We didn't even consider the possibility of wind being a big factor on the paddle. Being used to linear courses, usually all teams have similar conditions. After talking with TJ79/silent chaser, they strategically chose to do the long paddle first because one of their teammates frequency raced with a rowing coach and knew from daily experience that wind would be low in the morning before picking up. Interestingly to me, the wind was blowing south to north. I'm used to winds out of the west, so not knowing Wisconsin weather patterns, even if I had considered wind as a factor I would probability have considered getting the western CPs last so we could use a wind at our backs to cruise to HQ when we were tired at the end of the leg. In hindsight, even that plan would not have worked with the south to north blowing wind.
