Now this is why I love your channel so much since almost day one! Sailing to beautiful spots, having fun and visiting nice villages, castles etc. Have good winds and weather and enjoy!
I saw Fair Isle anchored in Leros last week. Unfortunately no time to meet you both. I agree with you, Leros is a wonderful island, we thoroughly enjoyed it.
Hello Steve and Judy, guess where we are? Sitting in the Port of Agia Marina, Leros. We just went to the same castle today!!! It's quite impressive. The views are stunning. Tonight we enjoyed a cup of dark chocolate Gelato with tangerine sorbet. Just super. Cool video, good stuff.
Cool! We anchored in the bay to the South on the other side which is really nice, if the wind comes back from the North then you could nip around. They have a very good cocktail bar! It’s the one with blue & green lights under the umbrellas. Also if you’re going around the Western side drop in on fellow Patron John with the Kraken, he’s in Leros marina doing a few jobs, although going back to the States soon I think.
Thank you Sailing Fair Isle. Your video content and editing is amazing! The 360 cam and drone footage! Awesome! Looking forward to your updates on ECOFLOW!
Another awesome video from one of my favorite cruisers! Thank you for sharing your travels, especially at a time when the two of you have your health and ability to enjoy Fair Isle....your dedication and zeal for life brings the excitement to those of us who are unable to travel.
Yo will love Amorgos. I think it’s one of the most intriguing islands in the Cyclades because it’s not such a tourists’ place. And the Monastery is a real breathtaking place!
Last time I checked there was at least one full time working windmill in Olympos village on the northern part of Karpathos island between Rhodes and Crete. Anchor or dock in Diafani and take the local bus up to Olympos. This traditional village, one of the latest to gain road access and electricity supply on the Greek islands, is well worth a visit regardless. You can still see older ladies in traditional attire. Magnificently scaring views of sheer cliff drops to the open sea on the west side of the village.
I visited a 200 year old working windmill in Ouddorp (South Holland) the other day with my sister who was here on a working hol. I bought some of the flower they were producing, one variety of dozens available. “You can’t keep a good windmill shut down” here in the Netherlands. The oldest one that I have seen so far is 300 years old, that is a building that has been a working machine for 300 years. Fabulous.
Whenever you anchor I'm always impressed by the quality of your chain, German if memory serves me. A lot of people seem content with a rusty mess going in the water.
freezer - cooling - eutectic ??? or quasi eutectic by keeping freezer full of frozen bottles etc or even ice to increase thermal mass - did this in the caravan to reduce cycling, also Fair Isle sailed great and is very sea kindly - As YT Captain Q would would say she is a moosha not a smasher ( mod flat entry hulls) - another great vlog - hmmm realised not a sub ?? thought I was but am now
Hi Judy and Steve, you are currently in that little bay in the west of Paros, I believe and you should visit the "Blue Lagoon" called little islands just west of it. Turquoise water, just less than 2 meters deep in the very center ... a quite nice place for snorkeling and paddle boarding ... Are you heading further west to Milos or so? You must see Kleftiko then ... I will be there with my wife and friends on a 3 week charter turn starting next week Sunday. I've been following your great adventure and particularily your tech-tips for quite some time now and would very much enjoy crossing path with Fair Isles ... Have a safe and enjoyable trip! Kay, Cologne, Germany
We are actually in Sifnos tonight and unfortunately won’t have time to go South to Milos. We have to get through the Corinth canal and start heading North in the Ionian so need to keep all the North we can in the Aegean, you know what it’s like with the Meltemi! Hope to see you out here sometime but I think we will just miss this time.
You two are clearly happy together and in love. I love to see this you’re wonderful people and very clever at videography and presentation. Thank you for taking us along and well done xx
Beautiful locations, nicely filmed ! Can you make any 3d material available pls ? I'd love to experience some of the scenes in each episode with my occulus quest headset. Might already be possible using an ftp directory with your exisitng ISP subscription, free dropbox or through patreon ? Glad the girls had a good time, my adult kids wont go near a boat. Interesting discussion of solar vs genset charging (costs, space, weight).
I’m intrigued by your new generator teaser. Will you be doing a tech video on this? I’d be interested to see an update on your lithium experience also, has the system lived up to your expectations? Paul
The answer is yes to all of those questions! Tech video should be out in a week or two when we’ve done some testing. You can Google EcoFlow though if you’re really curious. I think someone in charge there must own a boat as they’re coming up with some really good options, we are looking at getting their portable air conditioner as well, these things all link up, really smart all DC system
Hello to you both,a great film, with good sailing and excellent views.Thank you very much ..My older eyes did not notice any discolouration it was thoroughly enjoyable.cheers Roly🇬🇧.PS did you manage to repair your hull chafing rail?
Hi. Great video. Loved seeing your daughter and friend. What a great way for them to vacation. I have a question. You have solar and installed Lithium batteries so I’m confused on why you all are still struggling with power and needing other sources? Thanks!
We simply don’t have enough solar for our needs. We use a lot of power with our computer equipment, water maker fridge freezer etc…We will make sure all our devices work efficiently (which is not always the case now) but still when we have a few days of cloud we don’t get enough power. The generator is back up for us but an important back up.
No we don't. I don't think it's a good thing necessarily to air condition the whole boat as you tend to hid inside and fail to get acclimatised to hot weather. I would be nice however to be able to cool down the sleeping cabin at night so we are looking into a portable unit that Ecoflow are bringing out shortly that looks like it might fit that role nicely.
Good video, production but you seem to be having problems with you colour balance. It tends to be too warm and yellowish turning to greenish in some scenes. Leros is nice and in fact it is a very good spot for overwintering. Are you aware of its recent (WWI and WWII) history?
Yes my latest GoPro's gone rouge, keeps jumping out of the flat mode and applying 'baked in' Go pro looks which are hard to balance in post. I'm switching over to Insta360's for the action cam footage now as I've had it with glitchy GoPro's. And yes we had a very interesting talk by the curator of the museum in Leros castle, he was very funny, didn't like Italians at all! We didn't get time to visit the war museum on the other side of the island though.
9:06 Did she say 5 metres depth and you let out 40 metres of rode? Curious as to why so much? Also, those look like great glasses for sailing, what brand are they?
@@harbourdogNL yes they’re Ray Bans, they are polarising so good for seeing the sea bottom as they stop reflections. The depth by the way is the depth under the keel, so 5 metres = 7m to the water line and 8m to the roller. I want a 5/1 scope so 5x8=40
@@svfairisle Aha, thank you for the explanation re: the rode. And those RayBans look ideal for on the water, with those 'wrap around' sides. I thoroughly enjoy your channel, it's making me think I should look for a crew position in Turkey for a few weeks this winter!
Why aren't boaters using small Honda generators??? They are quiet, light, reliable, portable, efficient and very cheap. They come in a bunch of different sizes etc. Why are you guys spending thousands and thousands on some fancy marine stuff?
Leros is where the mental asylum is and is how they used to describe people with mental health issues. Also there is no ‘c’ in Greek - a more accurate pronounciation of Kyklades is kick lah days ;) Love your vlogs ♥️🌹♥️ :)

Is there a tax payable for sailing in Greek waters....
Yes it's called the Tepai
Payable for at least a month in advance. Monthly rates based on boat length.
