Brennan, unfazed, in his calmest voice ever: "So, uhh... you're going to get ripped apart, amazing. Also you are witnessing all the horrors of man kind. Let's take a little break here guys."
It is so wonderfully and horrifically logical that it absolutely makes sense even though it isn't true. Brennan is such a master of creating characters and then breathing life into them even if it doesn't seem possible.
@@raeg1100 That's the philosophy major in Brennan. I consistently see it play out through his ability to catch lines of reasoning within the world or the characters and follow them to their logical conclusion.
Imagine that you and your sibblings owned a pet. Like maybe hamster. It's pretty terrible that one sibbling wants to put down the dog. But it is way more F8cked up that the other sibbling would rather imprison the sibbling instead. That escalated quickly

"Xerxes, the bar has been set! Come meet me, brother!" is a line that, if it appeared unchanged in a battle scene of, say, LotR or 300 or some other popular movie, would enter the popular imagination as surely as Rohirrim's "DEATH!", "For Frodo" or "Tonight we dine in hell!".
Travis’s reactions are so much more hilarious knowing that at the end of last episode before the group went into the tree and started this sh*t, he chose to go home and check on his kids. So they’re all rolling all their dice for damage and their magical artifacts and stuff, and he just gets to chill like “Thank God I’m not there. That would suck” but also, “Brennan is killing all my friends and finds it so enjoyable”.
The greatest proof of Brennan's mastery of dismantling his players with EVIL isn't the first hour/second of carnage and Archdevilry. It's the fact that AFTER ALL THAT he managed to get a 20-25 seconds of shellshock and Travis's "What is wrong with Brennan, you guys" with A LINE FROM A RANDOM BACKSTABBING PIRATE. Oh yeah. He fully told D20 to have back up characters for Crown of Candy. He came for the jugular and doesn’t stop till it’s over. It makes for such thrilling story telling.
I wouldn't be surprise if the whole table, including Brennan, need to be driven home by the end of this episode. They all been through emotional wringer through out this episode I can only imagine how exhausted they all were.
@@portagenial The "Chapter 3" finale of our Vampire: The Masquerade campaign was 9 hours long :') We started at 3pm and finished at midnight. It was an absolute thrill. My character kept being reckless and making mistakes and I got knocked out 3 times. A friend who's not in the party, but played in a one-shot as a now-NPC, spontaneously joined in via video chat when his character unexpectedly showed up. And the "face" of the party, the "practically the protagonist", my character's low-key crush, everyone's favourite due to her unexpected nutty antics as a Malkavian, died to save everyone else. It was only a month ago and it still hurts and amazes me how incredible it was.
Aabria mentioned in an interview that parts of Fey and Flowers, which shares Lou, her, and Brennan, were recorded on the same days as Calamity. So add that emotional whiplash to the pile.
I think what gets me so much is Travis, because he has spoken so much about not being that into the whole 'D&D thing' when he was younger and looking down / being intimidated by those who do. Watching him just break at Laerryn's line 'My best...finally' is just so wonderful
10:39 That's when Travis' soul left his body. I never saw this expression this close on my computer screen. It was heart breaking to witness him with that expression, even if it was just "acting".
Everything Travis does and did in those last few minutes of this campaign wrecked me. I cried for hours. Thank you for the zoom in, it’s very appreciated
I honestly think this episode is the most intense of the entirety of Critical Role, even more than the climactic fight against Vecna or the emotional C1 sendoff episode. Too many amazing moments, in all the best of ways.
My favorite bit is when brennans gonna roll for damage, the table hears the amount of dice he's shuffling in his hands and everyone is staring in quiet horror....the lou with the best friend energy "HOW MANY DICE ARE YOU ROLLING YOU F*CK?!"

i very clearly state in the video description that this is taken from critical role and for people to watch the whole episode. this is merely a best-of, if you will, of a video that is over five hours long.
Brennan is gonna run a horror campaign for Dimension 20 next season and after seeing what he did here, YIKES i’m excited
Yeah, I feel like d20 saw how much everyone loved Brennan's horrifying mood for EXU and said "let's do more of that?"

Every campaign Brennan runs has potential to become a horror campaign wdym.
