A thoroughly decent man who has been soaking up some vicious flack for some time. Felix Jones is having an impact - yes our attack coach is getting English players up to speed on Jacque's defencive strategy and Ireland could not handle that rush defence or England's physicality. England will only get better. Now, at last, we can put this ridiculous " Ireland are the best team in the World" myth to bed. As Victor Matfield asked this week on the Boks Office ; "What have they won?".. and more to the point; who have they actually played since they bailed early at the WC? Won against a broken, fragile France. Won against Italy. Wow. Big Whoop. Won against a young inexperienced Wales in transition. Lost against a gritty, determined England who were written off . Best team in the World, se moer.
Great teams do it when it matters at WCs ,SA and NZ prove that every four years , as an Englishman I’m extremely happy with yesterday performance and result but let’s be honest it’s only the first step.
South Africa weren't playing. England won and deserved it. Please take your deploarbale arrogant sneeering somwhere else. Or maybe you'd like to discuss SA RWC winners being banned for drug taking, perhaps?
Class video. A lot of folk like to beat down on the English (including their own). They stood up big time and to be honest, often do when needed. Good to see the pride. Well played and this is a future championship winning side. Ireland have been gracious in defeat too 👏🏻
@@NTL578 That wasn't the game plan that lost to Scotland though. They threw 50% more passes than Scotland, had more carries, kicked less of their ball away, had the majority of possession and territory. They just dropped the ball a shit ton whilst doing it. Reminds me of the England side from 2003.... they seemed to have belief that they were not going to loose, even when they were 9 points down with 10 minutes to go.
Earl is ridiculously good. He has been amazing in literally every single international he's appeared in. England's best player at the world cup, the only player that still played well against Scotland imo. Just incredible and not even playing in his best position

It grows the game instead of souring it. Quality stuff Jim - break away from AG headline chasing! I’ve been sold on where this team is headed before this, I’m delighted more will join us now. As an irishman, amusing catchment at start of this podcast, how in the name of jaysus can England winning in Twickenham be a shock???? Complete rubbish, respect from Ireland 🇮🇪 👏 👍
@declanellis193 nobody on your side of the pond gave you a prayer, media and supporters, but believe me over here in Ireland media excluded knew this fourth round of five was the one that could make or break us, no shame losing to England in Twickenham, we almost pulled it off playing poorly but wouldn't have deserved it over the 80 minutes, interesting final weekend coming up, now we have 3 teams that could win the tournament and who knows it could be England if we make a balls of another game
What a great test match. Both teams gave heart and sole. Five / six nations is littered with these results when the dominant team of the day is beaten. Ireland are still the team to beat. As an English supporter, hats off to majority of Irish fans. Passionate to the last, very gracious in defeat. See you next year in Dublin opening weekend of six nations!
Don't understand why fans of England, Ireland and NZ, put so much pressure on their teams to win every game. Those Irish boys were looking devastated. I hope that the Irish, Engkish and Scottish media don't go over the top. Give your players a break.
The Irish media and Jamie Heaslip are not in any way representative of the Irish fans ! Well done England you absolutely smashed it and deserved to win - England fans, you too deserve it - give those boys a pat on the back.
Great summary Jim.For me,the most exciting part was finally seeing an Identify of this England.Feels like we might have finally landed on a way of playing that fits the team and is replicable
For France the first thing is take stock. Bound to be injuries after that game so need to recover as well as possible. Marcus Smith really showed something today. Going forward England can hang their hat on Martin, Earl, Smith & Feyi-Waboso as genuinely world class players
My only issue with Borthwick is I thought we had players we could have picked to do what we've done today but I do believe he is the right man. To me we are trying to match up the blitz defence with a Ireland style attack as mentioned in a few youtube analysts. We have terrific young players too and if we can get them introduced and experienced we could be a force
You were dead right Jim! I actually feel Ireland got off lightly at the end, England could easily have gotten the bonus point try. This feels like a benchmark game for England now, the potential they have to improve going forward from here is massive.
