***** About Venison for Dinner *****
Thank you for joining us on this crazy journey! Our family- Kate and Marius plus our five kids, have always enjoyed living a homemade life whenever possible. Moving 1000 miles north in 2017 to Northern BC, Canada upped our game even more. We live on a 34 acre homestead and get a kick out of things like raising our own meat, dairy and vegetables. Theres plenty of failures, you’ll be sure to see those here too. We’re a homeschooling family who believes life is the best teacher but we do hit the books in winter. I’m so glad you’re here, I hope you stick around!
We put out 2 new videos every week! Wednesday and Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

It's going to get colder 😁😁 Hubs got home from BC wednesday now we are really on full mode to get everything ready for winter but The kids have almost all our wood pitched into the basement and stacked .

FWIW, stanchion training yearling saanens is much easier than training Nubians. I did pause the video at the book and went and ordered that book. Husband is a conservationist by trade, so it’ll be a great family read aloud!

I will have to check out that book. One of my favorite books is Ruffles On My Longjohns by Isabel Edwards which is set in 1913 by lonesome lake and Bella coola.

If you don't put seasoning in your mashed potatoes there is a mashed potato candy recipe I use that has coconut in it. You would never know when you are eating the candy that there is mashed potatoes inside. I wait and tell people after they love them that they have mashed potatoes inside. LOL

Yay .... get a goat!! We raise nubians and lamanchas I highly recommend them. If you can can buy a 2 or 3 year old that would be best that way you will know how well their attachment is and production

Kate I have a Roo who has the same temperament as yours. O carry a snow shovel year round just for Rooster. In the winter he tends to leave me alone if the snow is deeper as he can't run away from me easily. This 66 year old Grammy has been known to chase him all around the yard especially if he has chased the Grands.

Oh that rooster.. been there. Ours was named Jethro Tull because just before he mated, he would hop around on one leg. He hated me. My husband said the same thing as M. until he got him on his ankle and drew blood. Jethro met his end with a two X 4 golf like swing at that moment. Just wait!

    Hi There
The Biegel Family have a youtube channel and they are in Alberta. They have a whole flock of milk goats and may be able to help you. They have lots of videos about cheese making and they have a website and email contacts in their channel description.
All the best from the UK 🇬🇧. Paula
Ps... I like left over mashed potatoes to make potato farles (an Irish potato bread eaten at breakfast with bacon and eggs. Its great for freezing once mad, gnocchi which is also stable for freezing once made and just a thickener for a soup or stew. XOXO

If you have a rooster who is attacking and you want to keep him to keep the girls safe, have Marius help you catch him, pop off the outside hull of his spurs, trim the under growth down and control bleeding with styptic powder or some other method. The outer hard covering will grow back but it won’t be sharp and penetrating. I have one who kept attacking and terrified grandkids. When I heard that one homesteader had one attack their child and embed the sour into their child’s skull and it required surgery I decided that we would use the hot potato on spur trick with pliers to twist and pop off, it worked well,

Thank you. I usually soak my wool sweaters in a large sink with a gentle detergent. Rinse, then carefully squeeze out the water without twisting. Rolling up sweater in a towel then standing on it works brilliantly. Then hang it to dry. Full disclosure my work sweaters get pretty dirty before I do a big sinkful of wool items.
