I dont know why people insist on taking risks with extended finals (10 mile or 5 mile) with traffic in the pattern. Just join the pattern like everyone else. Not worth the risk.

I'm not sure what ratings you have, but for IFR, the approaches are straight in (unless you circle for a different rwy). You need to have 6 approaches within the last 6 months to be IFR current. When you hear someone on a long final, it might be that they're flying an approach. Somebody's gotta be practicing 🤷.
Sometimes the runway is lined up with where you're coming from. If you can make it work with everyone else in the pattern, why make the extra pattern?
I know it sounds like 2 excuses back to back, but those might be some valid reasons for the straight in.
      Hopefully that helped.
