I think I decided against valdr's dagger because of the arcane blacksmith requirement. I'm not sure, it was a while ago. one axe should be orcish for it's unusually high bleeding dmg. Another one - if you wanna wield two - can be whatever you want. A dwarven one was just an example. Although for min-maxing reasons it would be worth checking out which of your secondary axes has better bleeding dmg.
one of the better 80 to 90 percent "no" magic builds out there! may "borrow " this for a new future playthrough lol though (if still around or see this) an if remember anything if did it. since he is(or was) a forsworn, how does he feel about them? (mostly the ones in cidhna mine that you help or betray ?
I remember this guy well, since I remade him with mods and anniversary content recently. I imagined him being rather spiteful towards the Forsworn. They did horrible things to his parents, maybe they were cinsidered traitors or some such.
Hi, Mike. Yeah, he is dragon ready. You use your alchemy to protect yourself against given element and raise your shield against breath attacks. Also, dragons aren't very resistant to a crossbow bolt to the face.
Also to add to what BeliSaurus replied, the Mage Hunter has all kinds of resistances to make him/her AntiDragon as well. Plus you can bash a dragon to cause it to......stumble? I guess that is the correct term to use. Either way it will cancel a dragons breath attack and leave an opening for another attack for you. I can see using the elemental fury shout with this build to increase attack speed considering how he/she won't be using enchantments.
@@clydemcclain6618 Haha, I did not expect someone to engage in this discussion two years after the original comment. You are right. Sword (or axe in this instance) and shield characters with elemental protection perk are generally easiest to handle against dragons, I think. This one has the added flexibility of being able to move rather fast and switch to a strong ranged weapon. I wasn't using any shouts, since I had a strict no magic/no enchantments rule. But if you add a few shouts, I can tell the build will become more powerful and flexible. Also, the correct in-game term is "stagger", I think :)
Indeed it is an "strict" no magic build. Using your own logic with the shield however, shouts wouldn't exactly be magic, but more of an added function. True anyone with enough training could use shouts i.e. Ulfric Stormcloack, but this is the Dragonborn we are talking about. It is what comes "natural" to his kind. I know I would shout some people if i could IRL LoL.
BeliSaurus Gaming Yes I play a mage hunter build by myself But i use the dragon mask who uses the frost, ice and fire resistance + the lord stone (thanks to you)
Nah. I mean, I don't know, but I think the main spark was from my memory of good old tabletop RPG days. There was this character class in D&D 3.5 edition called the Forsaker. I think that's the main inspiration here.
I've been wanting to do this build for AGES, I think it's an awesome idea that allows for some versatility without spreading your perks (or health - magicka - stamina allocation) too thin. It also has some super cool role-playing choice ideas and it uses the Breton racial attributes in an awesome way. One thing though--does the Orcish war axe (7:39) actually have extra bleeding damage? I checked on the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages and it didn't line up. Other than that, love this awesome build!
This must be an old build! "Dear viewer or two". Do two orcish axes dual wielded not stack the bleed effects on top of each other? I read a post on the gamefaqs website that said weakness to magic poison increases the bleed effect. I havn't actually tested that though.
@@belisaurusgaming6192 Damnit! I like symmetry in my characters. I'd feel a little odd wandering around with two different styles of axe. Never really played with bleed damage though. Would it be worth it for a two handed battleaxe build do you think?

It's quite good. You have decent AR, you move fast and you have a shield. If you prioritise archers you will be fine. You can also take them down with a crossbow before jumping into direct combat. The build isn't the most OP thing ever, but it works against everything, especially if you move a lot and bash often.
@@johnbonas8346 Well, it's your game, he can wear whatever you want :) I just thought a strict no enchantments rule would be most appropriate. He will get very, very strong with some enchantments. The build is made so that he doesn't need it. Your call though.
