This one was requested by Bernard Dantuono who wanted it for his sister to celebrate 50 years of marriage and it is the song that she danced when she got married !

The Platters first recorded the song for Federal Records on May 20, 1954, but the recording was not released. In 1955, after moving to Mercury Records, the band re-recorded the song (on April 26) and it scored a major hit when it was released in May. In November that year, Federal Records released the original recording as a single (B-side - "You Made Me Cry") which sold poorly. Platters bass singer Herb Reed later recalled how the group hit upon its successful version: "We tried it so many times, and it was terrible. One time we were rehearsing in the car ... and the car jerked. Tony went 'O-oHHHH-nly you.' We laughed at first, but when he sang that song-that was the sign we had hit on something." According to Buck Ram, Tony Williams' voice "broke" in rehearsal, but they decided to keep this effect in the recording. This was the only Platters recording on which songwriter and manager Ram played the piano.
Played on my Alan Brason Stratocaster with Kinman FV-HMS pickups on mid posn through an Alesis quadraverb Q2 with EFTP patch 0-36 - Sound recorded in Cubase SX 6 and edited with the three 4K video takes in Sony Vegas pro 14.
I used a Karaoke Custom Backing track muted the vocal and backing vocals and downloaded it 1 semitone lower that the Eb the Platters recorded it in. So my recording is in the key of D.

Great cover of a true classic song Phil .It charted over here firstly by The Hilltoppers but The Platters version is far superior .

@@random275 When I was 10 and going to Cubs I went up to my pal`s house to to go with him and his sister was playing her new record by The Hilltoppers . That would be about Jan / Feb 1956 .The Platters came about 9 months later over here . At that time Pye records distributed Mercury and must have delayed issuing it in UK

Hello Phil, nicely done! I'm just curious, are you reading the Tab and if so...is it displayed on an Ipad (or something similar) or just your hand written version? Thank you... ;-)
Yes I make out pencil written Tabs on an A4 sheet of Tab paper and have it in front of me on a music stand. I then scan it and make it into a pdf and upload it to my website so anyone can download them. Cheers Phil

Are you trying to put tears in my eyes ??? This was my parents' "song" ; the one that they danced to on June 22, 1957 when they began their 50 years together . After two brothers and a sister, they made me possible in 1963 and since they both passed in 2007 & 2009 respectively, I can't hear this without getting misty-eyed. Ringo Starr's version affects me only a little bit less. Susan has said I should do this, but I'm not sure I'd make it through the session without breaking down !
