The new “Great Game” over mineral resources in Central Asia
Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyz Republic, rich in copper, uranium, gold, rare earth metals, oil, and gas, are becoming the epicentre of a modern version of the “Great Game”. Rising world prices make resources especially valuable, and the strategic interests of the world powers - China, Russia, and Western countries - compete fiercely for influence in the region. In response to these challenges, Central Asian countries need to develop a multi-layered strategy. Maintaining strategic alliances and developing new international partnerships will allow the region to balance the interests of the great powers, preserving its sovereignty and strengthening its position in the international arena.

On 19-20 June in Bishkek, we are re-launching the 10th MINEX Central Asia Mining and Exploration Forum bringing together regional governments, and local and international businesses to discuss the ongoing shifts and scenarios for sustainable development of the Mining and Metals Industry in Central Asia.
