I like coco coir, in the past the worms seem to compost it faster than they do a bunch of cardboard/paper/and leaves. I usually buy the aqua culture coir, it was made for us with pets and didn't have any salt in it. But a few months ago my local stores stopped carrying it.
The bricks of coconut coir look pretty neat as they are absorbing water. You definitely found a recipe for growing red wigglers and cocoons 🪱🪱😁
That stuff definitely breaks up a lot easier and soap supporter a lot more easier than the peat moss that’s for sure😅

I don't dress up but my husband does and he takes our grandbaby girl out and they have so much fun . This year she wants to be a cheerleader and Pa Pa be a Zombie . Funny how a 7 year old can get you to do all kinds of silly things . Sometimes I think I have two 7 year old children in the house . LOL

I forgot to mention this besides the worms working through it faster than I have seen them go through cardboard and paper, as you said it absorbs water REALLY well, and because if that is great for wicking moisture away from its source or where its concentrated. I use a diy stacking system made out of 5gal buckets. I never needed to add water to the buckets as the fluid created by the decomposing foods was always being diffused from the top of the stack downward. With hydrophobic mediums or slower absorbing materials I have noticed that moisture does not disperse as well or as evenly.

How long was this after the rescue of the sour bin? The worms look great and have definitely multiplied!
Not very long I would say about a-little over a month. You see when there’s less quantity in your bin according to your measurements they gone nuts and reproducing. With the proper moisture and food they absolutely love it.
I love coco coir as we can’t get peat moss in the uk. And it’s the closest we can get in uk. And when it’s on sale I buy a stock load. Think I have enough for 100L or there abouts.

You can up the price for the blues because people don't want them when there is a pref and they are a pain removing out of stock
Took me years to remove the blues from my stock/herd. It was a pain
I started raising European Nightcrawler and I put agricultural line in them with no additive in the line is Dolomite line better I seen were agricultural line well lower the pH what's your opinion I appreciate it trying hard to start raising some and I mix me up some warm food made out of chicken laying Mash crack corn wild bird seeds and some other put them in a blender and made a powder they eat it up fast thanks for your videos I really enjoy them
Yes I use dolomite lime, I tried agricultural lime and I don’t know why but it’s different. Doesn’t do as well in my bins. your worm chow sounds perfect. Make sure you grind it well because when I add birdseed and I don’t grind it well a forest grows in the bin🤣

Love your easy Paintbrush method ! It is Easy...... don't have to Construct. I am looking for this type of a tool / method. I have seen shifters that are motorized......... not something I can construct easily.
We came up with that vibrating motor/sifter because professional sisters are very expensive. I love doing the brush method

Will you be able to collect the casting from that bin? How long will it take them to need to be removed and put into a fresh bin? How do you know when it is time to collect the castings?
I can let the bin dry out a little bit and sift it with my motorize sifter or I can do it by hand. My last video or my next video coming up I am showing how to do that. When I have breeders and I’ve been like this that are adults I remove them at 21 days. I know when it’s time to collect the castings because the castings look like ground up coffee. With experience you’ll learn to notice what it looks like. When I feed dry leaves that have been soaked the castings are the darkest I’ve ever had

Quick question, if you had only 2000 worms, would you keep them all together or split them up in 2 ( or even 4) bins if you wanted more / faster breeding?

@@rogerpotts8453 grow store is a shop that usually caters to the cannabis industry. It has all the same stuff as a nursery. Pots, soil, nutrients and tools. I find they have good customer service and will order what you need. I even find my bonsai soil components there. There are apparently many cross over needs between orchids bonsai and cannabis. If it is not legal in Tx it won't help you.

Not very long maybe 10-15 minutes. It depends because I usually stop in between to change my UA-cam videos. I watch videos from everyone I am subscribed to and trust me it is a lot😄

Are blue worms blue? How do you know the difference?
Blue worms are not blue. Their Clitellum is flat to the body and further away from the head. Also, their behavior is kind of erratic a little crazy. 😂

I have never used a plastic covering. What do you like about it? I like coir, but I have a truck load of leaf mold I am going to try.
I always use a plastic covering because it helps to keep the moisture inside. I love leaf mold for worms they absolutely go crazy for it

Blue worms have a thinner head, the clitellum is flat. Their behavior can be challenging.

Confused on grow out vs nursery. Isn't it the same thing?
There are two ways of doing this. The nursery is where the adults worm live and have cocoons. When I sift out the castings from the nursery the cocoons and babies fall in the gray tubs. That’s how girls on the grow out shelf to grow up mature and fatten and ready for sale.
Another way people do it is they put a small amount of adult worms in the gray bins. Three weeks later they sift out the cocoons and put them in another Gray been to hatch and grow up. So it depends what is easier for you to do and what you like to do
I see a big difference between the way you raise worms and the way I do.
First off, I use a tower system, but what I'm referring to is, when I take the lid off the top bin, which is the dining hall level, the worms are all up on top and scatter like cockroaches and are all gone within about 8 to 10 seconds. Yours just lay there and sunbathe. I guess maybe yours are used to more light than mine.
Maybe when I lift the lid off my worm tower they also scatter

I think I hear that at least three times a day from different people. My pure red wigglers are coming back in the fall. Stay tuned. Blue worms can be a challenge. Some popular worm farmers just can’t get rid of them at this point, so they just sell them.

Yes someone left my back door open in a couple of flying little things got in. Plus I left an overripe banana on my cart with the water machine and I have a couple of fruit flies. My little dog hates the sound. Every time it pops she runs😆

How did you get to the point of not having any blues in your bin? I'm thinking of starting to pick out the mature red wigglers I have from my mixed bin as I come across them to start a new one of just reds, but I'm not sure if that is the best way

@brendahellerman9537 I usually add a quarter of one of the dunks to a gallon of water. And I just keep refilling the gallon. The mosquito dunk will eventually disappear.

They are these little circles that they sell in the big box, stores, or Amazon. They are a natural bacteria that when you soak a piece of it in water that water prevents flying insects from hatching, and it also kills them. It is not harmful to Worms at all. This is what I used to control the flying insects in my worm room.

So jealous. In France (and countries around here) you can't buy Eisenia fetida. Every order they lied and sent me the hortensis.
If it was legal for me to send Worms, I would do it, but it is against the law. Hortensis are not bad they are European nightcrawlers. The fine to ship Worms out of the United States if caught is way over $10,000.

Overhere the problem is that breeders keep them on the dirt and/or feed manure. And so they mix and loose overhere from the Eh.
Trying finding some in the garden and keep separating ....who knows.
