I could sense the sexual tension since the beginning. I am glad they addressed it. It was nice to see Toni evolve and try to understand Shelby instead of thinking everyone and everything is against her. Honestly, I felt so bad for Shelby when they finally showed her backstory especially considering how she tried to be useful and optimistic during the whole time on the island. I hope to see more of them together in the next season.

Basically she kissed her best friend and her best friend told her parents. Since she's a repressed gay, she lied and said it wasn't her and basically blamed her best friend. I'm pretty sure her best friend passed away and she felt guilty about it because Shelby still loved her. Her parents sent her to the island basically to change her mind about liking girls. (didn't work lol) It's more tragic if you watch the entire season because you get to see how she tries to be positive about everything when she's hiding herself.
Am I the only one that noticed Shelby’s hair is a representation of her sense of self-control/repression? When we see her on the plane her hair is straight and in a tight ponytail but as the show goes on it gets more and more wild. When we see her post-rescue she’s shaved it off completely. No other characters lost complete control over her hair the way Shelby did.

This reminds me of my first date with a girl, she was awesome and gorgeous and just vibrant. Later that night after I got home ,late, I was rehearsing what I was going to tell my dad. I was shaking and couldn't concentrate, I didn't know what to say, then he said something that floored me. "Did she respect you and did you respect her? I feel Shelby in a personal way. Living in a Christian home and liking girls. It’s hard to trust people, especially when things have gotten around to your parents. You tend to shut it down but when you get the opportunity, it’s the best thing but a scary time as well
I think her isolation was her finally facing her truth. Not just about her sexuality but but also her friends death. I think all of them had to face the very thing they were all running from. Even though the experience was devastating being stuck on an island I do believe they all needed it.
The moment she tried to befriend martha and kept trying to pry her about boys, shelby was already checking to confirm if martha was into women because her gaydar was activated and it was so obvious that toni and shelby were into each other. I agree with this in theory. Equality regardless of sexual preference. I think for *their* story specifically, it wasn't supposed to be all ~fire~ and ~passion~ and the desire for sex. I think it was about the really aggressive one turning soft, and the really "perfect" one coming to terms with herself, and that process can be slow and gentle and how people change for it. That seemed way more powerful to me than them just like really going at it like Leah and Fatim, who are completely confident sexually. I guess they could have had soft *intimate* scenes beyond just kissing, but I thought they actually did this really beautifully.

I could sense the sexual tension since the beginning. I am glad they addressed it. It was nice to see Toni evolve and try to understand Shelby instead of thinking everyone and everything is against her. Honestly, I felt so bad for Shelby when they finally showed her backstory especially considering how she tried to be useful and optimistic during the whole time on the island. I hope to see more of them together in the next season.

Shelby was involved in the pageant world and is part of a very religious household. Basically she kissed her best friend and her best friend told her parents. Since she's a repressed gay, she lied and said it wasn't her and basically blamed her best friend. I'm pretty sure her best friend passed away and she felt guilty about it because Shelby still loved her. Her parents sent her to the island basically to change her mind about liking girls. (didn't work lol) It's more tragic if you watch the entire season because you get to see how she tries to be positive about everything when she's hiding herself.

I agree with this in theory. Equality regardless of sexual preference. I think for *their* story specifically, it wasn't supposed to be all ~fire~ and ~passion~ and the desire for sex. I think it was about the really aggressive one turning soft, and the really "perfect" one coming to terms with herself, and that process can be slow and gentle and how people change for it. That seemed way more powerful to me than them just like really going at it like Leah and Fatim, who are completely confident sexually. I guess they could have had soft *intimate* scenes beyond just kissing, but I thought they actually did this really beautifully.
