Kevin Curren had been a lion in this tournament until he met Boris Becker. in the previous rounds, he had cleared Stefan Edberg, John McEnroe and Jimmy Connors, straight sets each. Before the final, he had given away only ONE set - second round, DePalmer. But on that day, Boris Becker was in another league.
THE "ONE MAN TANK-DIVISION" WAS ONE OF MANY ENGLISH "YELLOW PRESS" "NAMES" FOR THE "GERMAN WUNDERKIND" BORIS AT THAT TIME ! HIS POWER WAS BRUTAL AND FASCINATING... I SAW THE MATCH LIVE, WOW WOW WOOOW ! BIG BRAVO FOR BORIS ! MY HERO WAS BIG MAC... ANYWAY, RESPECT FOR BORIS !
Curren blatantly outclassed by young Boris. Big serve took him far in 1985 and earned him a lot of tiebreaks, but a 17 year old already had a deeper and more polished game than his.
Well, Connors and Mcenroes perfomance vs Curren was not exactly polished either -they were never close to a set! Becker was brilliant, simply amazing talent. 17 years old and no fear in a final. Curren felt the pressure a bit I think. He had lost a final in AO (with a wooden racket!) in 84 . This was history(a legend in the making as Connors and Borg in 74 and Mcenroe 78/79.

Haha...mine is a similar story. But my first tennis match was the 1986 Wimbledon Final against the Great Ivan Lendle.

In 1990, Becker was down 2 sets but came back to tie it only to lose in the 5th set against Stefan Edberg.
He later admitted he had been prescribed sleeping pills by some stupid doctor. That's why he lost concentration in that match.
I guess the biggest disappointment for Boris. Additionally because he was on the road to win in the 5th set.
