I was so lucky to accidentally go see Sarah playing live three weeks ago and was blown away! (Other musicians playing with her were also badasses!) so I’m really excited to see Peter and her playing live in this set up! Amazing!

Reminds me of one of my favorite Herbie albums - The Piano, where he recorded direct to disc all in one take (did the same with the headhunters on directstep)! Can't wait to see it!

Not crazy at all, in my experience to the average listener the most exciting part of jazz is the spontaneity and freedom. If you have musicians of Peter's caliber planning too much might actually be a negative.

18:52 That's so true, maybe because every subsequent "take", after that first one, is like a historical reenactment. Like, okay now that we've met, do you mind if I go back out that door, so we can film us "meeting for the first time" again?
You're doing this on my b-day, fab. I always feel like, if you disallow the possibility of editing anything after the fact... probably at your level, people don't need to hold back a little to make sure they don't mess up... Personally I prefer it to be on edge, it's just that in 2023, I know some people expect absolutely perfect results, and somehow don't abide by "perfectly imperfect". Probably those are pop fans more than jazz fans.
Also, I know how "a little editing" can become a slippery slope. It's just that I can't imagine being good enough to pull this off, even though I've seen enough great musicians play, to know that of course you can be good enough to pull this off. And I wouldn't be watching these vids if I didn't think you could. I might be busy during the actual performance (b-day, after all) but I'll catch it ASAP
When I record improvs, there are almost always parts where I'm like, oh that's a clam bed, gotta excise tax it... snip snip
They got time to practise, no biggie, also I expect to the show for this album come to Ronnie Scotts in London!