We needed this performance and win. Absolutely buzzing! Ireland have smashed it and the six nations is theirs again. So proud of the players and was getting worried that we missed a few kicks at goal thinking that was gonna cost us. 🏴🍺🏉
Jim, you asked in your 13.33 minute perfectly timed pod today, "Did England shock the world?" Super question. Yes. why? Or How? Two words, closely connected: Intent and Intensity. Capital letters and all. England’s performance has shocked the rugby public and the general rugby public. Headline sports news, also in other countries (I’ve checked). There was not a crumble away as at Murrayfield, also against Wales and less so, Italy. No slow retreat into the dark London night. No, they kept at it. And Twickenham, well done. A 16th man? The noise was awesome. There is love there. On the field, better decision-making in D, and spotting gaps which is not always easy for punters to see from a helicopter view, let alone in the thick of it. Well done lads, and well done Big Jim. And well done Ireland. Who are gracious in review of defeat (if not preview of victory) and no blame culture. But this was a shock, no doubt, and this was about England did well, not the other way round. And it was a nail-biting finish, what an advert for the game. Your belief, Jim, and others, normally Goodie, helps us England fans, especially overseas, and I think the best point you make is that rugby - not least the 6 Nations - needs a decent England outfit; as they have done this weekend, to create jeopardy in a tournament that somehow keeps moving the sweet game forward. The drama, theatre and spectacle is getting better week-on-week. At times, they forced Ireland’s hand on the pitch and as the best team - machine, on the planet, or second best, the boys in green looked not ordinary, but a bit flummoxed and at times, a bit clueless even at critical moments. That's pressure, I imagine (cf. France at the last RWC). Yellow card and late box kick. No individual errors though, or great moments, decided this game, because rugby, godot bless it, is greater than the sum of its wonderful parts. I thank you. From Matthew, Matty-Boy, in Denmark. Farvel! 😉
That was the best I've seen England attack in a long time. Love George Martin, and was pleasantly surprised how well Chessum played at 6. Earl is a star, Feyi Wayboso will be a star. I can't say I love the selection of Daily even on the bench, and I would love to see another prop & outside centre emerge but if England continue to play like this I will be happy.
Yeah I think Hayes and Josh Ieosefa-Scott at 3 are the props for the next WC. Marchant is returning to England so I’d imagine he’ll be taking dalys spot.
IRE fan here. Disappointed, but Eng really brought game today, for the full 80. Thoroughly deserved the win. Eng managed to disrupt key elements of the Irish game, the line out and ruck in particular . Smart approach, with the physicality to pull it off. I did really like Andy Farrell's reaction post game. We're going to learn from losing and it's part of the growth process. Excellent approach. Anyway, well done England.
Fair do's to you Jim for calling this. TBH I was worried about the result, not because of the selection, but the apparent gameplan in previous games. However this was a massive performance against a brilliant Irish team. One swallow doesn't make a summer, so hopefully we'll build on this v France. Don't change anything, let's get some consistency. Feel for CCS getting injured, he was monstrous in his cameo.
Great comments Jim - also fairplay for calling out your partner in crime, Andy Goode. Fair criticism is fine but important to be supportive & get behind your team both in good & bad times
Huge improvement in England in that match the speed the accuracy of ball was brilliant bit disappointed in our lads performance but hats off to the english lads next years six nations will be fun.
Totally agree Jim. Englsnd were always a chance. Well done England, thoroughly deserved... and I'm Irish. BTW just what Ireland needed before a tour to SA.
Fair play to Borthers totally changing his boring kicking game for an exciting running game. The right players now playing the right way. No complaints here.
Dont know what Heaslip was talking about?! Nobody i know in ireland were feeling cocky. But i was surprised how they fronted up. Seriously was not expecting that. Great game. Ive been on the winning side of last minute drop goals. Its a sweet moment. 6 nations is legend. 2 super games today. Gutted but we roll on.🇮🇪☘️
Heaslip was talking a bit tongue in cheek, lets not roast him too much - but do roast the pundits arrogance, across all countries, the Irish team, feel for them, were never arrogant, the Six Nations can never be predicted - the English lads must be feeling great, good for them, love rugby
Well read, Jim. Many of us thought we might give a game - and even sneak it - but we’re too nervous to say it. Any team which thinks it’s much better than the other team is at an immediate disadvantage. That was the feeling we wanted Ireland to have - and Jamie Heaslip helped immensely in that respect (without him being wrong. England, as per last year, would have been thumped by Ire). We have to hope the new more varied, dynamic, positive, physical and heads-up England will continue. If you look at yesterday’s stats, you need to wonder how they nearly lost it.
What they did today is what they tried against Scotland. The difference was the execution. England had 1 or 2 handling errors from a line break attack/offload. Whereas in the Scotland game there were so many that it made for what the coaches were trying to acheive look horrible. You can see what Felix Jones jones is trying to achieve coming to forefront. The coaches said it would take around 15 games (which is so many considering there isn't many Test matches a year) for the plans and what they're being coached to come together and click. We see it happening last night. Was a great team performance, have to say i've never seen fans like the Irish fans last night and today be so gracious in defeat, i've barely seen any negative comments from them. Refreshing to see, i think they appretiated how much of a monumental task it was to beat this world class irish team. They are still a class above right now, but it just shows England are on the right track.
As an England fan feeling pretty good. Was a bit of a roller coaster, most satisfying was England had to win that a few times over too. I thought at HT England would fade and weren't clinical enough in the first half with domination they had. Needs to be backed up with another performance next weekend. Finally England weren’t pefect and plenty of room for improvement which hoepfully they do. Commiserations Ireland. A 6:2 bench always has the potential to backfire and the timing of thise HIA's could hardly have been wosrse.
