Toro does play the solos, but never always the lead parts. Iero mainly plays lead in a ton of songs, his trademark being melodies that go along with the vocal melodies, hence why the original comment says why they hear the guitars sing the song. the bridge is the main contender here, Iero plays octaves that go directly with the vocal melody. they trade guitar roles in songs. Iero mainly playing lead melodies that are further back in the mix, usually in the chorus, and Toro playing rhythm on top of that, and then when the shreddy type guitar solos come up, Iero switches to rhythm, while Toro pops off. this explanation is not always accurate, there are a ton of exceptions to this, one notable song being em' hell kid.
