    Don't be that guy that rolls up to a shooting position and blows your load right away. Yes it looks cool slinging 16 hellfires downrange. But it's not cool when a majority of them miss.

      ngl I really hate people bringing 16 hellfires and throwing all of them at random trucks, theyre just like hornets spamraamers to me😅

    What video settings are you using? Reshade? Post recording processing? I couldn't belive your opening few minutes when you were looking at the copilot dash board. It looked 3-d. I thought maybe it was a VR image. Great tutorial as well, please do more!

    Great video ❤ ,, but I wonder how FCR differentiate between civilian targets and military targets ?? Like vehicles for example

    • @TomP-148
      @TomP-148  6 місяців тому +1

      It doesn't. I don't think it's modeled in DCS to pick up civilian traffic, at least I haven't. It doesn't have IFF either. That's why you want to PID or have some sort of Intel that what's in front of you is the enemy.

  • @bretttrommler756

    So.... This radar doesn't give any ground returns like an airborne A/G radar? I mean, if its looking for any targets, how does it know whats what? Im confused as to how this radar can pick up these random targets and know basically what they are. I guess I'm just use to jet stuff. I also kind of expected it to be a 360° radar, what with the full dome like a small boat radar. Are there gonna be diffrent modes with further updates?

    • @TomP-148
      @TomP-148  8 місяців тому +1

      1: I don't know how ED modeled their radar so I can't answer that
      2: Nope the radar is not 360, think of it as your jets mechanical radar that scans in front of you, but you can also point it 90° left & right. If you have to scan behind you, you probably shouldn't be in that area haha.
      3: Yes different modes are coming in the near future.

      @@TomP-148 Okay so I got it to work and actually managed to get some Hellfires onto some targets. Two things ... It will apparently, at least at this time, only show targets that are set in place in the mission builder. I'm guessing that if said targets were mobile it would show them as a moving target and track them. But I can't just slew to a building or whatever and lock that as a target. So no TOO, at least not at this time.
      Also, without the zoom function it is very difficult to differentiate targets that are close together. I had four targets spread out over the length on an old runway, about a mile, and from about 4 miles away, they were literally on top of each other.
      But, regardless, it was still pretty cool. I just need to learn how to hover and land.

    Wait.... At 6:04 did you say that one nautical mile is roughly half a kilometer? That's kinda backwards. One kilometer (3280 feet) is a shade over half a nautical mile (6076 feet).

    • @TomP-148
      @TomP-148  8 місяців тому

      Oh no I accidently said it backwards but correctly converted it a few seconds later, I should delete the video. Haha good catch.

      @@TomP-148 no, no... Anyone could do it. This video has helped me a lot. I'm still trying to figure this one out. I'm a recently retired aviation maintenance technician that specialized in avionics so I know how a radar works, but this one is giving me fits. I get the thing up and running but I get no scan and so no targets. I think it has something to do with getting the sight select to FCR but I'm not real sure what happens there. When I go left with my sight select, it just says out of limits, or it arms the rockets.

    • @bretttrommler756
      @bretttrommler756 8 місяців тому

    Great video. I can't fly the Apache, I have no problem with any of the other helicopters from DCS, but can only do the Apache from the front seat. First problem when I start it from side to side before I even get off the ground and this usually results in a crash. Once in the air it's not that much better very difficult time doing any type of maneuver. I have a Saitek x52 and I'm wondering if it is my joystick thats give me the problems. I'm not alone in this situation I've heard from several people there extremely disappointed in this particular module. Most say other than the maneuvering the helicopter the rest of it is great. I really wish DCS would remedy this situation. If you are able to fly this if and you don't mind what joystick are you using.

    • @TomP-148
      @TomP-148  8 місяців тому

      Thanks,
      It's hard to remedy a situation when the helicopter has real Apache SME'/pilots working on it and giving it feedback.
      All my buddies and I have no issues with it so maybe it's your hotas?
      Have you checked out bradmicks channel? He was an Apache instructor for many years and has a really good channel for teaching people to fly

    • @S1lverspike
      @S1lverspike 8 місяців тому +1

      I have an x52 and I find the Apache pretty easy to fly once you understand how to counter balance with rotor for torque. Also trim for when you’re flying.

    • @bretttrommler756
      @bretttrommler756 8 місяців тому

      I had a hard time at first, even with a fairly high end HOTAS (Winwing Orion 2). I found that if I give it just enough cyclic and forward stick to get it rolling forward at about 5-6 knots (with the tail wheel still locked) I can usually get it airborne fairly easily after that, without all the torque issues. That's how someone told me how to do it and it seems to work. Once airborne, you have to set your trim point which is usually a fair bit of forward stick and maybe a bit of rudder. I have my power lever set to around 102-103%, and I try to keep my cyclic where the torque shows around 95-100%. This will jump up above 100% in a hard maneuver. For me, when I get it dialed in like that, the thing is a blast to fly. Not particularly fast, but it is a helicopter.
      Now, all that being said, I have yet to master any kind of hover and my landings are.... Ugly. But I can get the thing in the air and maneuver.

    • @TomP-148
      @TomP-148  8 місяців тому

      @@bretttrommler756 You're doing something wrong. Power levers should be at all the way forward to "fly" and to take off into a hover you only need around 60% collective, even with a rolling start. I recommend starting slow, slowly pull up on the collective, around 30% is when you should be able to "feel" it starting to get lift. As you increase collective, increase small left pedal to counter the torque until you're airborne. After awhile you'll be able to just do it without much thought. For cruising you should only be around 80% collective in the D Model (in DCS). The only time you should be in the 90%+ area is if you're trying to reach a faster speed, 120+
      If you're flying around at 90%+ collective and you start maneuvering, lets say going defensive you'll be in the 100%+ real quick.

      Have you tuned the cyclic and pedal controls adding curves and or modifying the y axis saturation and perhaps a dead zone? Search UA-cam for Volk. He has a series on flying the Apache and goes over modifying the control axis tune and basic Apache flight. He helped me a bunch.
