He could have used his own money to make a hush money payment, and it wouldn't be illegal. That's not what makes the scenario illegal.
You cannot take election money, from a nonprofit account, from all sorts of donors and sources, and use it for a purpose which it is NOT legal and then hide it. It's really not complicated. It's election finance fraud. Which is prosecuted all the time.
The most damning thing is that he paid an adult actress (why?) to be silent (about what?). Why is the President doing such things? This payment to an attorney was made ever before he was running , years before he said he was running- there wasn’t a fund or a pool to pull from. .
Any scrutiny into ANY president who has been elected in the modern era would most likely show a similar result. My issue with this is why didn't it start right after he left office?