Before this tournament started, I though England can build into this competition with the way the games panned out for them and the talent they had available . With all the handling errors against Scotland, I wrote them off but you could see the green shoots of a more expansive game. The much maligned additional fallow week really benefited them from a cohesive point of view. They are definitely favourites now going into the France game. Our 6-2 split came back to bite us with those early injuries and the O’Mahony yellow took another brick out of an already pummelled dam. I put my head in my hands when Murray kicked, oh why oh why would you give a ball back to them. I knew it was over before it was over. Ireland needing only a loosing bonus point to Scotland to win the competition but I’d like this great Irish team to finish with a convincing win.
You called it, and I thought you were either mad or were being mischievously provocative... But you were right. When did England last show so much commitment AND ambition?
As an Ireland and England supporter, my sixth sense told me England would win this. They can never be written off, they’re a team in development and this was waiting to happen when the new system clicked across attack and defence. Now they need to maintain it.
It feels like Spring has arrived for this England team at last. Winter lasted a long time. Ireland still deserve to win the Championship, but Scotland will be desperate to bounce back too! It's rare to have back to back shocks in the 6N, so next week will probably go closer to expectations...
Good appraisal Big fella (and brave prediction 😬). CCS injury a proper pity, what a player, D or A. M Smith has to start with F Smith as backup, more so given his club mate, Mitchell, is at 9. Liked Itoje taking the armband after JG went off, his game level does not drop and he's an excellent skip. 12 remains the perennial problem for England though. Lawrence is a 13, and frequently pops up at 13 (or wing as seen) in multi-phase. Max Ojomoh or Ollie Hartley perhaps? Also, I'd like to see big Joe C back in the mix if his Bath form continues upwards.
Thanks to Jamie Heaslip for the England team talk

Well said
Great teams do it when it matters at WCs ,SA and NZ prove that every four years , as an Englishman I’m extremely happy with yesterday performance and result but let’s be honest it’s only the first step.
South Africa weren't playing. England won and deserved it. Please take your deploarbale arrogant sneeering somwhere else. Or maybe you'd like to discuss SA RWC winners being banned for drug taking, perhaps?
You mean your Irish coach who improved your defence?
@@johndonson1603really boet this is 6Nation stop blowing your trumpet...Capetownion
Great chat... thanks Jim.
Was the first time I can recall most South Africans supported the Poms for a game. We'll done Poms.
Class video. A lot of folk like to beat down on the English (including their own). They stood up big time and to be honest, often do when needed. Good to see the pride. Well played and this is a future championship winning side. Ireland have been gracious in defeat too 👏🏻
So much for Goodey and his ‘trouble in the England camp’
To be fair, he did also call the fact that the keep it tight, kick the leather of it, game plan of the last few years needed to go.
@@NTL578 That wasn't the game plan that lost to Scotland though. They threw 50% more passes than Scotland, had more carries, kicked less of their ball away, had the majority of possession and territory. They just dropped the ball a shit ton whilst doing it. The game plan this tournament had clearly shifted away from those tactics already though. It just hadn't functioned as well as today, yet. If Goode thinks they are still kicking the leather of it then either he isn't watching or needs a new gig. Jim's by a distance the better pundit these days.
@@thebaldmanwithlonghair6470Goodey an embarrassment of late. Shame as I met him one time at Twickenham and he made a lot of effort. But he just has no clue.
He may not be wrong. England has a knack for playing big games every now and then that surprises. They just about never do it consistently.
Tbh Goody tries too hard to express his failings over the years via Englands performances, I think it’s more to do with his hair, or lack of…..😅
Take aside the result, just a fantastic test match and even a bit if niggle between the coaches. Love it. Pleased that England are starting to grow under Borthwick and Ireland showed their class and were mighty close despite it not being their best day. ❤️ The six nations
South african here. This should put the loss to the springboks in perspective. This England team nearly beat us.
Ireland did beat you! What does that say?

Great call big Jim respect
Very impressed by England as an Englishman! This Ireland team are a seriously good team to edge out nowadays so huge credit to us! 🏴
Big luv Jim, very proud English here , no doubt Ireland class outfit, against very proud England 😊😊
It certainly made my weekend! Well played England. They delivered. Hoping they take huge confidence from pulling this out of the bag at the death.
A fantastic game by England they had strength from 1-15 one of the best games I’ve seen them play for a long time . Love your show by the way Jim 👍🏻
Nice segment, Jim - lots of energy & humour - and I agree with you 100%.
well done england from a scotsman. well said jim
4 games in to a rebuild. The plans and processes have been building each week. Despite Goodeys best efforts Jim has seen it too. Spot on and always fair. Filled with empathy. Thank you! It grows the game instead of souring it.
