1) you are not mentioning that the expedition of Usama was supossed to leave Medina long before Abu Bakr became Caliph and he was to be part of the expedition as per Muhammad saws order. The prophet saws before his death kept saying to dispatch the army of Usama and cursed whoever lacked behind.
2) Malik bin Nuwayrah was indeed a zakat collector appointed by the prophet saws over his tribe. Khalid bin walid was not on his way to fight him, Abu Bakr ordered him to go around Arabia and "spy" on the tribe. If he heard thr Athan and saw the people praying they were muslim if not they were apostate and to be killed. When he was near the tribe of Malik, some of his army claimed they heard the Athan some sais they did not. The tribe of Malik was rounded, they proclaimed the Shahada but Khalid beheaded them regardless and right away married the wife of Malik bin Nuwayrah. When Umar heard this he was furious and asked that Khalid be relieved of his position never to lead an army but Abu bakr refused.
Malik bin Nuwayrah refused to give the zakat because he did not agree on the Khalifa of Abu Bakr and wanted Ali to br Khalif.
Khalid wanted the wife of Malik thus he killed him claiming he was an apostate.
