Leiter Jr is the perfect situation. Minor league find, turns into value pitcher for two years, then gets some prospects in return on a trade. Perfectly done.
Thank you Matt! I have a bad feeling we are going to run out the same team after Spring training. Jed and Craig will use all the injuries we had. Love the show!
With Jed essentially standing pat, the Paredes trade makes much more sense. Belli will be the DH for the foreseeable future while his finger heels fully. That would have required Morel to play third every night.
Good job Matt thanks for keeping me informed buddy im at work and just seen your notification you and mick Gillespie are always on it brother much love from haleyville Alabama
It always amazes me that so many fans get involved in the salaries of players. I could care less how much Ricketts spends. More concerned about ticket prices/ food at the park
Aside from Paredes, this lack of meaningful activity tells me what I need to know about 2025. The Cubs will continue down the path of middle of the road value contracts and not be aggressive. It has been run more like a business (as opposed to all in for winning) since 2017 and will continue to be. I expect the off season to be a dud.
Now I understand Tampa better, contract time trade like the 3rd baseman get top minor leaguers an retool,Tampa is never real bad,an keeps money low,now if they could get a closer
Cubs swindled the Yankees. Leiter might be decent for a couple of years and then fall off the cliff due to age. The two young players the Cubs got should be productive for the next 10 to 15 years. And anyway, Leiter is only good for maybe 1 inning 3 or 4 games a week and he's not even a closer. Cubs got a potential closer and someone who can potentially be in the lineup every day.
Hey Cubs fans don't get too excited about this trade both players are raw and there is a reason that they were #22 @#29 in the Yankees organization. That said they needed to trade Hoerner , Happ or Suzuki, Neris Taillon and give Hendricks away and possibly Assod while his trade value is good. Give the kids a chance to play. Shaw ,Cassie, Triantos ,Alcantera, Ballesteros ect . Sorry for the spelling
Unfortunately Happ and Suzuki have no trade contracts. Big mistake. Both are very inconsistent and we have great corner outfielders languishing in the minors.
If the Cubs are thinking about 2025, why did they get a minor leaguer who just broke his wrist and will not the rest of this year. Players don't tend to come back quickly from broken wrists. It takes time to build back the muscles and hand speed. Will take all of next year to really come back.
More prospects , just what they need .Where are all these guys going play and in how many years from now ? Always dreaming about the future and what might be . What about now and next season ? None of these guys have proven anything yet and most of them never will and most are years away anyway . I have absolutely no trust in Hoyers BS prospects unless he's going to use them to acquire a couple of real MLB stars which they don't have any presently on this horrible team . This disaster is going on 4 years and it looks like more to come . How many more years do the fans have to suffer through before they get serious about adding a couple of stars and superstars to this team ? It took 108 years last time and it might take that long again at this rate .
What normal MLB team rebuilds twice in 4 years ? All You hear about is prospects . I've seen enough of those Morel , Crow-Armstrong , Amaya , Mervis , Alzolay , and more , all failures . Hoyer always passes on star power and settles for the second or third choice or signs people they didn't need ( Swanson , Counsell ) all the while hyping up their overrated prospects . Go out and get some real MLB talent Hoyer . They haven't had a real leadoff hitter since 2016 , and when was the last time they had a legitimate home run threat ? There's nothing in their system that fills those needs and how long do we have to wait to find that out ? Ricketts must have his head up his ass to let this keep happening every year. Either that or Hoyer's got him brainwashed real good .
And that's all the other moves we make...this team is pathetic...maybe Jed does need to go after next season...I'm tired of a President who doesn't have the balls to do whats right.
Pearson and Neely I like what they are doing get some flamethrowers in there with nice stuff Leitier Jr splitter is going good now but if it isn't then he gets hit hard usually!!!

This was a solid trade

Thanks for the update Matt! LET'S GO CUBS!!! ⚾️ ✌️ 💙 🐻

Yeah I mean the Heyward dump didn’t kill the cubs finically for a while. As a fan I’d like my owner to buy players and not go bankrupt
It's all connected, Brad my boy
The Rickets do. So if they spend $ on the wrong players the team loses and the fanbase suffers.
And then the Cubs quit for the day.
Pathetic
Thanks Matt!
I am so happy that the cubs got some good value out of Leiter, hope he does well with the Yankees, except when we play them!😊
Matt great breaking news. Professional in my opinion .Keep up the great work. LOVE IT. + CUBS are fun to follow. with your show.
I guess it’s solid. Would love to see it works out
Leiter is THIRTY THREE?! Wow would not have guessed that
As a life long Yankee fan, Neely is a great get for the Cubbies.. he might be as good as Leiter right now.
Agree, has a really high upside(and size!) to miss lots of bats, and seems maybe ready to support bullpen in 2025 hopefully)
Leiter found his niche with the Cubbies. Best of luck to him. Getting traded to a contender has to be exciting! We get two very talented prospects!

Honestly not a bad trade nice young prospects
Really hoping that some of the prospects make the club and make a difference. Or get used as currency for a bigger move. We will see

The Cubs would struggle playing a minor league team right now. Watch them lose the series 0-3 to the horribly awful Reds.
So this offseason the main needs
Catcher
Bullpen
Trade Happ or Suzuki
Trade Hoerner
Trade Tailion
I'd like us to get rid of Neris. I'm tired of turning the game off when he takes the mound!!
Would love a Nico/Neris to Red Sox for Teel and a pitching prospect.
Neris is willing to be a closer, but he desperately needs vital help from home plate umpire and defense to record each out. Nerve wracking!!!
Attention fair weather fans, Jed isnt the GM. Do your homework before commenting.

I wonder how mad Matt’s wife gets when Sam can’t do something “breaking”. 😂
Agree it’s a sell high though
I just don’t like dealing with the Yankees and/or dodgers, but I knew Leiter was going somewhere, too bad it wasn’t Neris instead
I can't believe they aren't gonna trade Taillon or Bellinger. What the hell are we keeping them for?
Cubs were bereft of bullpen consistency and help finally ML was just getting back into form and then they trade him. Hmmm 🤔
2024 is a lost cause. The bullpen in 2025 will be completely overhauled and undoubtedly much better.
BOTH arms they got for him are phenomenal. This was a sell high trade man. We got waaay more back.
This was the example of everyone having a price.
Jed been drinking all day

;plays all around the infield'...can't they ever find a guy solid at one position?...
Queue the “Jed has ruined this franchise and taken the lives of all of our families” comments 😂
If he was rebuilding again then yes I might say it😂
@@JacobHampton-h4e He is rebuilding

@michaelboldyga6239 It happens when a rebuild fails...look at all the teams who are perpetually in the gutter

Cubs looking forward to 2025 and 2026. We will see if this works out or not. Not a fun season for the Cubs.
Big loss
So we trade our only relatively consistent reliever…ok
He’s 33
Pearson and Neely I like what they are doing get some flamethrowers in there with nice stuff Leitier Jr splitter is going good now but if it isn't then he gets hit hard usually!!!
Cubs got screwed.
I did not like him
You make it sound like a good deal, Matt, so we’re counting on a Cy Young winner out of one of these prospects 😊
It probably won't be the shortstop

Thanks Matt!