Quality stuff Jim - break away from AG headline chasing!
I’ve been sold on where this team is headed before this, I’m delighted more will join us now. No changes for France I’m just gutted for CCS. He deserved to be jumping up and down on that pitch and heading to France.
As an irishman, amusing catchment at start of this podcast, how in the name of jaysus can England winning in Twickenham be a shock???? Complete rubbish, respect from Ireland 🇮🇪 👏 👍
No one gave us a prayer 😂
None of us saw that performance coming, just because of how good you guys have been.
Have you been watching rugby for the last 3 six nations ?
What a great test match. Both teams gave heart and sole. Five / six nations is littered with these results when the dominant team of the day is beaten. Ireland are still the team to beat.
As an English supporter, hats off to majority of Irish fans. Passionate to the last, very gracious in defeat. See you next year in Dublin opening weekend of six nations!
Love your enthusiasm and love for the game Jim.
Only change is smith to start for me, happiest I’ve been as an England fan since we beat the all blacks in the 2019 semi final
Highly enjoyable 6N game.
Ollie Chessum was a revelation at No. 6.
For France the first thing is take stock. Bound to be injuries after that game so need to recover as well as possible. Marcus Smith really showed something today. Going forward England can hang their hat on Martin, Earl, Smith & Feyi-Waboso as genuinely world class players
Nice one Jim. There are so many media trolls and you’re not one of them. England and Borthwick answered their numerous critics again. Great game.
Definitey happy watchin Enland right now. Hopefully they can maintain this game to game now.
You were dead right Jim!
I actually feel Ireland got off lightly at the end, England could easily have gotten the bonus point try. This feels like a benchmark game for England now, the potential they have to improve going forward from here is massive.
Well done DannyC...you are in amaizing form.
Well said Jim! Can’t wait for the rugby pod this week! Gooooody will be buzzing!
Wow
Been listening to a lot of people not having much time for what SB is building
Big performance today
Love your enthusiasm
Great game, great win. Not just the result but how played , full on in their faces
Farvel! 😉
Loved that but better if you can do some paragraph spacing...tough read...🤣
Im still buzzin
Me too mate, this is why we love the sport 🏴🏉
That was the best I've seen England attack in a long time. Love George Martin, and was pleasantly surprised how well Chessum played at 6.
Earl is a star, Feyi Wayboso will be a star. I can't say I love the selection of Daily even on the bench, and I would love to see another prop & outside centre emerge but if England continue to play like this I will be happy.
Yeah I think Hayes and Josh Ieosefa-Scott at 3 are the props for the next WC.
Marchant is returning to England so I’d imagine he’ll be taking dalys spot.
Agree about Martin and Chessum was great , that tackle on Bundee Aki near the sideline was epic .
It's only a shock to people like Andy Goode who doesn't understand modern rugby tactics.
Yes it was exciting and heartening well done England!
From a neutral. England fully deserved the win. The scoreline flatters the Irish. England left a lot of points on the field.
Rarely seen Big Jim so energised!
Huge improvement in England in that match the speed the accuracy of ball was brilliant bit disappointed in our lads performance but hats off to the english lads next years six nations will be fun.
Ben Earl, and Underhill are a fantastic combination.
Immediate analysis is great right after the games, keep it up 1/4 English big Jim
Happy? best weekend ever!,this and AJ last night!
No one likes AJ
@@Jack-qv5ru🤣🤣🤣🤣
You’re at least a quarter English Jim! Well called - I called it too, I could feel it coming!
@johngarveyire I know but his words were used by all the English pundits and no doubt Steve Borthwick to inspire an exceptional English performance.
Very magnanimous of you mate. A wonderful game as you say!
This was a crazy rugby weekend across the board and it’s not even done yet!
It’s the happiest I’ve been after an England match ever. I wasn’t alive in 2003
I was absolutely buzzing mate 🏴🏉
Rugby needs England to have a good game every now and again .
Seeing the Irish players faces on a plane before the game - that must have been a great motivation to the English players!!
England beat themselves in that Scotland game with handling errors, easy missed tackles and knock ons.
Ben Earl!! The guy took it to Ire.
They’ve got to play like this and better Jim… to be worlds best x
As an England fan feeling pretty good. Was a bit of a roller coaster, most satisfying was England had to win that a few times over too. I thought at HT England would fade and weren't clinical enough in the first half with domination they had. Needs to be backed up with another performance next weekend. Finally England weren’t pefect and plenty of room for improvement which hoepfully they do.
Commiserations Ireland. A 6:2 bench always has the potential to backfire and the timing of thise HIA's could hardly have been wosrse.
Listened carefully Jim & agreed with you. Something has been brewing. ✊👍👏
From the moment Furbank caught that first kick, and then absolutely motored on that diagonal run, you knew this was a different England.
