This video proves the show made a huge mistake early on. Laurel should have been the mom of Mia. I've said this so many times but Emily (Felicity) was not hired for emotional scenes. She was hired for her quick comedic timing and her quirkiness. It's her bread and butter. But they stuck her in the role as the love interest and that killed all the good vibes her character had in season 1 and 2. Her scenes with Mia had 0 feeling to them.
Katy Cassidy (Laurel) on the other hand was hired originally to be the main love interest. Her scenes with Oliver in seasons 1 and 2 remain some of the most emotional scenes of the entire show. Her scenes of comforting Mia should have been mother and daughter scenes.

I disagree.. Emily has won the heart of the fans so the producers made her the love interest of Oliver & that was a good choice for me.
She’s an amazing actress & I loved every scenes she had with Mia (and William).
And I love Katy Cassidy, but Laurel was very boring as a character (until Laurel of earth 2).
But that’s my opinion & I totally respect yours!

@mariedits I think you are mistaking my words and the ratings kind of prove my point. The remaining fans as the seasons went on may have really liked Felicity, but the fan base shrunk each season and fans that left the show sited Olicity as one of the issues with the show. I like Emily, I loved her take on Felicity. The issue for me and many was she struggled heavily with deep scenes. Katy Cassidy did not have a boring character until they didn't know what to do with her. She got bounced around so much because they kept shifting her storyline. I liked Earth 2 laurel, you're right, her best character. I just need to remind you the show was at its best in seasons 1 and 2 and the big reason for that was that Laurel provided an emotional connection with Oliver that Olicity would struggle for 6 remaining seasons to achieve.

@mariedits I would also love to point out that for me, the introduction of Mia, saved the show in my eyes. This girl did what laurel did, gave us emotional scenes that hit hard and didn't fall flat. I loved the scenes with Mia fighting to keep Oliver alive. The scenes of her wanting to protect him from dying just killed me. Gave me feels I hadn't gotten from this show since season 3

@@ryanabate1981 I totally understand your point, I just have another opinion… The fact that they took Emily to remplace Katy as the main love interest proves that Stephen & Katy had no chemistry at all. On the other hand, Stephen & Emily have a great chemistry through the seasons. Olicity IS the heart of the show. And I agree that season 1 & 2 were the best ones but bc of the plot not bc of Laurel & Oliver.
Also, I think Emily did great with deep scenes.
Again, you have your opinion & I have mine, I think we can respect each other arguments.
We just don’t feel the same way.

@mariedits I'll just make 1 last point. I think your focusing on fan reactions more than facts. Sure the fan base that remained loved Olicity. They were the heart of the show, I don't deny that. But they are also the reason the fan base became so small. Oliver and Laurel were the reason many fans who stopped watching had liked the show early on. Analytics don't lie. The popularity of the show shrunk as a small group of very outspoken fans were given their wish. The creators made a mistake, they thought the outspoken fans represented the majority, they were wrong and tried very hard to walk it back in seasons 4 and 5. But by then, the only fans that remained were Olicity shippers so they had to jump it back. I agree, they were the heart of the show that remained, but if they never happened at all, the show we got would have been so much better
