  • Brands: Hefty, Glad, Kirkland, Amazon Basics, Reli, Neat, T.Foring, Full Circle, Commander, EKO, Perk, Steelcoat, Ox Plastics, HIPPO SAK, Tuff Bros, Hold On. Let’s compare a bunch of trash bag brands and find out which ones are leakers and which ones aren’t. We’ll also test a whole bunch of things like drawstring strength, puncture resistance, tear resistance, strength of the seam, gripping strength on the rim of the trash can, and more! By the end of this review, I believe you’ll be able to make a much more informed purchasing decision!

I gotta admit, though, what are people putting in their kitchen trash bags that we're testing nuts and bolts? They drive home the point about the respective toughness and durability. I have been a subscriber for years, back to the Seafoam in the Ranger tests. As a recently retired plastics engineer I have to say many of your tests are similar to industry tests. Tensil, tear, puncture all have ASTM standards used by everyone. One thing to consider is the thickness and formulation of the plastics in the bags. All bags are made to a pricepoint. Companies vary the resin mixes along with thickness to get the price they need to be competitive. At each of the manufactures I have worked at ( 8 by the way), they all have fit, leak and performance tests, similar but remarkably home made. Good Job on this review.

If I remember my materials science course from way back in the stone ages, the strength of plastic is relative to the speed at which it is pulled. A fast pull doesn't give the chains long enough time to straighten out, whereas a slower pull will allow them to straighten out and then it is more difficult to shear them in the long direction (Or am I wrong?) I seem to remember the professor saying you can actually see it happen with your naked eyes as the plastic deforms and becomes thinner yet stronger.

I've been buying them for several years now and I've always been happy with the way they performed relative to the other brands that I would have to buy once in a while if I ran out before a Costco trip. Not really related to your test, but one of the best mods I've made was drilling four 1/2" holes in the side of our trash can 2 down low a few inches from the bottom, and 2 near the top. It makes it so much easier for the air to escape from between the bag and then for the can to release the bag when it's full. I imagine pulling the bag out against the vacuum would be a common failure point.

    YEAAAAÀAAH
Perfect Project Farm, something I never thought to suggest be really need.
Recommendation construction and clean up bags!!!!!! Yard waste and construction bags are pricey, but everyone I know just uses the bag they always have.
As a contractor I spend at lease a $100 a month on bags.
    Do a re-usablility test!
It's better to have a bag instead of a trash can on a roof, ladder and crawlspace.
Include a drag test full of material. Broken tile would be good but for consistency use 6" or 8" rectangular POCELAIN tile. It's less likely to break and mess up the test with a point.
Include dust, sawdust in each drag test. Then test how much leaves out after the tile test. Hang a bag full and shake it? Put it on a shaker table? Concrete form vibrator is what you want 2 for under a 100 is easy. Heavier check out Denver Vibrator. Reasonable prices. Bet they would give you a deal for a recommendation, since the vibrator isn't being rated no conflict of interest.
A lot of people want a good vibrator. Cleaning material and reloading shells in a commercial level vibration table for under 200 ( if you can weld), is great.
I'll post this in the community area also.

I've been a Costco memebr for over 40 years and used Kirkland bags not sure for how long, however I always enjoy your videos and I am GLAD 🤣 That Kirkland came almost on top. Thanks again and not sure why you don't have 0ver 10 million subscribers yet.

Based on the video I would pick Kirkland but then he said glad was the best....

True Glad was better, but considering the price as well, can't beat Kirkland.@@turbot_

@@turbot_ Yeah at 16 cents a bag, he should have broken it down into "pure performance" winner and "best value" winner. Kirkland seemed to win for best value, also considering it has a typical drawstring that most people expect from a kitchen trash bag.

Well, Commander, you did it again! The puncture resistance and tear strength did me in but the rest of the tests were over the top too! If and when I have metal scraps I usually just have a 5-gallon bucket that needs to go with the steel and if we ever get into anything absurd, we use the big contractor bags or work it out with our trash guy ahead of time. Sweetums freezes liquid stuff so it goes into the trashmobile in a block and will melt later and we usually just get the bags that are the cheapest and don't overfill. Usually 3 a week and they're able to be slung into the trash truck bed without ripping. I deal with and without bags with tie straps and having to try and find the sides to open the bags up but whatever is here is what gets used. Hope things are mighty moderate down on the Farm and winter is winding down. Buds opening on the maples here and flowers easing up and you sure get plenty of exercise!. Happy weekend, Thanks and God Bless Yall!

Hi Lewie, Thank you very much for the positive feedback on the review! That's a great strategy for getting rid of the metal scraps. Also, that's a great strategy for making good use of the affordable bags while avoiding a mess! So glad that winter is indeed winding down. The longer days brings a big smile to my face as I love to soak up the sun. Wishing yall many BLESSINGS!!!

Ppl working on their cars need to throw away or haul away auto part for recycling sometimes. Sometimes a cardboard or platic box will do, sometimes bags are easier to deal with.
